2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

IDK, the Jazz can't get hit on every fringe prospect.

I agree... I'm not saying DL should have gotten Morris... just saying it's a not funny coincidence. Maybe we like something about their program or it may just be coincidence we ended up with Niang and Long.

I agree you can't look back at drafts like some on this board and say we could have picked xyz prospects because they were drafted after we picked.

Gallo and Jabari have, essentially, the same contract, other than Gallo's is guaranteed for next year. In that sense, I don't see any more for Jabari as a move for Gallo would come first, and be much more likely to happen for Favors straight across, rather than Chicago wanting something besides expirings.

Trade Exum and Thabo to San Antonio for Mills and Bertans to help Pop beat the league without threes.

Hot take... if Gallo is healthy he helps us more than OP Jr., Niko Mirotic, and maybe Khris Middleton. And his contract is a better value than what those guys get next year.... but you can't ignore injury and that is the only reason I think Clips would trade him mid-season.

Gallo was also one of the names mentioned when Hayward was boning us... the front office had interest... not sure if the feeling was mutual.

Gallo shooting 47% on catch and shoot 3s... gets to the FT line almost 7 times per 36 and shoots 92% when there. TS% of 62% (Rudy is 67.5% for reference).

He also had this quote after hitting clutch free throws "free throws are such a mental game and it's just you and the basket. I have a great relationship with the basket on the free throw line and so we kept the relationship going"

I'm in!

I've always liked the idea of Gallo, and he would help us if he stayed healthy. If we don't make a major move before the deadline and we strike out on our primary free agent targets, I would be very interested in trading for him if the Clippers sell him to open up cap space.

Over the past 4-5 hours I’ve totally turned over to the Gallo side. I’ve always been pretty lukewarm on him, but let’s heat this stuff up! He’s a good now and later move. Just dust off those Exum trades and get him TF out of here.

@Saint Cy of JFC and I rehashed his (Gallo) injury history a while back... and I think I came to the conclusion that he's not as injury prone as you'd think. Last year he tried to come back to early from the glute injury then broke his hand. His knee injury cost him a year in Denver, but they botched the surgery so it cost him a lot of the following year. So it's really one injury.

Also, maybe he can help our other guys develop a relationship with the rim.

Alright, so follow-up any Gallo trade with the following:

- To NOP for Solomon Hill and 2 second rounders, or 1 second rounder, or just Solomon Hill.
- To Detroit for Ish Smith.
- To Brooklyn for Jared Dudley.
- To Atlanta for Jeremy Lin.
- To Atlanta with TB and Tomic for Dewayne Dedmon and Vince Carter.

Ok... so do two moves. Send Exum to Atlanta for Deadmon and Carter, +/- Bradley, and trade Favors +/- Bradley to LAC for Gallo and Beverley.

Rubio / Beverley / Neto
Mitchell / Carter / Allen
Ingles / Korver / O'Neale
Gallo / Crowder / Thabo
Gobert / Deadmon / Udoh

Exum deals... Assuming we want to move him for expiring salary. All of these deals assume that the acquirer think Exum has some potential/upside and just needs a different opportunity.

1- Atlanta - this makes the most sense. They believe in their development program... they have lots of space and can't take on enough salary dumps to fill all that space. I would hope to send Exum and TB (or just Exum) for Lin. I am not sure if they would require a different sweetner. I'm not sending a first, but I'd be willing to send a second... and the draft rights to Ante Tomic are all their if the want them. It might save them some money this year. They are above the salary floor this year, but next year may struggle to find good use of their space up to the floor. Getting him now would mean the development staff get an offseason to work with him.

2- Cleveland - Our old business partners. In the Delly-Henson/Hill deal they took on serious salary... for a pretty mediocre first (lots of protections and a few years into the future). They have been willing to eat salary for draft compensation. So we send Dante/Thabo and a second for JR Smith... who has a contract next year that is only $4M guaranteed. This would have to involve a 3rd team imo... but in its simplest form we could waive and stretch his salary for next year. If we were to waive him he may also reduce this year and next year's guarantee to pick his destination... so maybe he knocks a couple million off the guarantee for next year. I'm not sure on the waive and stretch rules if you buy a guy out or release him... there are some three team deals I think could work. (like maybe the clips and Gallo)

3- Chicago... if they just want to be done with Jabari and are willing to add some salary next year to do it. They might like Exum... although Dunn is a better version of Dante imo. Salary matching is tough... would likely be Exum/Thabo/TB. I highly doubt Chicago has any interest.

There are some others where we could take back more useful players that have contracts and there are some that I think we'd have to be pretty desperate to do.

I don't think management is looking to move him or dump his contract though.

Just to get @infection fired up...

Utah sends Dante, Favs, TB
Utah gets: Gallo and Beverly

Cleveland sends JR Smith
Cleveland gets Dante and TB

Clips send Gallo and Beverly
Clips get Smith and Favs (they can waive and stretch Smith and it's a cap hit of 1.3M) So saves them $20M or so next year.

We'd have to send draft compensation, maybe even a heavily protected first that converts to two seconds, to Clips in this scenario, but I think Cleveland gets a fair deal.

I like it. Wouldn't most Jazz fans revolt if we traded beloved Favors AND we took on Gallinari's $20 million for next year?

There would be many discussions about how old he is.

You're a moron. Exum oozes potential and you'll see that when someone else holds his hand out there on the floor.

The same way I got Niang signed and Bolomboy cut... I have to declare it loud enough for Jazz executives to hear it at a game (summer league is preferable... but no time for that).

Gonna be hard to yell "Exum sucks... we should trade him for... (yada yada the trade details)" Maybe I make a poster and hold it up during the game with the phrase "It works in the trade machine"

Yes. When do the Jazz play in Sac/GS next?

For the Hardaway peeps

https://nypost.com/2018/12/19/knicks-come-clean-on-dreaded-tim-hardaway-diagnosis/

Tim Hardaway Jr. has been playing with the dreaded plantar fasciitis in his right foot, a chronic heel ailment that could affect him the rest of the season, according to Knicks coach David Fizdale.

A slumping Hardaway will return to the lineup Wednesday, when the Knicks visit the Sixers after sitting out one game against the Suns with the sore heel. But this has been going on for more than a month.

“Plantar fasciitis is nagging,” Fizdale said at Wednesday’s morning shootaround at Wells Fargo Center. “Some days it aches so bad, you can’t move on it. Other days you can tolerate. He’s trying to manage it.”
