2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

I think we are saying the same thing but in different ways.

I don't know if he is available now. If you are the Clippers, why would you trade a guy now when you might not have a guy to replace him? It would be like trading Favors for an expiring. Why would we do that when Favors might be the best thing we can keep this summer? If the Clippers had a record between ours and Phoenix, I could see it being more realistic.

The reason I think it could happen this summer is because I think the Clippers will break the bank to keep Tobias and also lure one other big player (or at least sign them to an offer sheet). At that point, the Clippers would need to trade Gallinari which is where we could be the beneficiary if we strike out elsewhere. If they don't get another, they keep Gallinari.

They have enough space (or can easily get there) to keep Gallo, Tobias' caphold, and sign Kawhi. The reason the move Gallo now is to try to get 2 big free agents... which has been their goal.

The other issue is injury risk... if the guy gets hurt it will be tough to move him... to try and get all that done in a short timeframe is too much work.

So if they are dead *** serious about 2 big free agents they will move Gallo for expiring contracts this season. To us or someone else.

We should be looking for market inefficiencies. Many teams are loading up for FA and there are a limited pool of players. So there are a few teams offloading contracts of terrible players and giving draft picks as comp.. to teams that don't want good players. How many teams are wanting to add good players on contracts that extend beyond this year? How many teams have expiring contracts to facilitate deals?

I think that is where we get the most value... good (but maybe flawed or just not all-stars) players on longer deals. I'd try to get at least one... and play with the leftover cap space if you really want to.

I wonder what it would take to get Gallo? Does just expiring's get it done? I really like him and think he'd be a great fit but I'm not sure I'd want to include a 1st round pick in order to get him.

Probably expirings but what would be awesome is if they saw Exum as their third Star.

I think straight expirings is close. Maybe Favs and Crowder... or expirings and a second. Outside of Sacramento I can't think of a team that would want good players on longer contracts and would offer salary relief. Favs is a pretty significant upgrade over Gortat for them.

He might see him as a third star... for their G League team.

I'd definitely do it for expirings and a second. I'd probably do it for Favors and Crowder too, although with Gallo's injury history I'm not sure I'd want to give up Crowder. Maybe they'd take Favors and Thabo?

I'd be curious to know the asking price. I doubt they'd get a first and expirings... so it really just depends on if they really want to move him. If they do Favs helps them now... Thabo could too... and a second is pretty good to keep flexibility.

All this trade talk, bringing up mediocre players that would not put us over the hump. The jazz need to figure out what their identity is. Is it a defensive or offensive minded team. I feel like we hover in the middle. You want to make our offense better than we need to shoot for a 3. Won’t be a popular idea, but let’s dangle Gobert out there for Anthony Davis. Our defense will suffer a bit. But our offense will be much better. Are we trying to win and keep up with the super teams or are we just trying to stay relevant? Sale tickets? And make the fans of this board happy for a while?

I like it. Wouldn't most Jazz fans revolt if we traded beloved Favors AND we took on Gallinari's $20 million for next year?

Unlike so many other proposed players, Gallinari is not very far behind Favors in productivity.
