2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

Yeah I didn't take a real in depth look at the numbers, but the Knicks do project to have a ton of cap space in the offseason and if they could get off Hardaway Jr + Lee's money and get a John Wall there instead they might still have the space to make another signing. Would have to check the numbers.

They have space, but even if the renounce everyone and land with pick #5 they still don't have max space until they waive and stretch Lee or move one of Lee or Tim Hardaway Jr.

If they waive and stretch Lee they are close to the KD max, but it is $38M... they certainly can get to max space, but not there yet... which is why I don't buy they would really consider Wall.

They still have some cap clearing to do if they want to be a big player in FA. If they land the #1 pick that'd be great, but those high picks come with good sized cap holds.. almost $10M for #1.

Good info, thanks mate. I tried them trading Lee/Hardaway for Wall and even then the money is a bit too much between all of their contracts/Noah's dead money/1st round pick money/Porzingis' cap hold.

There's potential in the offseason though for a deal after they sign a FA potentially. I think Hardaway/Lee/Thomas pretty much gets them there, might have to throw in Trier or someone too

Not a trade but just worth mentioning that former nr. 1 pick is tearing up the G league now. I hope he can get another crack at NBA. Shooting 3's at this absurd percentage may be worth giving him a shot?

Anything that we can do to try to help the scoring output on the team is worth a shot. Low risk/High reward type of move on the cheap too.

Since we’re talking about the Knicks and cap space:

How does Porzingis fit into all of this? The Spurs are ‘looking to pursue him in free agency’ which tells me there’s any doubt that they retain him.

I don’t think there’s a more perfect fit for this team given it’s needs at this point (legit perimeter threat that is also a legit 4 and is a permanent mismatch, highly productive, protects the rim, can play backup 5).

This team plugging in Zingis would be absolutely ****ing legit.

Wow.

He's been over 40% for a few years. Shooting seems legit... defense, desire, and other stuff was always an issue there too, but dude may have grown up a bit. 26 years old... IDK if we had a roster spot I'd take a shot.

Too lazy to dig up the offseason wishlist thread, but I'm kinda pissy that the Cavs took such a huge salary dump for such a mediocre 1st from Milwaukee. Their salary situation will allow them to retain Brogdon, Middleton, and very likely Bledsoe if they want. They may lose Lopez because they don't have full bird rights on him (if capulator is correct). I think we'd have to go almost full max on Malcolm to get him and even then they may just match because they are in keep Giannis happy mode. If Cavs hadn't solved all their tax issues it would be a real question if they'd match $20ish M a year.

That was a weird article... seemed to be like FA in 4-5 years... not current year. Knicks will match whatever offer he gets... trade him later if need be. Not an option at all... could do a 4 year max with player option in Year 3 and make him a FA a year earlier maybe, but they still match.

There's a lot of guys in the G-League shooting similar percentages with better overall stats. It's not as absurd as it looks.

Curious if the Jazz try to pull off something given the PG situation at present.
Doubt it unless Neto goes down. I figure Exum will be back in two weeks at the most. They’ll just treat DM and Neto the way they do Gobert and Gavors at the 4-5 positions.
We have the most 20+ point victories in the league. 9 I believe.

And we’re sub .500.

That’s probably because some times they look like the best shooting team in the league. Some they look like the worst shooting team and sometimes it’s both in the same game. Lol.
