2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

The numbers suggest the opposite is true... he's more effective/efficient as a starter throughout his career... his usage rate goes down, but TS% and other numbers go up.

That's doesnt prove or disprove anything I said.

High fatigue games = 2nd game of a back to back, 3rd game in 4 days, those types of things. I just went off memory, so I could be wrong, but that's the number you would have to find to disprove what I said about Jae.

They have one, his name is Georges Niang. He shot 53% from 3 last season for the Stars.

They also have Cavanaugh, who has shot 45% and 43% from 3 in the G-League.

These guys arent rare in the G-League and it doesnt translate to being a useful player if that's all you can do.
None of them was a former NBA draft pick nr.1. Bennet obviously has a bit more to offer.

I went through and looked at Jae's 2nd game of a B2B and 3rd game in 4 days stats... (11 games from what I saw, correct me if I'm wrong)

FG%: 40% (40/101)
3pt%: 29% (17/59)

So that means Crowder shoots 44% from 3 in games that arent a B2B or 3rd game in 4 days. Small sample size, but it agrees with my eye test assessment of Crowder. He seems to struggle physically more than your average player, on both ends of the court, under high fatigue games.

I would guess if I could get more in depth data (which I probably could, but it'd be a huge time sink), I'm guessing Crowder's above the break 3 really tanks in those games.

No he doesnt. Just cause some ****-house franchise took him #1 doesnt mean anything. Niang is the better player by a country mile.

His TS% drops on B2B, but the original point of he can't play starters minutes or log more minutes because he will wear down isn't validated by how he performs in high fatigue situations... where almost all players are worse. Sit him on the back half of a B2B if you really need to.

The more minutes he plays the better he has been during his career... as a starter he's better. Last year is tough to measure because he was admittedly out of shape. this year in 7 games he shoots 28% from 3 on back to backs... his season average is 34%. The team as a whole shoots 29% on back end of back to backs vs. 34.58% on average... so Jae definitely isn't great in those situations... just like everyone else.

Since we’re talking about the Knicks and cap space:

How does Porzingis fit into all of this? The Spurs are ‘looking to pursue him in free agency’ which tells me there’s any doubt that they retain him.

I don’t think there’s a more perfect fit for this team given it’s needs at this point (legit perimeter threat that is also a legit 4 and is a permanent mismatch, highly productive, protects the rim, can play backup 5).

This team plugging in Zingis would be absolutely ****ing legit.

Not a trade target, but I think I'm 100% in on Malcolm Brogdon. They might match any offer... but I think I'd go all the way up to his max... which is a little bananas, but I did some digging after watching him.

After the 2015 draft, Locke said that the Jazz tried like hell to trade up for Porzingis and that he was #1 on their board. I think he said Phil Jackson wanted Hayward and Gobert, which was essentially him saying "kick rocks." After the 2016 draft, he said the Jazz tried to trade back into the first round to draft Brogdon. And he has said in the past to look for the Jazz to acquire players that they had interest in in the past (which is pretty common sense) so I'm sure the Jazz are interested in both. I don't think Porzingis is gettable, and I'm not really sure how he and Gobert would work defensively together, but Brogdon might be if Utah offers a ridiculous contract. Wouldn't be surprised if Milwaukee matches since they're going all in on Giannis and they have the new arena and everything.

Your implication wasn’t about B2B’s and so forth. It was about playing heavy minutes.

Also, Joe and Ricky fall off on B2Bs too... Rudy is worse but not a ton... it's just hard playing basketball two nights in a row. Doesn't mean those dudes should not start or play starter's minutes.

He's markedly worse by a huge margin. It would only get worse with more minutes. He isn't a starter.

We can at least leverage our cap space to give them some heartache. Offer max to Middleton... if he goes back they had to pay full price... offer max or Malcolm and if they match it likely mean no Bledsoe. 4/100-115M is so much damn money and if they think Donte can give them some of what Malcolm does and they think Bledsoe can be retained at a more reasonable price I could see them passing potentially... add in a trade kicker and make it a little poisonous. This is why FA sucks unless you get Lebron or KD... not a ton of value for small markets on non-superstar high demand talent.

The numbers don't back this at all and tell an opposite story, but whatever you want to believe.

I don't know if this has been discussed, but it might be a good idea to grab Jeremy Lin. He's playing really well in limited minutes, and the Hawks have no reason to keep him.
I was for it prior to Exum's recent play, I still think next year if the team decides not to pay Rubio that Lin would be a great backup option for Exum/excellent 6th man

Yeah I wanted Lin as an option couple years back. Although he gets injured like a mofo

Lin is better than Exum. If we get Lin and let Ricky go Lin should be starting.
