I think Favors is worth keeping so long as he is happy in the role, plays hard and keeps improving.
This is a very good post.
Much of the July 1 sales pitch to Favors was his role in the offense and keeping him happy: https://www.nba.com/jazz/news/derrick-favors-free-agency-recap
"During that meeting, forward and front office had a “real conversation” about his role with the team.
“We put a lot of things on the table,” Favors said.
Last season, Favors saw a change in his role on offense, and that resulted in fewer points, touches and crunch-time minutes than he expected.
“There’s probably nobody that sacrificed his own personal game and stats more than Fav,” Lindsey said.
A key part of Favors’ July 1 discussion centered on how to get more involved in the offense next season—and he left the meeting satisfied with what he’d heard."
43 games into the season, Favors is playing 4.5 minutes less per game. He is also averaging less points, shot attempts and rebounds than last season. If you take away his injury plagued 2016-17 season, he is posting some of his worst numbers since he was 21 years old.
We all know Favors is a really good player and could do great things if given a starting spot somewhere. Maybe we send him to that type of situation before the deadline if that's something that makes him happy.
