What's new

We all love Favors, but...

What do you guys think about Blake Griffin’s availability? If they keep losing, could the Pistons hit reset? Is Blake worth the gamble/assets? A healthy and focused Blake fits really well, imo.

You'd be locked into a couple year window of trying to win with a trio of Mitch/Griffin/Gobert. I wouldn't, especially if it required giving up contributors instead of just taking on Blake's deal.

I mentioned this before, but I think Blake would be awesome here.

What about a deal centered around Exum and Favors?

The contract is such a beast. I'd feel more comfortable shooting our shot in FA or getting quality, possibly not max-level players and win with depth and system. I think Blake has reinvented himself in a very productive way but the injury history is still relevant as well. Essentially a risk I don't think the Jazz necessarily need to take.

I like the idea of Griffin but I'm in no rush to go grab him if I'm the Jazz. He's already declined pretty significantly athletically and he's not even into his 30s yet, that long term deal could really hurt the Jazz in the last year or two if his shooting falls off as well, since he's never been a great defender.

Griffin in place of Favors makes us a contender. It's that simple. I don't like his contract and his injury history concerns me, but a healthy Griffin is an absolute beast who would do well in our offense.

Griffin is arguably having his carrer best season.

I would trade for Blake in a second. I think the more ground bound version of Blake will be better able to stay on the court. Would provide the shooting big and additional playmaking we want. Not sure he'd love Utah, but it is closer to LA than Detroit. His contract is massive, but if we take on a behemoth contract I want it for a guy that is a superstar when he is right (unlike Conley, Love, etc who are borderline all stars).

He's declined in athletic explosiveness, but he's made changes to his game that will allow him to have more sustained success.

I think Griffin would be fully engaged with the Jazz where they have a chance to be contenders. I'm not sure he is with the Pistons, at least not on a nightly basis. I also believe he'd make us a contender but we still need a piece or two to go with what would be our big 3.

Griffin has a ceiling to his nightly offensive output that no one else on the roster really has outside of DM. He's putting up an efficient 25 a night and gets 5 assists on top of it. Very few one player addtions that I think make us a contender... Swapping Favs for Blake does that I think.

If they are really going to blow it up (I doubt they do)... if you could snake Bullock in the deal too that'd be wonderful. I'd put up Exum and a couple firsts (and the requisite expiring salary) for Blake and Bullock.

I'm not trying to suggest Blake couldn't work here, but the first question I have is whether he could fit in the team offense well. He seems to get many of his stats when he gets the ball, slows down, maybe draws a double team, and surveys the floor before making a move/pass.

It would be great to have someone else who demands a double team and can create for himself/teammates. But I worry (more than with Kevin Love, even though I think Blake would probably be the better play if both were available) that you lose some of the eye-popping ball movement with Blake that we sometimes are able to achieve in our best moments.

Since we already have Donovan and Rudy under contract long-term I think that Blake would be a gamble worth taking assuming he was actually available to be traded for and was fully on board to the idea of playing for the Jazz. He would be a GREAT fit next to Rudy. Their games compliment each other well.

Donovan, Rudy and Blake is a mighty scary trio. If we kept most of our supporting cast in the deal we would be a contender.

Our offense has been mostly ***... so even when the ball is moving it ain’t great... offense is the last of my worries.

I’d worry his defense was bad and that it hurts us there and I’d worry he gets injured. Other than that Utah is better than Detroit so I’m sure he’d buy in... he’d be relevant again. He’s been one of the 10/15 best players in the league this year and you hear nothing about him.

Playing next to Rudy I don't worry about his defense. I don't think that it would hurt us much. It might be a small step back defensively as a team but our offense would be much better so overall it would definitely be an improvement. Only concerns I would have with Blake are injuries and whether or not he would buy in and give full effort.

Blake Griffin in theory yes yes x10. He’s become a terrific playmaking 4 who can hit the 3. It’s pretty much exactly what we need. Contract is crazy but to contend you’re gonna have to pay someone a hideous amount

I'm going to go ahead and put Blake in the category of... "This guy should be available but his mediocre team probably won't move him."

Yeah, Detroit is one of those teams who has to either trade picks to add to Blake or tear it all down. They could probably get expirings and picks for Blake, a pick for Bullock/Stanley, and maybe even get something for Drummond if they sent him somewhere like Charlotte.

Detroit should blow it up and tank. Instead, they'll probably trade something like a first for DSJr.

I'm not saying he's having a bad season, I'm saying that the contract scares me a little bit with his age and injury history. No different to KLove in my mind, if you can get either one of those guys and they're healthy for most of their contract then it's a no brainer but I think there's enough significant injury history for both of those guys where you really need to re-evaluate if the risk is worth the benefit of getting one of those guys.

I think Griffin deserves a ton of credit for being able to change his game to be much less reliant on his athleticism though, I wouldn't have thought that he would become a respectable 3pt shooter for example.
