Coin toss does matter and gives one team an advantage, so what!!? Both teams have a 50/50 chance to win it. If you lose the toss, so what. Go play football make a ****ing play.
Are you against another way besides a coin toss to determine who gets the ball first? No, that would be silly.
Football is tha ultimate team game. If the offense is great but defense is much worse than your opponent, there’s a good chance you lose. If both offense and defense is on point you most likely win. KC put NE in three 3rd and long situations in overtime, in all three occasions pats made a play and the defense didn’t. That’s the ballgame. Had the defense (one of three phases of the game) made a play Maholmes gets on the field. The offense made plays and kept Maholmes off the field. They made the plays necessary to win the game.
The cold hard fact is NE made more plays then KC.
They have absolutely the worst overtime period in sports. It’s ridiculous!! And the team that wins the coin toss in that still has the advantage as well.
Not just hell no but **** no!! I’m not stopping a game everytime a flag is thrown. NFL would become unwatchable

At least take out the rule where if you score the touchdown first the game's over. At least give the other team the same chance, if they can't level the score then the game's over. What are they going to do? Rock, paper, scissors?

I would prefer something that is both entertaining and of a competitive nature rather than boring and lucky. What are they going to do? Rock, paper, scissors?
I agree that would be better than a coin toss. Make it a reward in some way that was earned somehow. Not stupid luck and nothing more.I would prefer the home team to get the advantage in the overtime of playoffs rather than sheer luck of a coin flip. At least reward the team that has had the better season and earned home field advantage. At least there is a reason for it that you can justify.
Although personally I would rather see something similar to college overtime rules in the NFL playoffs.

That would work great. I would love that.I could get behind a combo of both here. Use college rules and the home team gets to decide if they get the ball first at the 25 (I think that’s where they start in college in OT) or play defense first from the 25.
Agreed. Great point about the kickers. Huge gap between college level and nfl level kickers.College OT is so much better than the pros and the drama is great.
That said, I would consider starting at the 30 instead of the 25, since pro kickers are so much better than college. Make them earn the TD a little more.
I said 50/50 chance to win the coin tossIf one team gets an advantage from the coin toss it's no longer a 50/50 chance (all else being equal).
Yes. Any other way could take too long, and cause too much injuryAre you against another way besides a coin toss to determine who gets the ball first?

College rules are the worst.
So you think paper rock scissors would take too long and cause injury? Interesting.Yes. Any other way could take too long, and cause too much injury
.
Yes... yes I am.You, sir, are an idiot.

Do you know how many seconds it takes to run 100 meters for these guys? About 10. The coin toss takes longer than that.
How long does it take a QB to throw a football? 2 seconds? Is that too long?
How about throwing darts? How long does that take? 5 seconds.
I don't see injuries happening in any of those circumstances.
Or how about giving the home team the ball first in OT? They were the better team in the regular season.
Funny thing is that if overtime possession was determined by a race or something right now and always had been and then I suggested that they do a coin toss instead you would think that is idiotic. Coin tossing has nothing to do with football, is not entertaining, and isn't competitive. No one would think it was a good idea if it weren't already being done.
Imagine pitching the coin toss idea. Dude it will be so awesome. A ref will flip a coin, players will stand around in a circle, and then the winner of the lucky coin toss will get an unearned advantage over their opponent! The fans will go wild for it. It will be so much fun
