What's new

2018-2019 NFL Season

The saints are the biggest little whiny bitches I’ve ever seen!! They actually want Roger Goodelle to actually reverse the outcome of the game. What a ****ing joke.

Coin toss does matter and gives one team an advantage, so what!!? Both teams have a 50/50 chance to win it. If you lose the toss, so what. Go play football make a ****ing play.

If one team gets an advantage from the coin toss it's no longer a 50/50 chance (all else being equal).

No, that would be silly.

Football is tha ultimate team game. If the offense is great but defense is much worse than your opponent, there’s a good chance you lose. If both offense and defense is on point you most likely win. KC put NE in three 3rd and long situations in overtime, in all three occasions pats made a play and the defense didn’t. That’s the ballgame. Had the defense (one of three phases of the game) made a play Maholmes gets on the field. The offense made plays and kept Maholmes off the field. They made the plays necessary to win the game.

The cold hard fact is NE made more plays then KC.

They have absolutely the worst overtime period in sports. It’s ridiculous!! And the team that wins the coin toss in that still has the advantage as well.

Not just hell no but **** no!! I’m not stopping a game everytime a flag is thrown. NFL would become unwatchable

Are you against another way besides a coin toss to determine who gets the ball first?

What are they going to do? Rock, paper, scissors?
At least take out the rule where if you score the touchdown first the game's over. At least give the other team the same chance, if they can't level the score then the game's over.

Is that too hard?

I would prefer the home team to get the advantage in the overtime of playoffs rather than sheer luck of a coin flip. At least reward the team that has had the better season and earned home field advantage. At least there is a reason for it that you can justify.

Although personally I would rather see something similar to college overtime rules in the NFL playoffs.

I would prefer something that is both entertaining and of a competitive nature rather than boring and lucky.

I gave some examples earlier in this thread. Use your imagination and come up with some. Anything is more entertaining and competitive than a coin being tossed into the air.

Some of my examples were:

Each team pick their fastest player and have them race. Winner gets the ball first. That would be entertaining, it would be easy to do and it could be done in like 30 seconds. I enjoy the 100 meter race in the Olympics. I'm certain I will enjoy that. Then the first possession is actually earned rather than given by luck.

Each team pick their strongest player and have them arm wrestle. I would love to watch that. Easy. Fast. Earned possession with someone other than luck. There could be injury concerns there though.

The head coach of each team compete in trivia. Like jeapordy or who wants to be a millionaire. I think that would be entertaining. Might be quite funny too. Possession would be earned rather than lucked into.

Field goal competition. Each kicker kicks field goals starting from 50 yarders and keep moving the ball a little farther away until one guy makes and one misses.

Have each teams starting QB see who can throw a football the farthest. I think that would be interesting and super quick and easy.

Have em throw darts at a dart board and whoever hits the bullseye first gets possession. (In don't like that one btw)

Three point shooting competition (I don't like that one either)

Those were a few ideas I had off the top of my head.

Hell even your paper rock scissors is better than a coin toss. Anything is better than a coin toss.

I'm sure smarter people than me could come up with even better ideas.

I agree that would be better than a coin toss. Make it a reward in some way that was earned somehow. Not stupid luck and nothing more.

I agree about college though. I love college overtime. So much fun.

I could get behind a combo of both here. Use college rules and the home team gets to decide if they get the ball first at the 25 (I think that’s where they start in college in OT) or play defense first from the 25.

That would work great. I would love that.

College OT is so much better than the pros and the drama is great.

That said, I would consider starting at the 30 instead of the 25, since pro kickers are so much better than college. Make them earn the TD, or any points for that matter, a little more.

Agreed. Great point about the kickers. Huge gap between college level and nfl level kickers.

Yes. Any other way could take too long, and cause too much injury

College rules are the worst.

So you think paper rock scissors would take too long and cause injury? Interesting.

Do you know how many seconds it takes to run 100 meters for these guys? About 10. The coin toss takes longer than that.

How long does it take a QB to throw a football? 2 seconds? Is that too long?

How about throwing darts? How long does that take? 5 seconds.

I don't see injuries happening in any of those circumstances.

Or how about giving the home team the ball first in OT? They were the better team in the regular season.

Funny thing is that if overtime possession was determined by a race or something right now and always had been and then I suggested that they do a coin toss instead you would think that is idiotic. Coin tossing has nothing to do with football, is not entertaining, and isn't competitive. No one would think it was a good idea if it weren't already being done.

Imagine pitching the coin toss idea. Dude it will be so awesome. A ref will flip a coin, players will stand around in a circle, and then the winner of the lucky coin toss will get an unearned advantage over their opponent! The fans will go wild for it. It will be so much fun

If it were up to me, I would modify the college OT. Home team gets to choose offense or defense, visitors pick direction. Start at you own 30 (70 yards to a TD). Mandatory 2 point conversion.

You, sir, are an idiot.
Yes... yes I am.

Wait... I thought we were talking about overtime? I don’t care how you decide who gets the ball first. Lmao

I thought the discussion was about the fact that Maholmes didn’t get a chance, and being unfair that the chiefs didn’t get to be on offense? Why do you do this to me Fish? All you’ve done is make me look like an idiot. How do you live with yourself :D:mad:
