2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

Here’s a thought that’s tilting me more in the trade for Conley camp.

Rubio is a free agent next year. This leaves us with two likely outcomes.

1. He re-signs (likely.) odds are its in the $17-19m, 3-4 year range. Just an estimate based on the market for PG’s, and the Jazz re-signing Ingles, Favors, and Exum to somewhat above market value (but good) contracts. 0% chance he doesn’t get a raise.

So we’re locked in to his production for that contract, Ricky probably doesn’t improve much.

2. We don’t re-sign Ricky. Maybe he gets a godfather offer from Phoenix or someone else desperate for a PG with cap space. We could get in a bidding war and have to overpay him. Maybe we let him walk and acquire an upgrade beforehand, but if he signs elsewhere we could be left with just Exum and Neto and have to find someone worse.

We trade for Conley and it’s a guaranteed upgrade for 1-2 years. We see if Exum can take over when Conley is done, and/or find a long term solution in the interim. Conley also becomes a gigantic expiring contract in 2 years, maintaining flexibility.

Food for thought but it’s another incentive to do what it takes (within reason) to make the trade.
What happens they get Conley. U have exum if he's playing better than Conley. U have a guy that is getting paid 35 mil on the bench. It's a terrible Idea

Rubio isn't getting that much. My guess is he would top out at 15 per year, but probably get 12-13 per year.

I just hope any trade we do includes Exum... then we've got rid of all the crap players on the team

Utah gets: Harris, Hill, Fultz, and Beverly
Clips get: Davis, Rubio, and Favors
Pels get: Gilgeous-Alexander, Robinson, Gallinari, Chandler, Bradley, Smith
Sixer's get: Williams, Mirotic, Thabo

5 1st to New Orleans (2 from Utah/LA, 1 from Philly)

Since I put it in the other trade thread I'll put it here too

Oh my heck can we drop the Jabari talk? He's horribly over-rated and the opposite of a jazz player. Let him go elsewhere. Just say NO to Parker.

Log, you are right there are certainly some concerns, but I would argue he is not over-rated. He is benched in Chicago (they have 12-wins), was not re-signed by Milwaukee, and has not moved despite being on the trade market for several weeks. Everyone talks about his terrible defense, bad knees, poor 3pt% and now Boylen says he is a bad teammate. I doubt this guys value can go much lower. People have trashed on him for being over-rated so long that I believe he is now under-rated.

It might not be the Jazz but some team will give him another chance, he is a 24-yr old, 6-8 forward who shoots the 3pt shot about like crowder, but can put the ball on the floor and pass.

Brian Windhorst: “Caldwell-Pope is available and has been floated out there for some spots. One place that they have talked to, now I’m not saying this deal is going to get done, but one place they have talked to is Chicago for Jabari Parker. And the thing about this is Caldwell-Pope has to approve of a trade … I’m not sure that’s going to get done but that’s been discussed. The Bulls really like Caldwell-Pope … Jabari Parker could be a Laker within the next few days. Jabari is a polarizing player but he might be interesting on the Lakers.”

What the *** are we waiting for!" Trade for him!! Now!!

Sorry, I couldn't contain myself :D

Jumping back on the Harrison Barnes idea... Tim McMahon seems to indicate that they'd like to get off his money for next year. He has a player option for $25M that I'm not sure he would exercise.

If it was Favs/Thabo and not other assets going out... would you rather have Barnes than some of these other options? What if we got Conley with Exum/Ricky/ and a first... and got him as well as Barnes?

Barnes is not as complete as some of the other options... think he has a lot of what we like in Tobias and some similar flaws... just not as good imo.

That’s why I like Barnes. If he bails we can start over again.

Barnes is a big step down from Harris to be sure, and I'd rather pursue Mirotic.

Please exum would go past conley everytime he wants. And he's 6'6-6'7. Speed is a winner
I thought being a good basketball player was better than being a bad basketball player. Weird, I guess because Dante is taller and faster makes him better.

I agree Harris is better... I just don't know if Barnes is a poor man's Tobias or a homeless man's Tobias. I think Barnes has a better chance of staying on the floor than Niko does in the playoffs.

The acquisition price is what attracts me most... if he is truly on sale. I think Niko may end up fetching a late first.
