2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

I want Satoransky over Conley and Rubio at this point. He's the closest thing to Jrue Holiday in this summer market and he is fairly gettable.

Him+Mitchell>watching Ricky bricking us out of games/creating a poor man version of Portland backcourt

I wrote a week ago that I didn't think Memphis trades for Rubio to be their starter ,because he's unrestricted after this season (30 games) and that it wouldn't surprise me if Exum started for them the rest of the season.
Now Wall blew out his achilleas tendon and wonder if Porter for Exum/ Favors gets new life.

Ben Dowsett podcast has a Memphis beat writer guy on it.

They both think Utah has the lead on Conley. Detroit/Memphis has died down some.

Favors most likely not included in any Conley trade. Exum possibly.

Think Conley makes the WCF possible for Utah we’re as right now the 2nd round is our ceiling.
He did not.

He had a national writer who use to live by Memphis who knows some people who work for the Grizzlies.

that is a TERRIBLE idea for toronto. these discussions have to be preliminary. i know they're desperate to win this year but man that's awful. cap wise lowry's contract is better than jackson or really anyone detroit can send, and JV is a solid piece to replace Gasol.

I can see it going either way for Memphis, but I think it'd be down to Toronto and us. Both offers are better than Detroit's.

So we are willing to give up more for Conley than we would for Kuzma? That's just crazy. Kuzma is a scorer and we are a team who desperately needs another scorer. If we create a starting lineup of Exum, Mitchell, Ingles, Kuzma and Gobert, Kuzma is our worst defender. However, everybody else is a fantastic defender. On the offensive end, we Mitchell and Kuzma are the only fantastic offensive players. I will take his defense as long as he is providing that much of an offensive threat.

What source has said that Kuzma is even available?

That sums up what we’re missing perfectly. Even joe would play better with less responsibility, he just seems so tired

I agree. He's been asked to carry such a heavy load... shoot, create, get to the rim, score, guard one of the opposing teams best players (If not the best) every night... that I think it's worn out his legs. That's why I think his three point shooting percentage has dipped. He plays damn near every game too. If we got a guy like Conley who is more of threat than Rubio as a scorer it might save Joe's legs a little bit.

Could be a 3-team deal now with Utah. Lowry has one year less on his deal than Conley. Not sure if that is a positive or negative for Utah and which one they'd rather have.

Utah had interest in signing Lowry last year. Conley/Gasol to Memphis, Lowry to Utah, Jonas to Memphis (?). I just don't know what Memphis gets out of all this. Are they giving up some combo of Norman Powell/Fred Vanleet/Delon Wright/First rounder. They have a lot of decent young talent, but I don't see how this all works financially without getting messy/complicated.

Seems like a lot to give up for Toronto just to get Conley/Gasol, who are more expensive than Jonas/Lowry. Not sure I quite get this.

Kuzma is a scorer who isnt nearly as good at scoring as Mike Conley is.

I got off the phone with an insider at a team meeting and here is what happened.

Quinn asked "what is the hold up with Washington dealing us Porter?"

DL answered, "They aren't budging, they think once Wall gets back they will be playoff contenders once more."

Quinn: "**** that!" He kicked over the table and struggled to break off the table leg. "Dennis, you get that guy out of Reno to gas up the plane. We will leave off the airstrip in Wendover, no markings, no logs. Neto, get that box of surgeon gloves and a syringe. For ****'s sake, stop sniveling, you knew what the contract included!"

The leg finally broke off with a final satisfied grunt. Snyder hefted it, grinning. "We will see how badly they think they are going to build around ****** ******* Wall!"

One other thing, we have 3 trade exceptions, I think two expire this year. $4M from Korver, $3.7M from Crowder, $2.7M from Hood.

Anyone worth a flyer? Maybe Thon Maker is worth a shot, I dunno

The first line is fine with me. I don't understand why the Grizzlies would need a third team to take Rubio though. The short term value is cap relief. Not following.

Exactly. Memphis shouldn't have any interest in winning and need to ship out Conley and Gasol. Lowry and Jackson are both on the books for at least one more year, Rubio expires this year.

Why would we want Lowry? I mean maybe a few years ago but he's looking a little washed this season. Not sure he has much left.

Would have to be a three team deal with Lowry going somewhere (utah?) for a pick.

I like it for Toronto and get it for Memphis. They want out of Gasol... JV is younger and can keep the lights on for a year. Paid less than Gasol (assuming he opts in). Lowry's playoff failings and prickly attitude may wear thin on guys (kawhi) and Conley might be a better locker room guy maybe a better playoff performer. Gasol is better than JV, so they upgrade.

I'm guessing they'd send Wright/Van Vleet to Memphis or maybe seconds or something. They don't have a pick this year... so it'd have to be 2021. But if they can move off of Gasol and still get the Utah pick by flipping Lowry here... then maybe they do it.

I like Lowry... the attitude is worrisome, but only one year left on his deal. He hasn't played as well this year... not sure I prefer him to Conley... but I've always liked him.
