Time to trade millsap

Let's face it.. if jazz want to get longer and bigger, they will want to use their minutes on a rotation of jefferson/favors/kanter. Drafting kanter solidified the idea of trading one of our current bigs. And as far as the thought of millsap starting at sf or even getting some pt there.. if he had problems guarding faster pf's, how will that translate to guarding faster, more athletic athletes?? Why do we have this obsession over millsap, if he wont accept that 6th man role? Its time to ship him out, and get a REAL wing player out of it. We still have a big void at 3pt shooting.. so get it done KOC!

Not yet. For now START MILLSAP.

This will give the youngens time to earn minutes and keep Millsap's stock high.

Start him where? PF? Isn't it time to invest time in LAST YEARS 3rd overall? If they don't get pt, they wont progress? And explain please how millsap will help these young players grow. Last time i checked he wasn't happy about moving positions to sf, and didnt want to come off the bench. He's a clogging hole in the jazzs future.

I think we are underestimating Millsap's versatility big time.

I remember a couple of years ago he was asked to guard a big time scoring wing player (wish I could remember who) in crunch time, and he got a stop. I think we will see him create mismatches as both a 3 and a 4 depending on the opponent. He is way too valuable and way to versatile to trade away right now to create playing time for someone else.

If you bench him you drive his value down. That's dumb. I too wanna see the youngens get PT and I'm not against trading Millsap but you wanna sell high. To bench him and then trade him would be selling low. Be patient.

Kanter, Jefferson and Favors are not only bigger than Millsap, 2/3 of them are slower and much worse at defending screen-roll.
Thank goodness for the lockout - hopefully that will cool everyone's jets on the trade threads.

What happens if Jefferson comes back in bad shape again and sucks for the first half of next season? Wouldn't the Jazz be better served- both now and in the future- keeping Millsap and moving Jefferson, especially since Paul has shown an ability and willingness to add new wrinkles to his game every season and adapt to different roles. If Kanter can play some 5, I'd rather keep Millsap. Prove me wrong, Al.

First, we have to figure out who fits into whatever offense Ty installs. Second, we have to get a feel for what Kanter is. Third, it's likely he'll have an adjustment period. Going into the season with Al/Sap/Favors/Okur/Kanter is about the best problem I can think of.

Agree.

Favors wasn't ready to start last season. Kanter is not going to be a dominant player as a rookie. You can continue to start Jefferson and Millsap and work in Favors and Kanter. Let those guys learn how to absolutely dominate opposing backups before they start working against starters. Provided there IS a season, the Jazz should have an idea by the trade deadline if Kanter is going to be an NBA player (or if he's going to be a Milicic or Kwame-type guy). They'll also have a better gauge on Favors and Jefferson, how much each has improved, if they fit Corbin's new defensive scheme, etc.

You need to keep Manslap, at least, until the deadline. If the young players start to live up to their effective promise, then deal from your strength to address a weakness. Millsap, for all his limitations, is effective. No reason to put the horse behind the cart and kick it's arse later for being ineffective.

Sorry, it kicked me to another screenand told me to try again. So I did and now I have the same post twice. I feel a little dumb.
