What's new

One year and seven days til we sign Deron again!!!

Okay. I don't think we're really that far apart in our assessment, but we are way apart in what we see as our appropriate reaction. I certainly see reason to be concerned about the kid, as with any kid. I definitely think it's unfair and potentially damaging to anticipate his failure. I also think it's unrealistic to think that people aren't going to be interested enough in his amazing skills for video of him to end up on YouTube, or for the dad to be willing to talk about him. I hope the family can figure out the best way to deal with this situation and I congratulate them on their accomplishments so far.

No, we're not so far apart. But I'm not quite sure how it's potentially damaging? We're on the interwebz for God's sake. Not involved in the kid's life. Unless that is, of course, you think Lil' Baller here is going to happen to peruse Jazzfanz, come across this thread, read my comments, and develop a drug habit out of some sad, self-fulfilling prophecy-type take on it all. If that's the case, I doubt he'd ever have made it anyway.

That's the positive side. The negative I think someone alluded to already.

The Jazz would be vilified since it would look like they and Deron were in cahoots to pull a fast one on the Nets, to strip them of assets in exchange for a 1.5 year rental of Deron before Deron returns to Utah. Yikes, that looks pretty shiity, dontcha think? This is a negative for the reputation of Utah.
You honestly believe that somebody would believe they trumped up the story of Williams driving out a Hall of Fame coach so that they could set this up? Anybody who was willing to believe such a story is obviously an idiot, so I wouldn't worry about that scenario at all.

Believe it or not, I think it matters what you say and how you behave regardless of whether the person you're talking about is ever going to hear it or not.

I'm not saying I believe it. But the media often comes up with the most incendiary version of facts/circumstances in order to tell a sell a more interesting, albeit gossipy, story. Much more interesting than the bland truth. And since interesting is preferred over bland, many accept the gossip as truth. I don't think the media will do small market Utah any favors and will prefer to paint the Jazz as villains.
But if it was Los Angeles or NY who pillaged a small market team I think it might be slanted as sly business, instead of villainous.

I guess we can wait and see where Deron signs before any of this is relevant. But you gotta admit it would be a very interesting story if Deron ended up re-signing with Utah.

Yes, I agree it would be an amazing story and that the media has the power to slant it either way. Anybody whose paying attention or willing to do the tiniest bit of research will be able to see what really happened. As you suggest, though, this scenario doesn't really have a snowballs chance in hell of panning out.

"Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, Mr. Richrussian, it has truly been a pleasure doing business with you."

Signed,

So I'm in Chicago tonight, and we're telling a guy at Gino's East where we're from Salt Lake and the Jazz come up and he immediately says, "Man! How are you gonna trade Deron Williams!? He's the most complete PG in the NBA. I love Rose, but you stop him from getting to the hoop and he can't do anything." we continue to talk and he can't stop shaking his head.

My point? Hell yeah. Go for it.

The end.

I know that I will get some very negative feedback from this but what if the Jazz forget all about DWill and instead go after CP3. He would be a better fit for this organization than Williams, at least at this point he would be. That story line would be the best.

With the chance that these young players really do push themselves and they become a "team" then I am sure that any high level PG would love to come to utah to enhance what is being done to the team right now.

A better fit how? Because he's a Lebron lackey/uses the same management and has ALREADY demanded a trade and already lobbied to play in New York?

Great fit.

Now.

And he never demanded a trade. And still hasn't. Deron's not a saint, but he's not a taint like little Paul.

So what if it's now? The point is he jumped at the chance to have the same management as Lebron. At least Paul's always done it and not a follower. For me, Deron appears to be ten times the douche of Paul.
