Otherwise, the window to make any significant headway by flipping assets has closed, like it was easily predicted it would.

I dont think the Jazz actually believe they can bring in a free agent. Nor is it even a great idea in most cases. All of the real possibilities are players we will have to massively overpay, and in that case it wont be worth it

What I got from the article:

The two who would best fill the hole on the Rockets’ roster are Jimmy Butler and Kawhi Leonard. The only way they could open up enough room under the salary cap to pursue on one of them would be to use first-round picks to dump either Paul and one of Gordon, Tucker, or Capela onto another team, or all three of the latter, and then fill out their roster with minimum-salary players.

If we could find a third team:

Houston gets cap space for Jimmy Butler
Jazz get Tucker and Gordon
3rd team gets Capella

Sign. Me. Up.

It weakens Houston and it strengthens us. Capella is an All Star against us. Without him, we would beat them. There is just something about the Capella/Gobert matchup which just always seems to work against us. And Tucker would fit us perfectly. Gordon would help us too.
 
If we could do that and then use the MLE on Joseph or Augustin or something, we’d look ****ing good.

Mitchell-Joseph
Gordon-Exum-Allen
Ingles-O’Neale
Tucker-Crowder
Gobert-BAE guy

Then use a 1st on BPA. Just not another ****ing center and not a pure 2. Get a legit long, athletic dude at whatever position and coach the **** out of him.

Gordon and Tucker combine to make less than $22 million. If Korver retires, he'll cost us $1.2 but we would have around $20 million in cap space if we kept Favors. It's possible that we could trade somebody like Bradley, renounce Neto and have enough cap space to absorb Tucker and Gordon. AND keep Favors.

This isn't gonna happen, but... a man can dream.

That’s very small thinking. That article highlights something we haven’t addressed in proper depth, and that’s that while a 3&D 4 is a vast improvement of fit over Favors, it’s still a full step behind what is needed to really destabilize an opponent’s defense.

This is why Harris is head-and-shoulders above any other feasible scenario this offseason and is worth the risk of striking out on.

Of course I would rather have Tobias Harris.

Why is it that if a person on jazzfanz supports an idea that others on jazzfanz think that the idea is of utmost importance?

Just like Rozier if we miss out on a ton of other options - if we miss out on top targets, I would definitely take Tucker and Gordon if Houston sold them for nothing.

Okay, then sure. I’d entertain that, but it would depend on what’s still out there at that time.

The only things I know about you are based on the stupid **** you write on this site. So, if you write stupid ****, then I'm going to conclude you're as stupid as you appear. This isn't difficult. Nor is it a stretch to think you care about that issue, since it would pretty much be on-par with your company-line ********.

No thanks. We get no closer to a chip by adding Tucker/Gordon in place of Favors/Rubio. Our spacing gets better but our defense gets worse. Gordon is also showing signs of decline. We don't solve our scoring/shot creation problem with this move.

Also, **** the idea of helping Houston out.

Correct. We're not going to get an outright superstar to sign here. I think 90% of everyone here realizes that by now. So you go after the semi stars who are such great fits in the system, they play one tier above what they are. Case in point George Hill. DL identified him as a perfect fit, and he played at an all star level here. Yes he made a greedy, bone headed decision to pass up the extension, but the idea was right. At the end of the day, you live with that.
 
Just make sure the team isn’t on the same side of the playoff bracket as Houston and Golden State. Good shot at WCF if so.

It's getting Tucker and Gordon while keeping Favors.

#1 - renounce Rubio, Thabo, Udoh and Neto
#2 - Korver retires (we stretch his $3.5 which costs us $1.5)
#3 - pick up Favors' option
#4 - either use a 2nd to dump Bradley or waive Niang
#5 - absorb Gordon and Tucker into the cap space

It isn't going to happen, but financially, it could happen.

Korver retires.
We opt out of Favors.
Sign Tobias.
Trade Crowder, Exum and a 1st for Gordon as part of three team deal.
