Could be, but you are paying you point guard 40 million dollars, about a third of your cap, and you really have nothing else that can be parlayed to anything of value. In fact, you have a pot full of negative assets. Additionally, you will just be good enough to come in at the hind end of the lottery, but never good enough to actually make the playoffs, even in the east.

A rebuild done the right way can take 3 or 4 years, if you are lucky. Charlotte would be years away from even starting the process.

Now imagine being in this situation with no draft picks. . .

That $6M might mean an additional 12-18M in tax so it is significant. They are in bad situation... should have moved Kemba a year and a half ago. Now it's burn assets to make budget or let the best player they have had walk for nothing because of money.

They could re-sign him and hope to do the Blake Griffin flip... but that is risky.

I don't see/understand why the Jazz would want to trade for anything on the Charlotte roster not named Jeremy Lamb or Miles Bridges. Their roster is doo doo, and I'd absolutely take Love and his contract over Batum and his contract as at least with Love I know that if I can get him healthy at the right time then he's a game changing player offensively for the Jazz whereas Batum has been washed for years now.

Love is not a game changer and may be more washed than Nic. His contract is two years longer than Nic's. It's not that we want Nic we want the stuff that comes with Nic, even so I think I'd rather have Nic the player than Kevin.

Kevin is coming off an injury and has been far less durable than Nic. I think Batum is not what he once was but I don't think he's washed... he has not been washed for years. He is not the sieve Love is defensively either.

I'm of the impression that Kemba can be a much more efficient player than he already is if he doesn't have to rely on Jeremy Lamb or 85 year old Nic Batum to be his 2nd options, and he actually gets to play in a lineup with more than one or two shooters on the floor.

There's a fair concern around him and how he goes surviving a 4 year max at his age and size but efficiency is one of the last things I'd knock Kemba for given the dog **** rosters MJ puts around him year after year which he can borderline drag to the playoffs year in and year out, even with all of his defensive deficiencies.

Even if we give him the benefit of the doubt it doesn't change the fact he's so little and would get hunted and killed on defense because he can't switch defensively. That's a major issue come playoffs and really the elephant in the room as it relates to Kemba.

I think it would have to be after they had Kemba signed and we missed out in FA. I don't think they give up premium assets before that. I also think they would want the money saving rather than players so Crowder and space for Batum, 2021 pick (this is the draft HS players may come... the perceived value of this pick could be huge if we wanted to flip it), and Bridges. I don't love this year's draft so #12 is pretty meh... I would want a future pick.

I would have to have Miles... I like him a lot and think he could be just a wonderful fit on and off the court.

I think Batum can bounce back... I think the coaching change hurt him a bit... he also played with Kemba and Lamb a lot... not sure if he wasn't involved in the offense by choice or by design. Funky year for him.

The thing with them is they need to retain their own guys and Turners extension kicks in... to really have space they need to remove caphold a for Bojan and Thad... both guys are pretty critical. It’s tough for them to match salary in a trade with Conley.

I think Boston may get in on Conley with Hayward and a first or two.

I think Brooklyn and Philly are the biggest Tobias competitors. I think we have the most compelling basketball case for him. If he prefers money... then it’s Philly... if he wants to go home to a cool market then it could be Brooklyn.... if Oladipo was healthy then I could see it with Tobias... but they have to cut something to add him...

Nic Batum really isn't that good, and the only real plus Batum has in his favour over Love is 2 less years on the deal. But Batum has gone through a couple of coaches now, has tried being played anywhere from 2 - 4 with some stints as a small ball 5 as well with Borrego, and he could barely keep himself in the starting lineup this year... he's not worth the money he's getting over 1 year let alone 2, and he's absolutely been washed ever since the Hornets last playoff appearance. If Batum was even 80% of what he once was the Hornets would be making the playoffs every year in the East but he's a far cry from that guy. If it wasn't for his deal only being 2 more years he'd easily be top 5 worst contract in the NBA. Joe Ingles is a clearly superior player for a fraction of price as while Batum has some nice %s he more or less can't create shots for others or himself anymore as he appeared to have lost a step this year and he really struggled running the PnR, whereas at least with Ingles he can secondary playmake as well as space the floor and defend... I don't get why you would be ok with trading for Batum.

Love on the other hand turned a Cavs team that was going for the worst record in the league into a semi competent team (Cavs were +7.8 per 100 better with him on the floor as the #1 option) and he would absolutely change the game for the Jazz in giving Mitchell a reliable 2nd option floor spacing 4 who can run pick and pops with and have Gobert on the roll in potential 3 man actions as one example. I don't really want the Jazz to get Love because of the injury concerns, but he's pretty clearly a better player than Batum and he's still a better option even when contracts are factored in.

I think it all depends on how much they like Lamb or have their eye on free agents or trade targets. Without Batum and Bridges, Charlotte could keep Lamb and probably stay under the luxury. They could also get really bold and trade expirings and 2nd rounders for a guy like Love.

If you told Charlotte they could start Kemba, Lamb, Kevin Love, Monk and not have to pay the luxury, they would love that. Of course this all depends on how much they love Bridges. If they like him as much as I like the idea of him, they won't let him go.

He is a complete free agent. The Jazz paid him $14.8 million last year, possibly a little more if he met some incentives. I'd be shocked if the Jazz offer him anything to stay on board, but if they do I really hope it's not more than about $10-11 million (just above the MLE). I don't think he's worth more than that.

I don't think they have max space unless they waive all of their capholds. It is very close so they could offload TJ Leaf on someone to do it, but I have them about a $1M short (depends on if cap comes in at $108M or 109M... playoff revenue likely determines the difference).

There is some danger for them in focusing on Tobias imo… if they lost Bojan and Thad I'm not sure Tobias is a huge get. Thad is really important to their defense.

They definitely can't get Conley and Harris.

Your overall point that we will be in the same conversations is correct though. They can likely get Conley if they put Holiday in the deal and can make a solid pitch to Tobias... I think they have a greater risk of loss than us though. I'm not sure how hard they go after free agents versus focusing on their own guys. If they did pay Tobias I'd go pretty hard on Bojan and they may not want to make an offer there. they don't have full bird rights on him, but if they preserve the caphold could offer 4/82M which should be more than enough to keep him.
