What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

Okay, so trade Favors and our 1st for Dinwiddie and Harris.

Renounce all six guys.

Trade Crowder and Allen to someone fora late 1st/early 2nd. Use that to draft BPA. Trade or cut Neto and Bradley.

Use cap space to offer Harris 4/120 which I think is the most we could offer him. Approximately.

Use full MLE on Cory Joseph.

Dinwiddie-Joseph
Mitchell-Exum
Ingles-Harris
Harris-O’Neale-Niang
Gobert-?

If the Nets trade Dinwiddie, I would imagine it would be for salary cap relief so they could sign Irving to a max deal. The best way to get Dinwiddie without losing assets is to absorb Crabbe too. Combined, they make about $31 million. If a team took Crabbe, I don't think they would have to add a great asset in order to get Dinwiddie. Brooklyn wants to get that other max player AND re-sign Russell now.

Once we get into July, Favors works for Crabbe and Dinwiddie if we renounce Rubio, Thabo and Udoh. That clears about $13 million for the Nets. If we could get them to take retiring Korver too, that still saves them $10 million. We would be left with about $9 million in cap space if we traded Korver and Favors for Crabbe and Dinwiddie.

Lets re-ignite the Beal trade discussion.

Not counting Wall, don’t the Wizards still have a bunch of salary they would like to get off?

Favors, Exum, Allen, our first rounder

For

Beal and Mahinmi

And yes, the Lakers could destroy this offer, and would.

I just really don’t want to run the same team back again, idc if that’s a dumb way to run a team. We’ve been trying to make this **** work long enough, I’m so curious what we’d look like trying to put out a modern day NBA lineup. Quin can already generate great offensive looks with this square peg squad. I want to see it unleashed. Anything but kicking the can down the road for another season

On Locke's podcast today he was talking about how OKC and Toronto went all in on PG and Kawhi and how it worked out for OKC and it got Toronto to the finals. He talked about how that kind of thing could help you retain a free agent since you can sell yourself to them for a year. Like in Utah's case, they'll only have a short interview and visit to convince Harris/Kemba/whoever to sign for 4 years in Utah. But when you trade for the dude you can show them the culture, the player development, and that SLC isn't that bad of a city for a young rich guy. Long story short, he's pessimistic about signing a big name free agent because it's hard for a team in SLC to be like, hey welcome here's our new facilities here's the city Quin is great player development great city isn't that bad fans are great pls sign for 4 years in your prime...

I think too many fans are in the "Harris or Kemba or bust" camp and want to fire the FO if they don't sign a big FA. It's just probably not gonna happen for us since we're competing with Philly, LA, NYC/Brooklyn, and Dallas which are just sexier destinations. And we probably don't have the assets to trade for a disgruntled star with one year left on his deal.

@Wes Mantooth I liked most of your idea but Cory Joseph probably isn't even worth a full MLE at this point. Dude had a worse TS% than Rubio, Exum and Neto last season. Think there could be better targets for a full MLE (e.g. Pat Bev)

So basically we're screwed?

I'd say if you're going into this expecting to sign a marquee free agent, you should temper your expectations. I'm personally hoping to snag one of the Brooklyn guys if they sign a couple max players. Like the MAC System for IASIP fans lol.

And also, I think I'm way higher on Conley than most people here, though it's probably more of a short term solution.

Lmao

You should read the lakers sub on reddit.

They claim they could trade lonzo ball for bradley beal. Lmao!!! Delusional

If we did that, renounced everyone, Korver retired, and we traded Crowder for a pick, how much cap space would we have? Enough to get Harris?
Tobias Harris? AND pickup Dinwiddie and Joe Harris?

No. The Jazz aren't getting all those players.

The reason the Nets trade Dinwiddie besides the logjam is that they want to clear soace. Sending them Favors actually hurts them.

If we wanted to use our max slot to take on Dinwiddie, Harris, and Crabbe, then we probably don't send any assets and receive a few because if they were on the verge of a super team as I believe they would have close to three max slots at that point, plus D-Lo's rights.

In this case we would not have access to the full MLE, we only have the room exception which is around 3 million.

JOE Harris. You know, the lethal 3 point shooter that we should've signed last offseason who got paid less than Exum?

Favors would be a TREMENDOUS upgrade for them as a big, and probably better than anything they could spend cap space for in the open market. The Nets live and die by the jumpshot and having the option to feed a pick and roll to someone besides Jarret Allen would be huge for them.

That said, I can't really see why the Nets would want to dump Dinwiddie. You don't dump players outplaying their contract, ever.

I think it’s still cost a first. I think Dinwiddie is worth a first and a second by himself... Harris is worth a first or damn close to it... Crabbe would cost a first to unload. So still at least one first... I think they’d look to keep Harris.

I think it’s a good thought but I think they will look to offload Crabbe with a pick... then if they sign a free agent they will get a pick in a later draft for Spencer or sign and trade Russell. I think they wait for clarity in FA before moving him.

I’d much rather have Spencer on his deal than Russell on his.

I would too, but maybe he's not as cool or in the club with the big name FAs like DLo is.

He wasn't an "all star" so he doesn't move the needle (sarcasm font)
