On Locke's podcast today he mentioned that Andy Larsen had heard that the Jazz plan to be active in the buyout market. One of the things I'd mentioned previously was that we'd actually be a destination for buyout veterans because we'll be considered a contender. The question I've wondered is who may actually end up on the market. Of course, being active in the buyout market means that you're willing to waive someone. The Jazz were active (reactive?) this summer, so credit is due there (hands forced, though), but we've heard the term active before, which prior to that has been a phrase to placate the fan base in the event of doing nothing. But I am curious, as you survey the league, who you may think be available come buyout time? I also suppose the other end of this is that they don't plan on making changes until February, or at least we can point to some far off point to say "yeah, we'll do something then" as a way of buying time where they hope things magically resolve (the bench) by then.
On a side-note, I hope Memphis keeps Iguodala out of spite.
I believe we will be active in the buyout market. I understand why we haven't in the past, not a contender, but also didn't have a role for a bit player because we had legitimate good depth.
Buyout candidates list is gonna be short... I don't believe AI gets bought out. Memphis will squeeze him financially if they do... they be frugal.
Let me look into my crystal ball for some buyouts...
- Marvin Williams... I'd be all on board for the wet bandit coming on board. He is expiring... had a good run here... could take all of Jeff Green's minutes hopefully... he knows his role.
- Tristan Thompson - I think they could likely get something for him and I don't think he'd come here... maybe he's tired of the Kardasian life doe.
- Cavs buyout candidates - John Henson, Brandon Knight, Dellavedova... I don't have a lot of interest there... maybe Dellavedova if we have given up on Exum and Mudiay.
- Marcus Morris.... maybe... but only if he took significantly less or stabbed a teammate in the locker room. I think they could move him for similar expiring money and a second so not sure a buyout is in the cards... sorry.
- Wizards... CJ Miles and Ian Mahimi… no thanks
- Chandler Parsons - I might be interested if he was healthy... can he put together 10-20 healthy games... not likely.
- Andre Roberson - I'd have some interest.
I think the buyout market will be really really bad this year. Too many teams think the have a shot at the title or a shot at their first playoff appearance in a while. Teams selling will likely find good prices.
