Our best starting lineup going into next season is Al and Sap. It's not even debatable. Doesn't mean it will always be the best. But Favors isn't ready, Kanter will be lucky to average 15, and Okur is still working back from injury.

The only real debate is who should be moved to the 2nd unit if/when Favors proves to be a better option. He won't be better offensively than either guy next year, so that would only happen if he becomes such a stud defensively that his presence guarding 4's and 5's is worth his deficiencies on offense.

In that scenario, Sap is most likely the guy to drop. As good as he is, he's not ever going to be the low post scorer Al is. So Al and a defensive ace is your better option than Sap and the same defensive ace. But Al and Sap are still going to log the big minutes up front so I'm not sure it really matters.

A lot of that depends on how far Favors' development went over the most likely extended off season. Clearly he will not be better offensively than Sap, but if he has improved his offense, combined with his far superior defense, Big Al and Favors might be the best duo.

I don't disagree this is the likely direction, but what I saw of Favors does not make me think he'll be ready defensively either. He's real raw on both ends right now. He's just a lot more likely to improve defensively next year than offensively. So he could slide into the starting unit, but I doubt his minutes would change greatly.

To my mind, the X Factor is rebounding. The kid should be our best rebounder with his athleticism. If he becomes a force as a rebounder, all bets are off as far as how many minutes he gets.
