Ok, so for Christmas my family got me a Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 ( of course my wife got a new phone out of the deal, Galaxy S2 Skyrocket, but hey, I got the tab). So far it is a fun little thing. I have found a few fun apps and such and being able to connect to the internet on the go on a screen bigger than a deck of cards is very nice. But I wanted to know, what are your favorite Android apps and why?

Personally, I have gotten hooked on Defender (so have my wife, my son, my other son, our dog, etc.). Here is a huge pic. I am on level 490 by the way.

I have been using the free trail of NBALP mobile, but they don't offer it for tablets yet (at least not for mine).

So what apps do you like? Which are the must-have apps? The best for productivity? The best for entertainement? Informational? And of course the best for farting around, since, after all, that is all that most of us do on tablets/smartphones anyway.

That's kind of personal, don't you think.
Most games I've tried I'm done with in either a few minutes, or a day, then I drop them.
The only one that has stayed for quite a while is 9 Innings: Pro Baseball.
I don't even like baseball that much.

I use the ESPN Scorecenter to check scores.
I like Google Sky Map, but don't really use it much.
I've been testing out Mint, and I have that one.
I also use a few church related apps.

Most apps I download go in the garbage soon after because they are a waste.
This is also why I don't buy apps, because there are good odds I will dump it anyways.

Here are some worth checking out:

general
Advanced Task Killer
BackCountry Navigator (one of the few apps I've purchased) - allows you to use GPS even when not in cell range
Book Catalogue - excellent catalog program
c:geo - if you are into/want to try out geocaching
Calendar Snooze - to better manage alarms
Catch - allows you to save/access notes on the web
Comic Strips - free comics, you select which ones, updates daily
Google Sky Map - star positions
Hubble Wallpaper - astronomical background scenes
MotoTorch LED - flashlight using the LED
Movies - local movie listings, sorted by distance away
Musical Lite - a variety of music programs (piano, metronome, pitchpipe, etc)
RealCalc - good calculator
TuneIn Radio - free, but I would have paid $20 or so for it. Allows you to listen to radio over internet (any channel!) via automatic connections to radio stations' feeds

games
Bonsai Blast - clone of Zuma
Flood-It! - puzzle game
Jewels - clone of Bejeweled
Puzzle Blox Arcade! - puzzle game
Robo Defense - robot tower game
Tower Raiders Gold - other robot tower game, the only game I've paid for (very addictive but really needs more levels)

LDS-related
Gospel Library - scriptures/manuals/conference Ensigns/etc
LDS Tools - ward directories for all wards in your stake

Thanks I will check those out. I have all the church related apps too. they are great for making people think you are paying attention in priesthood.

One irritating thing about my new tablet is the Swype keyboard seems to be way less intuitive than the one on my work phone. Much harder to use and get it to pick the correct word.

Amazon app store, A free $$$ app every day, though only 1 or 2 a month are worth taking a second look at.
Go launcher, launcher pro, or adw launcher to customize.
For news: Pulse & drudge report.
Sporcle is good to pass the time and a brain tester.
...and of course Tapatalk to make it easier to get on jazzfanz

Thanks for the recommendation. I'm a new Android user and appreciate the info.

I often travel all around Western states, outside of TMobile service. Prior downloading of offline Google maps is necessary to navigate in areas with no cell coverage.
