Just watched 1917 yesterday, and whoah, what a movie!

So now I've seen all the movies except Little Woman which I'm probably gonna be too busy to watch... (real reason, *cough cough*)

If you all had to rank them all, what would your list be?

Mine would be as follows.
  1. 1917
  2. The Irishman
  3. Parasite
  4. Marriage Story
  5. Once Upon a time in Hollywood
  6. JoJo Rabbit
  7. Joker
  8. Ford v Ferrari
*Little Woman (did not watch, too busy)

I have seen joker, once upon a time, and the Irishman.
I liked all of them a lot and all pretty close to the same amount but if forced to rank them I would go Joker, once upon a time, irishman

once upon a time is a far superior film to both imo.

ive not seen anything else but based on trailers, scenes and word of mouth, I imagine the joker is also better.

Ok that's your opinion, I doubt Once upon a Time will win.. it's basically a movie about movie people.. living life in Hollywood... lol ..

It's probably got nominated cos if they don't Tarantino was gonna quit making movies.. lol ..

Haven't seen any of them. In fact, I don't think I've watched a single movie made in 2019 (and possibly even 2018).

I will probably watch JoJo Rabbit and 1917 at some point.

I like Tarantino but I don't really have any interest in OUATIH. Generally don't like Hollywood movies about Hollywood. IDGAF about Hollywood and I don't enjoy watching Hollywood types jerk off to their own picture, which is what I think Hollywood making movies about Hollywood amounts to.

*spoiler*

... you're gonna love this 1 scene in Once Upon a time.. where an actress went for a nice dayout downtown, walked by a theatre playing her movie and she decided to make it known that she was in the movie and went in for free.. then we see her watching herself in her movie .. she was smiling and having a great time.

What a great time to be alive, paying money to see a movie and you're sitting there watching someone watching a movie...

Tarantino is really hitting a new high with this one.

I've seen Joker, Parasite, OUATIH and The Irishman.

I would rank them:

Parasite
OUATIH
Irishman
Joker

Wow.. VERY interesting.. would be interested to know why you rank Parasite ahead of those 3, especially the Irishman...
Part of it was recency bias - I just watched Parasite a few days ago.
I put OUATIH below it because I am a total Tarantino fanboy, but even I thought it was, at times, meandering and even, can I say... boring?
Irishman was great, but they relied too much on their deaging CGI, which was mostly effective, but 30 year olds just don't move like 70 year olds, so that ruined the illusion a bit. Also, yeah, it was just too long.
Joker... Phoenix was great, of course, but it just seemed... sulky? I mean, yeah, it was dark, but I didn't feel like it earned it. It was just there. In Parasite, it was definitely earned. They WORKED for it.

Maybe the reason I didn't find The Irishman to be too long was because I watched the whole movie over 3 days, I divided them into 3 parts so when it started to get tedious and slow, I'd just switch it off and save the rest for another day.

I've found that to be a very good way of watching a movie - who says you have to watch a movie in 1 sitting?

This maybe a new way of watching movies in this 'steaming' era .. i.e., you can have movies that are 3-4 hours long, and you have the option of watching it all in 1 go, or in 2 or 3 sittings if you choose to.

Also this is what Scoresese said in 1 of his interviews - he didn't want to restrict the movie to a 2 hour feature and not being to put in it all that he wanted to.

With the movie being on released on Netflix it gives him that flexibility.
