What's new

Coronavirus

Yeah... China would kill off a ton of people and **** their economy just to make the rest of the world angry with them! Great theory!
It's about who comes out of this worse off, China or the US. If they did choose to do this in their modelling they would have already calculated this all out.

Also the conspiracy theorist said this was a retaliation to the recent trade deal in which the US was set to make a **** load of money off of new tariffs. It was a retaliation against that and more personally against Trump.

It is really harmful to spread misinformation like this. There are all sorts of dumb conspiracies like ones spread in this thread earlier, that does not give them any proof. This is a really dumb one that was not well thought out for a multitude of reasons.

I mean they're just theories take them for what they are.

Personally for me it's really suspicious as to why the lab that has all the diseases stored would be only 15mile away from the actual market that's ground zero for the disease.

Also this being in China there's no way of anyone verifying or investigating what actually happened.

What specifically is suspicious about that?

Back to Masks - why would Trump say the CDC recommends something (which would be useful in preventing the disease), but in the same sentence say "BUT I WON'T BE WEARING A MASK"?

Like how was the CDC's recommendation gonna be received when he's not even following it?

What's the downside to him wearing 1 and setting an example as the President for people to follow?

Do the Chinese have a hard time moving things over long distances?

Well another theory was that the disease was not intentionally let out by the Chinese but that it was unintentional... (i.e., someone who worked at the lab was infected, and went to the market).

However the Chinese is still responsible as the lab was responsible for coming up with the mutated virus in the first place.

There is no actual evidence it came from the lab at all, and the proximity is irrelevant.

Here's a worrying graph:

South Korea managed to limit the spread better than most countries and their healthcare system never got overwhelmed. What does that mean in this case? It means that the bulk of the deaths happen weeks AFTER the peak in infections has been reached. The most sick people with most underlying conditions die quickly, while a lot of the rest in critical condition are kept alive for weeks but ultimately die too.

It's not an actual theory. It's just random stupid **** people have said.

Yep... I have no idea why conspiracy theories are so damn attractive to people, when there is a perfectly good natural explanation and all the evidence point to it being a natural process that has taken place. There is nothing suspicious about a biological lab being located in or close to a big city. You know why? Because such labs are EVERYWHERE. You live in a big city? There very likely is a lab close to you that works with all sorts of nasty organisms.

I think it's attractive cos we don't know definitively what actually happened, so some people just like to let their imagination run wild.

In this case the conspiracy theorist didn't want to reveal his name or else I would have already told you. He's a secretive person too. Also has a weird sense of humour and can be a bit out there with his imagination at times.

"The virus is the product of natural evolution, ending any speculation about deliberate genetic engineering":

https://www.studyfinds.org/coronavirus-origins-covid-19-wasnt-produced-in-a-lab-scientists-conclude/

JUPITER, Fla. — Over the course of this Covid-19 ordeal, a number of outlandish conspiracy theories have emerged that the virus was produced in a Chinese, Canadian, or American lab. Conspiracy theorieshave become an increasingly common part of everyday life in recent years, but a new study on Covid-19’s origins is disproving this theory. A team of international researchers have concluded that the novel coronavirus has entirely natural origins through evolution.

Here is the study, in Nature Medicine:

Thanks, that eases my mind.

I have a theory that Big Foot lives up Big Cottonwood canyon. There’s no way of verifying it.

Do you not see how stupid this is? Let’s let evidence lead our theories, shall we? There’s zero evidence that this virus originated in a lab. There’s ample evidence that it originated from some animals and jumped to humans through a wet market.

"They conclude that the virus is the product of natural evolution, ending any speculation about deliberate genetic engineering," Josie Golding, an epidemic preparedness and response program officer at the Wellcome Trust, who was not involved in the study, said in a statement, calling the results "crucially important to bring an evidence-based view to the rumors that have been circulating about the origins of the virus (SARS-CoV-2) causing COVID-19."

Yeah as I'd said, the conspiracy theorist had a weird imagination...

it’s really not healthy. This type of **** below is rampant on social media and is believed by millions of Americans. It hampers our ability to deal with crisis. It’s why millions of Americans still think this is a mere cold. Or why millions of Americans still think obama was born in Africa or Sandy Hook was a hoax. Let’s do better than fantasize about weird conspiracies and let evidence and science guide our theories.
