What's new

The official "let's impeach Trump" thread

He is clearly not well.

that's because you take him literally and not sarcastically. He was joking during his press conference about a virus that has now killed more Americans than the Vietnam war. Duh And because you listen to the liberal media, like Fox News.

He's also very sarcastic about wanting the Noble prize.

He is clearly not well.

In all seriousness, he clearly isn’t. 55,000 Americans have died. And if that wasn’t enough of a concern, Today’s Melania’s birthday. Instead of worrying about this pandemic or heck, about his wife, He’s spending his entire day whining about how he’s being covered by the media. Like the narcissist that he is, he can’t talk about the sick or dead. He can’t even talk about his wife. All he can talk about are his perceived grievances.

He’s clearly deteriorating. How anyone can think that he deserves 4 more years is beyond me. Will he even remember his own name in 4 months? I’m being serious. Most presidents physically age quickly. For Donald, he looks the same but his ability to focus on anything right now seems far worse than even during the 2016 campaign.

If the GOP still had a brain, they’d execute the 25th amendment and roll with Pence/Haley. Trump could be used as the scapegoat for the pandemic/economy and they’d have a realistic chance to retain the White House and senate. Not to mention, finally be able to come Up with better responses to this pandemic and ensuing economic depression. Instead, trump is probably going to cost them both... while also prolonging this pandemic and awful economy.

why does he want it? Oh yeah, because Obama won it.

example 10,475,374 in why he’s unfit. He’s facing one of the most difficult situations any president has ever faced and he’s worried about how the media is covering him. Any sane president would be focused on this pandemic and economy. Not Donald.

He deserves 4 more years?

Hey I just want to say to y'all who believe everything the media says. Trump never said to inject yourself with Lysol. Yeah, he probably shouldn't speculated about vague ideas for a cure, that's not his job. But at least he didn't say what the leftists are screaming from the rooftops claiming that he did. I mean, just because you are gullible and blindly follow whatever crisis NBC manufacturing at the moment in order to pursue their twisted agenda doesn't mean that you need to help them sow division.

I don't think anybody is saying he looked into the camera and told Americans to inject themselves with Lysol or bleach, Joe. But he did state on national television that disinfectants kill the virus "in a minute, one minute", and then in practically the same sentence suggested that DHS look into how an injection might have a "cleaning" effect. It's the thinnest of arguments to listen to him during that presser and not infer from it he was wondering whether disinfectants might at least be modified and injected, and that this idea should be looked into. That's clearly what he meant, and there was no sarcasm, just self-important musings. A subsection of Trump voters/supporters who put a lot of stock in his off-the-cuff ramblings is likely to hear something like that and act on it. This isn't even a speculative thing to say-- look at the fatal results of his more direct advocacy of hydroxychloriquine (ironically, "It's not going to kill anybody... What do you have to lose?"), and it's not surprising that since his comments re: disinfectants, state and local health officials are taking calls from people asking if they should in fact ingest disinfectants to fight Covid-19 (https://www.baltimoresun.com/corona...0200426-jb3tt6bv3rerzk3me4mi4pmkhy-story.html). At best, his comments were inestimably irresponsible, but that's admittedly coming from someone who thinks Trump's ego-first approach is proving to be increasingly stupid and dangerous. Right now I'm just waiting to see how long it will be before media reports of people dying from ingesting disinfectants are dismissed by Trump supporters as nothing more than left-wing media hype.

Correct. Not Lysol. Disinfectants.

Which part of this didn't he actually say?
Joe is correct. He never used the word lysol. That would have been stupid

Injecting yourself with disinfectant makes tons of sense.

I agree he never mentioned Lysol, just general disinfectants. The lack of a product reference is not an improvement on Trump's comment.
I don’t think Joe was hung up on whether or not he used the word Lysol. What I’m reading is that he’s saying that Trump was having a side conversation on hypotheticals of how it could be treated, with sunlight in the body or a disinfectant, and that he did not say these were treatments nor that people should do this. They are most certainly stupid thoughts and hypotheticals, but as stupid as they are it’s still not him suggesting people drink [insert whatever you want] or inject [insert product of your choice].

Agreed. I actually think this is the main message of the media backlash: That Trump was having what should have been a side conversation with Bill Bryan on camera in front of the entire country, and certain elements of his constituency don't have the discernment to know the difference between that and literal advice. Whether he lacks the awareness that his words have that kind of influence is arguable; what is not is that he was doing it solely because he thought it made him look smart and/or thoughtful in front of his audience. Inevitably, some of the media response is overblown, and now, unfortunately, we're seeing an attempt to deflect by focusing on the media's critical reporting of his comments, and to re-frame it as overblown in its entirety.

In the meantime, people die; no big deal. The fact that this happens regularly doesn't make Trump incompetent, though-- he's just misunderstood.

Lol, and he deleted the earlier tweets about the Noble prize. Yeah, a clear sign that he was employing deliberate sarcasm.

You are a couple news cycles behind.

the story you are now programmed to believe is that he said it but it was a joke. Ha. Ha.

I honestly hope for Melania's sake she has a very nice "pool boy" to keep her company.

Which part of this didn't he actually say?

If Trump apologists really believe some version of “Trump didn’t say Lysol” is a bigger deal than a president of the United States musing about injections involving disinfectants, and that position is the hill they’ve chosen to die on, nothing will dissuade them from dying on that hill.

But, he is the president, and what he says does have real world consequences, even when his statements are divorced from the real world.

Except, it wasn't a "side conversation", he was speaking directly to the American people. I agree he did not specifically say this was cure or directly tell people to do it.

It would be nice to have a conversation about how stupid something Trump said was without some right-winger bringing in straw men about how he didn't say this much stupider thing.

I agree with that too. Still really stupid thing to say hypothetically on live tv to a country looking for answers during a pandemic.
