It's almost as if Corona virus is not and has never been quite the threat it's been made out to be. Crazy!

Or did you consider that the sheer brutality of Floyd’s Murder captured on video was so bad that it shocked people into protesting about injustices and societal inequities that have been around much longer than coronavirus? Do you need to watch the video again? I’m curious, what literature have you read about being black in America? Have you read Just Mercy, White Rage, Black like Me, Understanding Mass Incarceration, or anything that informs about racial inequalities? How would you feel being a black person in this country? It’s obvious they’re treated far worse then whites. Where’s your empathy for their plight? Judging by the masks I see in those videos, people are still aware of the coronavirus. But they judge systemic racism and police brutality to be a greater threat to our society.

I personally haven’t been at a protest. I doubt I will because I’m pretty anxious about getting the virus or bringing it home. My wife and I have kicked in money to various BLM causes and have called and written several public officials. Even then, we’re still considering SLC’s protest next Wednesday (I’m still very anxious about the virus). However, if it weren’t for the virus I’d easily be at these protests, without having any second thoughts.

wow. It’s really interesting to see how Floyd’s death has triggered these protests around the world. It’ll be more interesting to me at least, how democracies around the world which are far more responsive to their people, act. You know democracies like New Zealand, Australia, Canada, and Germany will respond. What types of reforms will they enact? And will the United States follow? Or will we continue to slide into oligarchy with a minority political party ignoring the demands of the majority of the people? I mean, we’ve seen how New Zealand and Canada have reacted to gun violence and how republicans have prevented us from doing the same. Will republicans continue to do with with necessary reforms that would reverse current racial inequities?

Great Britain, United States, Australia. Given how far we have fallen, under Trump, in the eyes of the world, I feel a certain pride in knowing the whole world is watching us yet, and that the movement for social justice and police reform in this nation is influencing similar protests and movements across the globe. I know all of this was triggered by a singular tragedy here, but what is being born the world over is a good thing....

It’s 2020 and only now is law enforcement debating banning choke holds and raping people in custody? Seems like this overhaul was long overdue.

Sadly these two cops who raped this girl got most of the charges dropped and only got a 5 year probation for misconduct.

It's beyond terrible what these cops did and I don't think it's all that uncommon.

Rape was always illegal but if you want to twist it to promote your propaganda to make it seem like laws are just now preventing officers from raping those is custody then go for it. Pretty ****** thing to twist, even for you.

Absolutely disgusting thing to do. Do you really think cops raping those in custody is common? What do you mean by that?

Painting most officers as bad and as the enemies is counterintuitive and is fueled by hate - just like racism is.

I'd hate to be a cop right now. Lots of these cops are gonna hit breaking points and I hope they quit before they snap on someone.

Seems like a hard concept for some of the protesters/rioters but violence against the innocent is wrong.

If you are in police custody, how can your consent be free? It's like statutory rape, there is no process for reasonable consent.

I'm not arguing that, obviously...

If an officer raped someone in custody 4 months ago, 4 years ago, 40 years ago it was still rape.

I agree with the new law and it's absurd it wasn't already a law. A police officer should not have sex with anyone in custody.

Over 500 businesses destroyed in the Twin Cities area alone.
I feel bad for the dude that emigrated here from Ethiopia. He puts it perfectly when he says what happened to Floyd was injustice just like his business being destroyed.

I'm surprisingly how brushed off the pandemic has become amongst these protests and seems, at this point, a lil wreckless.

People are out there fighting for a guy who couldn't breath and died while endangering themselves and others to COVID-19 which makes you unable to breathe and die.

Could you imagine trying to explain 2020 to someone from a year ago?

That tweet says that violence can never stop violence. That's not true.
