Tough Day To Be In Law Enforcement

I was reading the wiki page for Jefferson Davis after reading about the statue being taken down and comments about him. But this quote made me laugh:
"Many historians attribute some of the Confederacy's weaknesses to the poor leadership of Davis.. lack of popular appeal, feuds with powerful state governors and generals, favoritism toward old friends, inability to get along with people who disagreed with him, neglect of civil matters in favor of military ones, and resistance to public opinion all worked against him."

Hmm, that sounds like someone else.

Not only that but the Confed army was outnumbered 3-1, and many of the soldiers were poor farmers who didn't own slaves and were fighting to support the wealth of the aristocracy not for a cause they believed in. As a result, many deserted and in the latter part of the war, underage boys were fighting in their place. Meanwhile by 1863, the Union Army was being reinforced by black soldiers who had every reason to fight and win the war.
 
Posted from my white cousin who has a black husband and 3 interracial kids. Kind of interesting just because it is coming from someone in her situation. Her husband, whom I like a lot, never posts anything politcal.

"Both white males killed at the hands of police officers and are equally as disturbing as the George Floyd video. I didn’t hear about either one in the news. Not to mention Bernardo Palacios until long after George Floyd. What is the reason only certain things are put out in the mainstream media? Statistically double the amount of caucasians are killed per year by police officers than African Americans. I’m not denying or taking away from the fact that’s racism exists but when something goes mainstream always do your own research and try to think for yourselves rather than eating up everything that is fed to you. I know most have the best of intentions and I love seeing that. But at the same time, don’t be fooled.?

She's also an anti vaxer though.

Yeah. stats I think we've all heard. We haven't been fooled. Black people are killed by police at a significantly higher rate, despite the total number of white people killed being higher.

Yeah, I assume she's looking at a macro level, not a micro level. I dont disagree that it is lame that the whites killed in absurd ways get basically no media interest though.

Well, it wasn’t double last year. It was 14 whites and 9 blacks.

But there are roughly six times as many whites in the country so...

Macro vs micro? White killings do get coverage. The vast majority of police killings do not get any attention, regardless of who's killed. I mean do people think Michael Brown was the last black person killed by police?

Certain situations grab our attention. It is not just that George Floyd was black that made this such a focal point for all of us.

Like 3 days ago my wife made a comment about cops never killing unarmed whites, I showed her a few a fairly recent cases, although none as disgusting as George Floyd or Tamir Rice but she had no idea these had even happened. Like not at all. They might have popped up in the news but not anything like Floyd or the other guy that was just reaching for his wallet. Not that she is in the news everyday like I am but although I 100% agree cops treat minorities far worse in general, I think the bigger overall issue is just untrained, irrational, angry, power hungry police as a whole.

Ha ha if you knew her dad, or mom I guess as her mom took her and ran away to England for like 20 years when she was a toddler you'd cut her some slack. I'm 100% avoiding responding to any of her idiocy though.

fine... its like when my wife says the new family in the ward is nice and she wants to have them over... then as we start talking with them I find out they are in an MLM and "have an oil for that". I immediately write them off as someone I want to be friends with. I'm a hardcore MLMist I guess. The full blown anti-vaxers have the same effect.

Do you have any videos of the whites getting killed in absurd ways?

I'm guessing that if George Floyd getting killed wasn't on a great video and right out in the open with tons of witnesses then we wouldn't have even heard about it.
