Are the Jazz trading UP for Aaron Nesmith?

Vanderbilt's Aaron Nesmith says the Jazz are one of the first teams he talked to. Said he loved watching Donovan Mitchell & Rudy Gobert in the playoffs: "Me being out on the wing would do nothing but make their lives easier." Would fit in by "getting deflections, taking charges."

Dare I to dream? 6'6" with a 6'10" wingspan, arguably the best shooter in the draft, who also plays defense. Dare I?

I think Neismith would be terrific in our offense as a pick and pop player. Keep him out in three point land and let Donovan handle the rock.

We don't have a lot of trade assets unfortunately as our expirings are either too valuable or not valuable enough.

We’d have to move up to somewhere in the 12-15 range. That would mean dealing with Sacramento, NO, Boston or Orlando. Out of that list Orlando may be the best option (though I don’t know what we’d offer) and by then he could easily be gone already. He’s mocked to NO on some sites.

Having said that, I’d be very happy if the Jazz did find a way to get him.

So another 3 like Bojan, Ingles, Royce, and probably someone else I’m forgetting. Whatever. I guess that’s cool.

I just hope Brantley and Morgan make a leap and we get a legit stretch 4 with the MLE.

Conley and #23 for Gordon, Aminu and #15?

Orlando does it to shed $26 million for the 21-22 season. They are shopping Gordon and I don't know if Aminu is worth $9 million+.

We do it for better depth at PF and SF plus the draft bump of course for Nesmith.

I’d be all over that trade, but it would leave us with a lot of forwards and a very thin guard line.

There could be something to this I think because.

1. The best shooter in the draft is exactly what the Jazz could use - not to mention he's propensity for steals and deflections in the passing lanes.
2. Why would the Jazz even try talking to a lottery pick unless they had plans to move up?
3. Under Dennis Lindsey the Jazz have rarely just taken their late first round pick, and have moved up (or traded for picks) whenever they see players they want that are worth pursuing (Trey Burke, Donovan Mitchell, Rudy Gobert, Jarrell Brantley, Miye Oni) and additionally they have traded out of the first round completely when there is no one who seems to suit them.

Stop getting my hopes up! But as for your first point, unfortunately there are about 28 other teams that could use the best shooter in the draft.

I would also have interest in Jalen Smith as a stretch 4. Depending on who you talk to, he's either a late lottery or mid 20's pick, but would give us a dynamic we haven't had.

Nesmith vs Devin Vassell is one of the drafts better debates. I feel like Vassell would be a better fit for Utah. He'd be more of a difference maker all around.

The idea that Nesmith's defense is close to Vassell's, to me, is a hard sell.

Gordon on his contract is a very solid asset. They won't give value to move off of it. Aminu is small and not that bad. If they move Gordon they will get stuff not give it.

This trade is highly slanted towards us.

This draft is pretty sweet in the 10-17 range: Vassell, Nesmith, Hampton, Maxey, S. Bey, Pokusevski, Kira Lewis...

Jazz would probably need #13 from the Pels or #12 from the Kings if they want Nesmith.

Gordon has this year and next. Aminu too. Thats why its saving Orlando $26 million for 21-22.

I agree that we get the better of the deal, but we're also low on Conley due to fit. Maybe Orlando sees Conley as a good fit. He could bring out the best in Vucevic, Ross, and Isaac while helping groom Fultz. Conley would fit next to Bamba better than anything they have.

Orlando has to pay Fultz and Isaac next summer so maybe they think two steps ahead with financials in mind.

How much is Fultz gonna fetch? He surely isn't breaking any bank. . .

I'd take Vassell. His shooting is a bit underrated, imo. I think offensively he can be like Allan Houston, an 18 ppg scorer.
