From something I remember reading about the last election there were 7 electors who went against the voters. 5 gave the votes to trump after the voters voted for clinton and 2 gave the votes to clinton after the voters voted for trump.
Is that true?
If so then it wouldn't be surprising at all for this to happen.

There were 10, but none of them went Clinton to Trump (or Trump to Clinton).

From Wikipedia:

In addition, three other electors attempted to vote against their pledges but had their votes invalidated:

  • In Colorado, Kasich received one vote for president, which was invalidated, and the elector was replaced by one who cast a vote for Clinton.[42]
  • In Maine, a Democratic Party elector voted for Bernie Sanders but was forced to cast a vote for Clinton.
  • In Minnesota, another Democratic Party elector tried to do the same but was replaced by one who cast a vote for Clinton. The same Minnesota elector voted for Tulsi Gabbard for vice president but had that vote invalidated and given to Tim Kaine.

There are laws in several states that require the electors to cast their vote for the candidate that won the election in their state. I'm just trying to remember what I've read about it but I believe in some other case it was stated that even without a specific law states would be able to remove a faithless elector, invalidate their selection and replace them with a person who will cast their vote for the person who won.

It would be such an insane way to try to overturn the election. The U.S. as we know it would be done.

He could, if he had it in him, address his followers: “the election was free of any substantive cheating/dishonesty. The election was not stolen, and I ask my followers to accept the results”. Of course, next to impossible that he would do that. Instead, what he is doing is to help build that alternate reality narrative that will help poison our body politic for the foreseeable future. He has the power to diffuse this situation, and help, greatly help, his country and fellow citizens by so doing. Nobody else can do this, given that this is a cult, and he needs to give his followers permission to accept reality. One of, if not the most, destructive individuals in our history.

Aren’t both sides the same? If Biden lost, can’t you imagine him spouting off conspiracies on CNN while Democratic senators enable him???

All this rigged talk without actually being able to say how and why it was rigged reminds me of this quote from The Social Network:
