Jazz select Udoka Azubuike with pick 27 & trade Tony Bradley + pick 38 to the Pistons

Will also say this pick makes me less bullish on my opinion about moving on from Clarkson. If Udoka is really that dude on defense, the Jazz can return to being an elite defensive team which means I'm less worried about Clarkon's D.
This rookie is definitely not a clear sign of our return to an elite defensive. The biggest problem was—and remains to be—out on the perimeter.

I really like the pick in that:
1.This could help with our 48 minute defensive identity. He has a 68.6% TS% in college despite being so God awful from the line. If he can even get that up to 58-59%, we’ll have a very solid two way center. My biggest thing with hmm right now would be conditioning. He got into better shape year by year and I’d like to see that continue. That and his FT%.
2. We dumped Tony’s salary
3. Morgan and Brantley have a lot of room to grow as well still as other 4 or 5 options.
4. We still have the MLE and BAE to go after one or two really good defenders.

So Udoka is more like Hassan Whiteside than Rudy, much more fluid on the post with soft touch, but also much less mobile on defense that nearly gets him killed every time when he moves out of the paint. Good to know.

The 10 minutes a game TB was playing a night in the playoffs was not the problem... That has become the narrative and its ****ing hilarious when you look at the actual results. Also, backup bigs end up playing less...

And you can vouch for me on this... its never the guy... like Udoka might be Clint Capela without any FT shooting at all... its the process we got there. I've given DL the benefit of the doubt when he has ****ed up the process so many times... I called my shot at the time without hindsight. This was the final piece of evidence for me that he doesn't get it and he isn't flexible or nimble enough to ever get us to a point where we can compete at the highest levels. That is my frustration... even a small chance of hope and I will ride with you. Small markets have to squeeze blood from a turnip to get to the promised land... we consistently **** up around the edges.

The team we have this year will be our best team for the next 5-10 years. I will enjoy them and try to put the blinders on to not think about how much better it could have been if we didn't **** up basic stuff.

I give the Jazz a D grade ranking. They used their only pick on a player they majorly reached for and has major holes in his game at nba level. Should of drafted Bane, who would fit the family culture of Utah and then traded into early round 2 and take the Big guy. It pains me to watch the jazz draft while Nuggets keep stacking up talent. Nuggets are going be able to make major moves in a couple years and wow they are building something special there. Wish Jazz could do the same smh

Jazz got their version of Boban. The player that checks in and the opposing guy who is guarding says to himself "I have to guard this ****ing guy?".
You know what we could have done instead... taken a wing or a flier on a upside prospect and then called Dallas to see what assets they would give us to take Boban. We get a papercut and pay for an elective surgery to have it stitched up... could just go get a band aid and some neosporin.

The drafting philosophy of nuggets is how jazz should be drafting. DL sucks, even the star players was drafted by nuggets. I can't stand the nuggets and it's mostly out of jealousy since they have a front office who knows how to win and draft unlike Jazz FO who keep reaching for bigs like bradley and Udoka.

You are making so many good points. Keep it up.

Highly doubtful that Mavericks would get rid of him. Just watching the playoffs you could see he is the voice of the team. The way he confronted Porzingas after he got ejected in playoffs was beaut

and he just barely turned 21 in september. played his entire senior season at age 20. it is absolutely notable that the Jazz are getting a guy with four years of college experience but is the same age as guys who came out after their sophomore season.
He's inexperienced and young but also so seasoned and ready to contribute... got it!

His free throw shooting looks like when they bring a fan out of the crowd to wind a medium pizza by making a shot... honestly the fan might have a better chance of making it.

Also he cheated on his vertical measurements and there are reports he might be older than his listed age.

Fellas and couple ladies it sucks being a jazz fan at moment when your division rival has built a better squad and they not only kill the draft for their team but have basically made the jazz what they are with DM and Gobert

Also ironically Royce, our only modern day 3D on this team, is undrafted FA who impressed quin during summer league. It was Quin who made him into something out of nothing. Just imagine if he had a FO who knows to appreciate the value of 3D players in today's game instead of being stuck in the 90s

That's like saying we wouldn't trade Ed because of his amazing locker room presence... its nice to have and is valuable but if we can get a better player or be rid of his contract we will.

I just had
Can’t pass, shoot, dribble, or move on the perimeter. He’s a poor mans Boban. He’s going to be as effective as about 10 players we could get on the open market at somewhere between the minimum and the BAE. We are assuming he will be ready now but he is likely to **** up the offense as hard or harder than Ed in his first year.

Also a budget Deandre Jordan gets played off the floor by round 2 of the playoffs. The move shows how our management can’t be flexible or innovative. We play the same way all the time... even though nba teams have proved they can beat that style in the playoffs.
i feel like the playoffs proved that small ball doesnt work. Or did the rockets win the championship without me knowing? How about the clippers? Celtics? All of them embraced small ball. How’d it work out?
The Lakers won with size, not despite of it. They had 3 legit bigs, Denver had 2, we had 1.

even the warriors relied on bigs like Bogut and McGee to win.

We lost a lot when we got rid of favors last year. I love this move rebuilding our frontline.
