What's new

Nicholas Batum?

My guess is that he’ll go somewhere where there’s a little more confidence in the minutes he’ll get.
If the Lakers are interested he'll go ring chasing regardless of the minutes.

So in that quote he said he lost 22 lbs. that’s probably a good sign... I think that is likely part of what happened with the disinterest.

here is what the article says about the Jazz

Utah Jazz: to relaunch the "French connection"!

Do you feel it coming, the “French Connection” with Rudy Gobert? Quin Snyder and the Jazz play basketball which would fit perfectly with the game of Nicolas Batum. Movement, passing, cuts, hand-to-hand… it is typically in this style that the Frenchman can express his qualities as a talented designer but not as punchy as other rear-mounted on springs.

Joe Ingles' performances (not the same shot, for sure) attest to this. Utah is one of the best defenses in the league thanks in large part to Gobert, but the former Manceau can also play his part in this area. And if in addition, he finds the address ... it promises.

I dunno, I think he’s young enough where he could rehab his value with us for a year, sign another nice short term deal elsewhere, and then go ring chasing with someone.

again, no thanks. he's washed. and even if we find a way to get him to play at even 60% of the level he used to be, he's still highly redundant to Bojan and Ingles as ball-handling point forward who doesn't bring us the physicality/athleticism that we desperately needs. plus Batum will probably phase out(if he hasn't already) around the same time frame as Bojan/Joe so what we really need is long term project that we can bring as their replacement in a long run. preferably, this should surprise no one, a 6'8/6'9 athletic wing.

I think he was more disinterested than washed... I hope we are able to bring him in

Imagine this lineup...

Gobert
Favors
Bojan
Batum
Mitchell

3 level scorers in Mitchell, Batum, Bojan
Tons of length, I mean everyone is nearly 7ft wingspans or greater....yikes. They probably would defend the perimeter well...and down low no one would score...ever...with Favors and Gobert.

Realistically, Batum would probably take minutes away from Niang, Oni, Morgan and Ingles in the 2nd unit. Ingles may play better if he is suddenly only the backup point guard. The bench would suddenly be crazy good offensively and defensively.

Favors
Batum
Oneal/Niang/Oni
Clarkson
Ingles

Ah...wow! Other benches would be destroyed!

Um... you kind of forgot Conley here.

A bench with Conley, Clarkson, Ingles, Oneal, and Favors looks Ballsy.

As I read it , Charlotte are looking to trade Batum for hayward then Boston finds a 3rd team to dump his salary , saving Charlotte having to pay him out ...

good luck with that ... teams are just waiting to pick him up for the Vet Min ..

Yeah, other than the Knicks I don’t know what other team could just absorb that contract. I suppose Charlotte could throw in a pick to get off that money, or maybe even Boston as they want the trade exception.

The only other thing that would make sense is if there is another player out there with a similar contract that Boston wants and the current team is willing to dump for an expiring. Off the top of my head I cannot think of anyone. Maybe Chicago would trade OPJ for Batum and picks...
