I'm surprised there isn't a thread on this yet, if there is sorry I missed it. I am not necessarily a this protesting because you're upset, but don't know what you want. I think it would behoove those involved to come up with some more specific policies they like/don't like, but it is clear there are a lot of discontent people out there. Right now I feel like this is a more liberal response to a tea party. Neither have specific goals although I'm sure tea partiers will disagree. Hopefully in the coming weeks the protesters will come up with some specific demands, get organized, and gain more nationwide attention. I think people are sick of the way things are, and some might not know what it is they are upset about. Hopefully those who are able will take the time to learn a little more or reflect a bit and decide what specifically is upsetting them.

Have any of you participated in this or thought about it? Does this upset anyone? How do tea partiers feel, are you involved or upset? Does anyone think anything will come of this (I think nothing too major; yet.)?

It will only become really be fun if the dogs, firehouses, tear gas, and riot gear make an appearance.

While it's true that there is not an official Tea Party, most people that do identify themselves as such have some core issues.

Limited federal government
Controlled Federal Spending
Adhering to the Constitution
Individual freedoms
Personal responsibility
Free markets
Returning political power to the states and the people

As always you get a few fringe "members" that are looking for something more radical but I think overall the Tea Party has been pretty good at getting their main message out there.

I've been listening to interviews of people occupying Wall Street and they are all over the place. As you mentioned there really is no coherent message. I think that it mostly consists of people frustrated for a multitude of reasons so everyone has a different thing they are looking to have happen.

Not that I don't hate Wall Street as much as the next person, but the big problem I have with these protests are that I'm not really sure what they're protesting. They have no real clear message, other than "damn the banks for getting us into this mess." I'd be more apt to listen to them if they were promoting some sort of changes that were laid out.

Perhaps the fact that they don't have a coherent message says more about them collectively than we want to admit.

I agree. Unlike the Tea Party, this group shows no signs of having a central message or central organizing theme, making it appear to be a truly grassroots thing. Of course, you could disagree on that, just like Herman "I don’t have facts to back this up" Cain.

Real grassroots protests take time to find their voices and positions. I'm sure we'll see some of that come out in the next couple of months.

Or are they going to get *gasp* hi-jacked just like the tea party? You're forgetting, the tea party was a Ron Paul movement firstly. Then the Republican machine came in and swallowed them. Hence, the seperation between Paul and that movement right now. That's exactly what's going to happen here, if it hasn't happened already. All the familiar left wing groups/names have already been popping up in this thing.

who said tea party had 1 specifick messgae. now the history books say so now. but it mnight just be like this occupation different messgae but 50 years from now people will only remember 1

Anything happening in Toronto's financial district right now?
I don't think so, although apparently something's being organized for the 15th (as per a quick google search). Obviously, Canada hasn't been affected by this global mess nearly as bad as most Western countries, so I doubt anything nearly on par with what's going on in New York will transpire. We had our fun last summer.

I don't understand how big business and corporations have screwed me over.

Though I do wish school was cheaper, but I don't think it's insane.

that's because you haven't received the bill for your share of the deficit, much of which was due to tax breaks and bailouts to big business and corporations. If you're still college age, then it'll be tough to last throughout your career and to retirement without major tax hikes or major cuts to social programs (e.g., Medicare) or both. All is mitigatable with requiring people, especaially the wealthy, to pay taxes in line with historical levels.

Ok I didn't understand it was just protesting against business's taking bailouts, I thought it was all big business.

How come there not protesting Obama's friends Solyndra that got 546 million and then went bankrupt?

So happy they think that Human Rights equates to a free college education along with a minimum wage of 20 dollars an hour. Face it, these people are Looney Toons. Get a job you filthy hippies.

It's my Human Right to live a comfortable life without having to actually do anything for myself or anyone else. I mean, you guys couldn't stand to see me suffer, could you?

I like how they're protesting in Pioneer Park. I was pretty worried because I was going to visit my brother that day, and he's part of a huge corportation, but luckily they aren't really going to affect his life or any of the corporations because they'll be far away in pioneer park, annoying the homelss people more than anyone else.

The key that everyone in that movement needs to understand is that it wasn't a capitalism problem. People have been manipulated into thinking oligarchial socialism, crony capitalism, or monopoly fascism - whatever you want call our current system - is capitalism. It's not capitalism. Keep to the End the Fed/Glass Stegall/Low derivatives tax/punish criminality/no bailouts/end useless wars/ getting corporatism out of government/limiting fractional reserve banking line of thinking and we might make progress and retain our freedom in the process. When they start asking retroactively for punishment and for free stuff, we're screwed. Just don't bail them out next time. And don't pay their derivative debt. They're on the brink again right now. Just let the system purge.

We absolutely can't have the tea party on one side asking for government cuts and the left wing asking for more stuff and taxes on the other. That's exactly what the bankers want. All we're going to get with that is a mixture of the two in the form of massive austerity and higher taxes. Also known as, the middle class being broke as a joke.

Solyndra was one failure in a very successful (or so I've heard) loan guarantee program. No loan guarantee program has a 100% success rate.
