Donovan Mitchell Struggles

I was and do but it appears that the front office and Quin may not have shot straight with Stock, Mark Few and NWG.
How not? Based on what? I had to google Mark Few. What do we owe him? What’s our obligation to the college coach of a guy we drafted in the second round four years ago? Did he pay a dowry?

I don't know if it's good policy to make the Coach of the No. 1 college team in the country and an NBA Hall of Famer upset with you. Quin has had a problem with the truth particularly when he was coaching at Missouri. Why can't he and DL just be straight with people? It's not that hard.

Not buying it. They may not like what happened with NWG but I doubt anyone pulled a fast one. We hung on to him longer than made sense.

Shooting straight with what, though? This is the NBA. People are waived all the time. What did anyone not shoot straight about by waiving NWG? What are the consequences of not checking in with a college coach after drafting a dude with the 55th pick, letting him play overseas, and deciding to waive him four years later? Where’s the precedent on this?

There’s a much stronger (if even still irrelevant) argument on waiving your star player’s best friend, who was supposed to be NWG’s ceiling.

Other than both were asked about drafting him initially. Players get cut all the time, I get that. It appears something was said and NWG more than lived up to his end of the deal. I find it odd that a guy gets waived just after lighting it up and being named KSL player of the game.

Bumping this thread. It’s getting absurd. Right now we don’t need superstar Mitchell. We don’t need All Star Mitchell. We need whatever version of Mitchell is not a gigantic liability on both ends.

He’s got to be one of the most damaging players in the league so far. His combination of cannibalizing the offense while being a liability on defense is tough to match.

Starting to think the Monstars stole his talent for the upcoming Space Jam 2 movie.

They went on a run every time he/Bogey came in. His defense is horrendous, he turns the ball over, he stops the ball and the offense. He will figure it out but he has been down right dreadful. Offense was pumping, Jazz up 18, he came in was horrible defensively and threw the ball away. Again he'll figure it out......but my goodness man.

I have no doubt he is a better player than this...but this is year 4. My concerns is his development, or lack thereof. I didn't expect him to be at the level he was last playoffs, but I thought he was primed for a leap in his career. I'm confident that he isn't the trash player he's been...but sadly I'm pretty confident we aren't going to see the big improvement either.

He's struggling as a point guard
This. He is trying to be a point guard and not a basketball player.

Also, when donovan hits 2 x 15 foot jumpers in the first quarter he almost always has confidence which leads to a great game. Quin refuses to let our players take those shots so he doesn't take what the other team gives him but forces it. Thats gotta change.

You’re ****ing high if you don’t think Donovan has the greenest of lights which is and has been the biggest problem in his development. He needs to be reigned in at all and it won’t happen.

Once Don gets his off the dribble 3's right (he's shooting 20% currently) he'll will probably go back to being an extremely dangerous scorer.

I think his passing has improved, by the slightest of margins.

But hopefully once the off bounce 3 comes back, it will open up offensive game again.

The defense is a giant trash can and I really have little hope it improves enough to make a difference, so I'm just praying he gets the shot back.

He has a green light... to shoot 3s and get into the paint. But really, how many mid range range shots does he take a game? 1? 2? It's usually a very open shot because teams expect a 3 or a layup. It also usually comes before a big run.

I believe that this is purely a strategic decision. We want to maximize points per shot by taking shots not in the midrange. Donovan would do himself a world of favors to hit a 10 - 20 foot jumper is all.

Hopefully he doesn't contract Gary Harris'itis. He looked like an upcoming all star, mysteriously lost his shooting ability a few years ago and never regained it.

Donovan turns down multiple wide open 3’s a game to shoot contested 18-20 foot contested fadeaway jump shots. Wtf are you talking about? Him doing this is part of his shooting issues. He is an amazing catch and shoot 3 point shooter. He turns those down every single game to dribble a couple times and take a horrible long 2 point shot. Donovan’s biggest issue right now is he tries to get himself going instead of having a feel for the team. Jazz were up 18, JC was rolling, sub in Donovan and Bogey, Don turns the ball over a couple times, and takes multiple bad shots to try to get himself going. Donovan/Bogey coming in and JC going out was what started the collapse last night. Donovan has decided he’s good enough offensively to not play even average defense. His offense just isn’t covering it for him right now.
