Looks like the GOP is going to be forced to make a choice. Either they can win elections by moving away from Trumpism or they can win primaries by moving towards Trumpism.

I can’t do that question justice, but, among other things it is an attitude of extreme antipathy towards all authority(i.e., elites) in science, medicine, and politics. It is the promotion of conspiracism as the default mode of thinking. (The talking points in his phone call to Georgia were born of QAnon, 4chan, etc.) It is extreme grievance politics, where Trump is a victim, and since his followers believe, they too are the victims. It is adhering to the position that nothing Trump says must ever be questioned. In the latter case, it is much like a cult. It is the position that Trump=the state, and that anybody who disagrees with Trump is an enemy of America.

Trump succeeded in burning down the Republican party. It's been his goal all along to reform it into the Trump party. They'll never recover.

Well said.

I was going to just say it is a cult. And that's about it. The most pervasive cult, in the worst possible sense, at the highest level, america has ever seen. Complete with everything, excluding the Kool-aid.

So how does one eradicate Trumpism? Is Trumpism a new thing? Or just some that has a new face? How does it differ from Nationalism?

I have never seen nationalism storm the steps of congress and break out the windows and force the national guard in to protect congress. So thats one way it differs.

Maybe it is because I am LDS but it has been amazing how loyal people are to this guy... nothing seems to phase the Trump supporters I know. Nothing makes people turn completely from him. No one seems to see the irreparable damage he has done to the Republican party. Those that stood with him the longest now have turned on him and the Trumpers will bury them and continue on.

How the **** did this happen... i feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

That doesnt really answer my question.

I see a bunch of racist/nationalist people who found a leader. Eliminating the leader doesnt really change it. So we can "defeat" Trumpism, but it's still going to exist. This has existed since 1776. America is and has always been racist. Is it really a coincidence that a black man winning Georgia was the straw that broke the camel's back?

Though generally misguided imo, I'd say Nationalism shows empathy to the fellow Nationals (though often winds up trying to exclude folks from that in group). Trumpism has very little of that same empathy and is more of an angry lashing out at general authority structures. Kinda like teenage 'anarchists'.

But it is Nationalism though, is it not? They are trying to protect America as they see it (which in their eyes is the Confederacy). Because that's what America still is to it's core. It's still an incredibly racist nation held together by racist systems. A black man overtaking the senate in the favor of the Dems is what broke them.

I just hate pushing the idea that once Trump is gone "Trumpism" isnt going to be a thing. It's going to be a thing until we overthrow the system of racism that exist in America. Joe Biden isnt stopping Trumpism. America has to move towards true populism/socialism.

Oh no, Trumpism will still be there, I have no doubts. But I do think it's worth distinguishing as at least a subtype of nationalism.

A sort of nationalism that refuses to see anyone other than ones self as part of the nation.

Red's post was also pretty good, the complete disregard of any sort of 'expert' figure is built in as well and a key factor, though I don't fully understand how (the trope of only idiots being dumb enough to buy it doesn't fully explain it).
 
At the end of the day Trumpism and the Republican party share the same core value: Racism.

It's what gets republican's elected. So they will always be tied to Trumpism.
