So at the gym this morning i saw on Fox news that the GOP slogan for next election might be "uncancel America". Interesting.
Also from what I have seen it seems highly likely that Trump will be the candidate again in 2024. Which is really weird.
I mean basically all Trumpers would vote for whoever is the republican candidate whether trump or not.
But if it's not trump then maybe they get some of the staunch repubs that hate trump (like my dad for instance) to vote for the republican. They also could possibly get my vote and others like me.
If trump is not involved then it's pretty likely that myself and my wife dont even vote. If trump is running then I auto vote for the Democrat and so does my wife and my dad would vote 3rd party or not vote at all.
Trump just lost the election, lost the senate and lost the house and got impeached twice and lost a million court battles and helped get the white house attacked.
Pretty bold strategy. And by bold, I mean stupid.

Also, when I'm at the gym there is one tv that is always on CNN and one always on Fox. I mostly don't pay attention to the tvs but occasionally I watch a bit. Is interesting to note the differences in the programming.
CNN typically has news stories on. Today they were talking about things like the pandemic, schools reopening, cabinet picks getting blocked, **** going on in Iran and Saudi Arabia etc.
Fox news typically has panels of news celebrities and also B-list celebrities giving their opinions.
Today they had some b list celebrities (only one I recognized was Kevin sorbo from Hercules and there was some vaguely familiar country singer) complaining about how the left is always attacking them for things they say and do. FOX often discusses trump, generally favorably. They often talk about how the left is destroying the country. Rarely do they seem to discuss actual factual current news. Kinda interesting.

Mostly I just listen to Pandora and if I'm watching TV it's sports center but when I do squats the FOX tv is right in front of me and when I do deadlifts the CNN tv is right in front of me so I do watch a little bit of both. Have to read the subtitles to know what they are saying.

I’m genuinely interested in those like @Douchebag K who are critical of our president, what your age is and what you know about past presidents? Which, presidents in your opinion, have been good public speakers? Why is this important to you? Does it matter more if a refiner is a good public speaker vs able to lead?

Why I ask is that historically some of our best presidents, were not great public speakers. Take forever sample those on Rushmore. Three out of four were known to be less than stellar public speakers. One in particular was known far better for his Ability to write than to speak. Some of the best presidents of the 20th century were known for being poor public speakers, Teddy Roosevelt, and Eisenhower.

Just look at the leader of democracy and how she speaks. Merkel won’t ever win anyone over for being a dynamic speaker. Yet, she’s going to go down as one of the best leaders for democracy of all time.

So I think we need to be careful when we criticize. Expand your horizon here.

Typically rise. But take into account we’re just a few weeks from losing 4,000 people a day to the virus, this is probably expected.

All the more need for covid relief, right? And it makes sense to increase min wage too, in order to incentivize work.

Certainly an indictment on the past administration’s handling of the pandemic. The issue has always been the virus. We ignored it for one year, promising that it would go away by Easter, and that Lysol injections would fix it, all to our own detriment.

Relief is fine, extended unemployment benefits are in place until September with the weekly $400 booster. Perhaps some targeted relief to those who fell through the cracks. Personal savings at an all time high. It's manifesting itself in the forms of bloated housing prices, kiddie reddit investors, etc

I don't think a list celebrities and b list celebrities have different views from each other necessarily. I think there are lots and lots of views within each of those large groups of people, some the same and some different.

You think that all A list celebrities think the exact same way and all b list celebrities think the exact same way but different from each other?

How are the savings distributed? We still need major covid relief even If 1 percent of the population owns the vast majority of savings, right? I’ve also read that average debt per consumer is at an time highs. Credit cards, not mortgages or student loads the greatest source of debt. That makes sense, as people are living off credit cards due to inadequate salaries, government aid, and lost jobs

And speaking as someone who’s married to a commercial banker in Utah, a state not too majorly hit by covid, many local businesses in a aren’t sitting on savings. They’re in desperate need of stimulus money.

Could you cut to the chase? You seem to be grasping at reasons why the covid relief bill shouldn’t be passed. What would be your solution to an economy facing its greatest crisis since the Great Depression?

I’m just curious for those of you who think the covid relief should be smaller and more focused, Think Fox News and Mitch McConnell would allow 10 Republican senators to vote for it if it were $1.5 trillion instead of $1.9 trillion? What about $700 billion? Think Fox News and Mitch would allow that? If Mitt, Susan, and Lisa support a relief bill, who are the remaining Repubs who’ll trade sides and help Democrats pass covid relief? I want specific names.

Remember, getting Mitt, Susan, and Lisa doesn’t get you close to 60. You’ll still need several more.

My understanding that this bill can be passed with a simple majority. That's part of the reason they dropped the min wage portion.

Can't bail out everyone, Americans are notorious for living beyond their means. Yes some might have to sell that brand new Ford F-350 and downgrade a little. Sorry?
The minimum wage hike needs to be cut out and changed to a temporary increase for front line workers. All unidentified slush fund parts need to be cut out. That's a starting point for a passable bill.

TBH I'm not sure establishment Dems are really for it either. They look like the good guy passing it in the house knowing the Senate will shoot it down. The only ones really for it are progressives, who have no concept of economics. "The squad" has become increasingly critical of Biden and establishment Dems as of late. They played nice together beating up on Trump, but now we are going to see some big infighting as the groups reveal their true colors (wall street bought and paid for vs pure socialism).

They can under reconciliation.

So why would they waste time undermining their own piece of legislation to pander to 2-3 Republicans? It’ll help fewer people.

The reason why I ask is I’ve seen recently criticism that Democrats need to “reach across the aisle.” As if Republicans are good faith negotiators just waiting for Biden to work with them. As if a skinny version of covid would help the same amount of people as the current one.

Would a paired down covid relief Bill attract Republicans? I doubt it. So why pass a weaker bill with 50 Democrats and maybe 1-3 Republicans when you could pass a much stronger bill that will help more people with 50 Democrats?

At the end of the day, Republicans are using the power of obstruction in the Senate hoping to claw their way back into power in 2022. The country be damned. The senate actually incentivizes obstructionism. It decreases the need for the minority party to work with the majority party. All Republicans have to do is maintain ranks, obstruct everything, and hope they can pick off 1 Democrat to sink Biden’s presidency. It’s infuriating and not how our democracy is supposed to function. No democracy can function when all one party cares about is regaining power.

From what I gather, covid relief is based on your household income, not on the type of truck you own. Do you have evidence to the contrary?

It just passed in the House, with only two Democrats opposing. Biden is as establishment as one can be and this is the bill he wanted. I don’t understand where you’re getting the idea that “establishment Dems” aren’t supportive of it.

The Democratic party is the big tent party. Shouldn’t there be debate as to which policies it wants to pass? Especially when those policies are very popular among voters? Should they not care what the majority of voters think?

Would you rather they throw away the platform and just pass whatever their leader wants? Become a cult of personality? I like having disagreements and debates within our party. I don’t want to be in a cult
