Trade deadline discussion

Can you give us examples from the times you've been on the other side of the table from DL during negotiations?
I mean look at some of the deals he’s handed out over the years... several overpays. In some of the trades where we are not negotiating against a lot of suitors he gives the kitchen sink to get a deal done. Every player we signed this offseason got a player option. If we got a discount on any of those that’s okay to give an option but we were paying full sticker. Player options suck... only downside on those.

There has just been too many deals where he gives 25-30% more than he should have to when compared with other deals.

Good question. Why not asking the Knicks, Pistons, Cavs GMs about it yourself? I wanna know every bit the details regarding deals on Tucker, Bradley and our 23rd pick, then get back to me when you find out. Thanks!

Murmurs in Orlando are saying that Otto Porter is staying with them rather than seeking a buyout.
You’re just seeing negotiating tactics at this point. The parties have barely shaken hands. And nothing about Orlando right now says, “Yeah, you definitely want to be here.”

Backup centers who can play decent basketball are rare.
Yes backup centers who play decent basketball are rare.

And anyone who watch Jazz ball will tell you that Favors isn't one of them. He's been rather underwhelming thus far and only reason it hasn't hurt the Jazz was because he played very few minutes. And our offensive/defensive ratings have been dreadful with him on the floor compared to Rudy.

Advance metrics also give him a Real plus minus of -1.78, good for 55th in the league amongst all centers, tied with Demarcus Cousins who got cut from the Rockets for his...... general awfulness?

He will assess the situation... if he can get out of his deal without giving back too much I think he will have his pick of many different good situations. If he says he's definitely seeking a buyout they may dig in for mo money. Slow play it a little.

This was our opportunity to swing for the fences, we just have too many glaring weaknesses without any upgrades. Our window of opportunity with the older players are slowly closing

Bruh we got Matty Ice... we gonna run all small shooting guards... it gonna be lit AF.

The Jazz are a team with a bunch of good players, but could really stand to consolidate a few of them into a great player. Historically, they've been a pretty conservative franchise though. They tend not to rock the boat. I don't see some obvious opportunity that they missed out on. There wasn't a great player on the market worth disrupting the status quo for. I'm sure there was interest around the league for Royce, but the return might not have been good enough to justify moving him.

Ultimately the Jazz should be looking for a dynamic, two-way wing to play between Mitchell and Gobert. Until then, we have our usual assortment of Ingles, Royce and Bogdanovic, which isn't bad.

Jazz are going to do their thing, play the analytics game and expect Mitchell and Gobert to make big plays to close games.

I think the Jazz would have needed to offer Bogdanovic, Royce O'Neale and a pick to Orlando to take back Aaron Gordon and another player (e.g., Aminu or Ross).

Wouldn't have been worth it unless you're totally sold on Aaron Gordon.

There are maybe ten other centers in the NBA who would not have a dreadful comparison with Gobert, and I don't think it's even that many. We don't get a Gobert to back up Gobert. Who in the league gets a positive Real Plus/Minus with Gobert on the other side of that?

Favors has a 20 PER and a .246 WS/48. We can play the same defense with him on the court as with Gobert, and it's not terrible. If he's so terrible, who's a better back-up in the league?

There was no deal today that made me think "we could/should have done that". The Thomas trade is fine... hopefully we get some buyout love but I'm 90% sure this is our team.

I wish we could’ve snagged Theis. He would’ve helped load manage Favors and Rudy during this stretch run and could’ve been a nice ingredient against Denver and the Lakers.

I really like the Theis trade. We could have done it for our exception and saved Boston all $5 million of his salary.

Sure we would have Theis and Favors to back up Rudy, but could have been really good value. He offers something different than Faves.

You should have gotten Austin Rivers. With him you would have definitely won your first Championship. Now....you won't even make it past the second round.

I told you Rivers was sure to be traded. You could have had him. Poor guy is now going to waste the year away in OKC.
