Game Thread May 23, 2021 07:30PM MT: Jazz vs. Grizzlies - Game 1

Added to Calendar: 05-23-21

I think the scary part about Game 2 is all the pressure is on us. Memphis took it to us in Game 1, and now already has HC advantage.
If we come out tight again it could be a disaster. They can play with confidence and an edge knowing they already stole a road game.

Lets hope Don will play and spark this team. So far my fears about this roster have been right.

Been saying it for a long time. He is a weak spot, and either has to be replaced, or have his role changed.

Yes you have and so have I. His weaknesses are so glaring. He’s really not that good of a defender. Couple that with his offensive woes and it’s really tough to watch. I’m glad he rebounds though.

I love how I hurt your feelings soooooooooo bad last summer by agreeing with the Jazz's FO's decision that you still carry this grudge nearly 1 year after the fact. Even after I have stated in at least 3 separate threads that both I and the Jazz were wrong. Drafting Dok instead of a wing defender like Bane was a mistake. And yet in one more thread you're bringing this up. I'll be honest, I'll probably again at some point this offseason bemoan the fact that our perimeter defense needs improvement, are you again going to attack me for not knowing everything that would happen in 2021 in 2020?

They knew Favors was coming? How do you know this? If they did then drafting Dok was an even bigger mistake.

I scoffed and mocked you?

LOL

How old are you and how many other message boards do you post on? Just curious.

If it makes you feel any better, I'll say it again, the Jazz were wrong to draft Dok. I was wrong to support their logic in drafting Dok. I should've known that they were signing Favors. I bow to your superior intellect and foresight. You should be the Jazz's GM. Now may I post criticisms of our perimeter defense or no? I ask you great lord for permission, shall you give it to me oh please dear lord of draftiness knowledge?
Look its fine to be wrong... its even fine to be loud wrong (as you were)... if you want to be loud wrong and then meander over to the side of the argument that was right... well then I'm calling your ********.

This is the only board I post on. I'm old enough to argue facts and not get juvenile.

You can post criticisms of our perimeter defense but if you are going to criticize a move you cheered at the time I'm sorry I'll call that out. Its easy to say "that was a bad move" after seeing it.

It isn't just you but I get a little sick of all the folks on this board that dismiss anyone that dare challenge a front office move and would rather boot lick than have original thought. Sooooo many times I hear "Right you know so much better than the front office....pfffttttt." When I have called my shot at the time and been right where they have been wrong. So yeah when it turns out that I was deadass right again and it comes back to hurt us in the playoffs I will take a few victory laps over posters who were very loud with their dismissals.

He does some thing well. And he's not a horrible defender. I've seen him have great games, and moments. Overall though he's just given the role as our
lock down defender(as well a a ton of playing time), and he's not that at all.

Love his passing, and rebounds, but in the end you have you ask yourself one simple question. Is he good enough to get the job done? I don't think he is.

What drives me crazy and I am sure all of you feel the same too. Is the intensity we show when we try to fight back at the end of games isn’t there to begin games.

The one thing I've been preaching is watch what he does when it matters most. I thought he was awful in the Denver series last year. Last night I thought he
was pretty bad too.

If we want a title we're going to have to make some tough decisions this offseason. But I feel like Royce has imbedded himself in
our team because of his friendship to Donovan.

We didn't even elicit a mention in NBA Insider wrap up of Game 1s. Maybe because we were the late game and deadlines, or is it just another case of no one cares about the Jazz? Kind of glad that game flew under the radar.

That's clearly not what the facts say. This is at least the 4th time you've brought this up. It seems pretty juvenile to keep bringing up how, "wrong I was on draft night" especially when I've already admitted such. It honestly is getting a bit tiresome to sift through game threads with you regurgitating the same "I told you so" stuff from draft night. Especially during a frustrating game like last night.

At the end of the day, we're all fans and want to see our team succeed. Right? Like I'll happily admit that we should've drafted Bane and see us win the chip than be right about the drafting of Doka and see us lose in the first round.

Then take it up with those posters or just chalk it up to being on a message board. But acting juvenile about this by continuously bringing up draft night is just silly. It tells me that you're not used to being correct and are desperate for attention. Prove me wrong by letting it go from here on out.

Have you applied to work for the Jazz? Perhaps you should? Maybe if they had done what you wanted on draft night we'd be in a better position right now?

So we drafted him to be third string but he ended up fourth string? Not sure what point you’re trying to make here?

Honestly, Ingles and Bogey are a bit redundant. We should have turned one of them into the perimeter defender we needed.

Or you know, picked up Torrey Craig for free. I can’t fathom who thought it’d be a good idea to spend a pick on Matt Thomas. The move made no sense.
Obviously I was saying we drafted him to be third string center (which is stupid) not 4th or 5th like you insinuated.
I doubt we even pick up ersan if Dok never gets hurt.
Also probably drafted Dok to be the 2nd string center when favors leaves.

Btw I thought and still think it was a stupid pick. Just pointing out that the jazz weren't like hey let's use our 1st round pick on a 4th or 5th string center like you seemed to be trying to make it sound.

The overconfidence on this site is astounding. We are arguably without our best player. Did we think the Grizz were just gonna bow down to the almighty Jazz? If I’m the Grizz, I’m going for the throat next game. Same ****. Be physical as hell with us. Push us around. Get in our heads. All the pressure’s on us and they know that and we know that. We’re soft.

Well, I mean we had our 2nd worst shooting game of the entire season and still had a very good chance to win.

Imagine if Jazz down 0-1 to Warriors.

Feeling better?

But if you're the Grizz you're paying with House money. Game 2 is a must win for us. And now we need to steal one from their home court which will be a difficult task, especially if Mitchell isn't playing or isn't near 100 percent.

Tell me how this is a technical:

and this is not:

Tell me how this is NOT a flagrant:

and Bojan contact was..
Same with Rudy loose ball foul. JV did the same at least 2 times with no call.

I have not seen any of the post game interviews, but somebody has to be vocal about it. Let the fines come, Jazz as an organization is just too passive with NBA BS.

We obviously lost because we've played like ****, we have to own that and improve. We could have won this game and can will this series even with this type of officiating, but next round we need it to be fair, so it's time to complain a bit.

I thought we signed Bogey to be the stretch 4 and Ingles was going to be the point small forward? Wasn't the whole point of ridding ourself of Favors and signing Bogey to provide more space and shooting because Ingles wasn't enough?
I mean the first choice was Mirotic, a true stretch 4. Bogey is really a 3. Bogey was the backup plan because he wasn’t as good a fit positionally.

I haven’t applied no... lol. I have to make a lot more than an entry level nba guy to support my family. Also one small voice does not change a decision like that.

I’ll drop it on this one... I want is to win too... that is why when I see us making mistakes (even if they are small) I get frustrated. My opinion on the front office is they tend to get the big things mostly right... but they’ve been sloppy on the edges at times and are too conservative imo. I think they are good but not the best. I have no problem criticizing them when I think they are wrong and giving them a pat on the back when they are right... I certainly don’t want them to be wrong... I’d rather eat crow.
