NBA- Well deserved. At this point Gobert has to be a HOF lock, happy for him
Raptors- Never truly paid that close attention to his game. But now that they're in the playoffs it's a joy to watch..he and the Jazz team fit so well. Mitchell is on another planet during these times it seems. I hope he doesn't burn out. Gorbet deserves the DPOY award.
Raptors- Gobert took all his **** personally
NBA- Best help defender in the league. Literally absurd how much he clogs the paint for Utah.
Celtics- I don’t think I’ve ever seen ‘clogs the paint’ used in a positive way until now but you’re bloody right!
Bucks- There might be more for him.
Gobert joins Dwight Howard as the only two players to win 3 DPOYs before the age of 30
Warriors- Yeah, the timing of the award could not have come after a better game. Absolute media classic moment to present the award.
Mavs- Especially when most of the people disagreeing with Gobert winning are basing it off the “fact” that he can’t guard the perimeter. Y’all looking like clowns right now.
Celtics- Yes. He very easily could end his career as the best defensive player ever. He is just so much better than everyone at defense numbers wise it’s insane.
Raptors- Rudy Gobert is gonna be a hall of famer and Shaq is gonna lose it
Spurs- Best Player on the best team in the regular season
Pistons- Like clockwork. ****er is an insane defender
Heat- If I was Ben I’d be happy I stole that many votes
Nicks- Congrats to a well deserved DPOY.
Is someone checking on Shaq to make sure he’s okay?
Bucks- Deservedly, I don’t think it as really a close race in my eyes. I know Ben is a lock down perimeter defender but people barely go under free throw line against gobert. Every shot defended by him is a prayer.
Raptors- 2 years in a row he shuts down the NBA
NBA- Anyone who thinks Simmons was robbed is brain dead
NBA- Nice, this confirms Ben Simmons is the Rookie of the Year, again.
76ers- Somebody tell me they dead *** have watched both Gobert and Simmons play a game this season and tell me the eye test doesn't tell you Ben was a better more impactful defender
NBA- 10000% doesn’t deserve this when he got dominated by every star he faces.
Suns- People always clamor how (rightfully) CP3 can have 9 pts 8 assists and be the best player on the floor but somehow act like Rudy is **** if he has 5 pts 10 rebs 2 blks.
This man is leading the advanced stat of "This slasher noped the **** out of driving because Rudy"
My friend who is a huge Jazz fan basically made an argument by making me watch 5 LeBron games vs. other teams then made me watch a Cavs vs. Jazz game with him (this was in Rudy's 1st DPOY) and every time LeBron literally hesitated or noped out of driving to the rim after losing his man on the perimeter he would stand up and just say LOOK, BITCH DOES THE KING REGULARLY BACK OUT LIKE THAT
Ever since then, every time I catch a Jazz game I always focus on how opponents attack with vs. without Rudy on the floor then compare it to how those players play vs. other teams
Warriors- I've never really understood the Gobert hate. He may be a doofy person but damn, stifle tower on your team changes the game big time.
Raptors- The thing that people don't realize about rudy, is that he's not also important to their defense, he's also incredibly important to their offense as well. He was drafted as a defensive stud who was a nothing on O, to an good player on that end, he sets great screens and is a great rim runner (there is a reason he leads the league in dunks). People laughed at his contract, while he's the MVP of the best record in the league.
Warriors- Can't get blocked shots if no one ever drives against you.
Suns- Why are people so pissed off by this? Rudy was the obvious choice.
Lakers- **** it, I want the Jazz to win it all.
NBA- Remember how close this race was supposed to be? I’d be floored if Ben Simmons got more than a couple first place votes.
Nuggets- Should’ve been unanimous. No one else had a compelling case
Heat- I said not a while ago that gobert wouldn't win a DPOY against prime kg/ben/duncan but you know what.. I stand corrected. I didn't watch enough jazz games lol dude can defend
Mavs- Rudy is on his way to an all time great defender status if not already there. Hall of fame bound.
NBA- Welp Rudy gobert officially takes the cake from Derrick rose as the most overrated player of all time
Lakers- People say he’s overrated. But please, before y’all parrot that take watch a bigtime slasher or player who likes those 10ft jumpers play against an average big, and then watch them play him.
He makes guys like Kawhi and Lebron run into and out of the paint like Nash and CP3 do. It’s comical sometimes. They’ll literally run, get within 3 feet of the rim, and run out of the ****ing paint.
Just like the threat of Curry sniping wild 3s makes defenses scared even when he has his hands on his knees, the threat of Gobert erasing or heavily contesting a shot makes slashers avoid the paint sometimes.
Nets- Gobert Is a Historic player. Should all appreciate this unique defensive master
And to think Shaq said he is overrated
Raptors- I mentioned this before about Rudy. It's like in football where QBs just don't even bother throwing at the side of the field covered by elite corners.
Lakers- Damn, reading this I just realized that the Jazz are the new Spurs. Ball movement, smart playmaking, elite defense and balanced offense.
NBA- The most boring player in the league on the most boring team in the league
NBA- Rudy is the only player I’ve seen or heard of who blocked Jokic’s hook shot.
Clippers- He's averaged 15/game on mid to high 60s% for years now. If that was easy to do more guys would do it.
Clippers- Thinking Basketball did a piece on Marcus Smart where he argued that even though he's the best perimeter defender in the league he's not as valuable as elite rim protectors.
Celtics- Jazz defense is also built to get you go one on one with Rudy to combat you just avoiding him. He’s insanely great while being constantly challenged.
76ers- Come on lol that's not fair, Ben forces teams to change how they play, locks up great offensive players, and has a huge defensive impact. Nobody is making a sympathy case for him, he has a very solid case for DPOY
NBA- There wasn't much competition to begin with. This league is baby soft if this is the best they can do.
Lakers- Well deserved and just shows this guys dominance defensively. The center spot is the most critical position for defense, so if you’re dominating at historic levels....no complaints.
Raptors- It isn’t a debate. Gobert is their best player. Mitchell is their best scorer
76ers- Baguette Biyombo tricks the voters once again
NBA- What ****ing ********. Thybulle and Simmons are better defenders
Trailblazers- Is that like a Gelato and sorbet combo? Sounds nice. Rudy Gorbet should be considered lucky to be named after such a refreshing and delicious dessert.
Spurs- I like Rudy Gobert. Good for him.
Reading that he’s won this three times, I still can’t believe that Tim Duncan never won it once.
Raptors- we’ve seen this play out before though. you can replace mitchell with hayward and they’re at roughly the same place. replace gobert with your typical center and they’re at the bottom of the bracket
Lakers- Def DPOY after last night
Raptors- simmons has the right to believe that he should be dpoy but idk why fans gave that a serious thought
76ers- It's one of those things that you just have to watch to truly appreciate what simmons does on defense. It's not gonna show up in the box score as much as what gobert does.
Raptors- He makes one block!!!.... SMH
Knicks- The only thing stopping Ntilikina from getting it was media exposure, small team bias, minutes, and defensive ability smh
76ers- Simmons in shambles
Timberwolves- The defensive numbers from him were INSANE this season
76ers- If he didn’t win it this year I don’t think he will at all tbh. Rudy will be a force and I’m not mad that he won; he’s the definition of a defensive anchor. However, with Embiid and Thybulle, we have amazing defenders that can play alongside Ben, so we’re not reliant on him like the Jazz are reliant on Rudy.
Nets- Centers/rim protectors have more impact than wing defenders and next year won'tchange that. Even in their last game where Ben got a lot of praised on defense, it was Embiid who enabled Ben to play that aggressive on Trae. Embiid was there to prevent easy lobs/floaters whenever Trae got past Ben/Tisse.
If Embiid decides to roleplay as Ben next year focusing only on defense and not caring about scoring, he'd win DPOY for sure.
Timberwolves- Thoroughly deserved
Mavs- Crazy that last year he was public enemy number 1 after COVID cancelled the season to now him winning DPOY and him Mitchell leading the jazz to the 1 seed. What a difference a year makes.
Bucks- Mitchell is the go to bucket but the offense is good enough to win games without him. Gobert makes the team work with the defense and the paint presence on offense. They are worse with Mitchell and no Gobert then with Gobert and no Mitchell.
76ers- There's alot of donovan Mitchell's in the league. The same can't be said about gobert.
Warriors- I did not expect Ingles to have a British accent lol.
Cavs- He's Australian.
Australia- I saw a Last Week Tonight episode that indirectly credited Rudy with getting people to take covid seriously. Before the NBA cancelled the season it was just considered to be the flu, Rudy acting like a tool then a bunch of people in the Jazz catching it made people realise that it was kind of a big deal.
Lakers- It's not even indirectly. He is directly responsible for saving thousands of lives at the least. The NBA was a huge domino that pushed everything else into closing down shortly after. Rudy made covid real in America, without him, action may have taken even longer than it did, and lives would have been lost.
His dumb *** joke was actually a life saver.
Pistons- I'm so happy for him. I'm.cherring for Utah to win the championship.
Warriors- So glad the NBA moved away from the award ceremony. This feels much more genuine
Warriors- Gobert: "Wouldn't be here without you guys"
Ingles: "We know"
Suns- Man DPoY and 6th Man.
Then you got Mountain Mike, Spida, Bojingles, American Psycoach
Stacked.
Trilblazears- I saw someone earlier this season refer to the dpoy award as the Rudy award and that’s what it is at this point. Congrats to him! Keep putting that whoopin on the clippers please
Thunder- I will now read "Very well deserved" with Joe's voice from now on. Done it with JC and now to Gobert
Hornets- fkn struth ol mate jingles, nah yeah, he's fair dinkum. I'd take him to the bottle o and punch a few darts at the local servo any day he looks like he'd a rock a mean accadacca choon despite looking like a real dag ay.
Thunder - Dort robbed
NBA- Simmons Is the real DPOY
Pacers- Thought Myles would get more than 3 3rd place votes, but oh well. He did miss a fair few games
Warriors- Not even 1 first-place vote for Draymond? damn. Second half of the season, warriors' defense was crazy, in large part due to Draymond.
Cavs- Nobody is talking about the Anthony Davis snub?
Grizzlies- Dillon Brooks was not robbed, but I would like to pretend he was robbed.
NBA- Gobert now with as many DPOYs as Hakeem & KG combined. What a league.
Suns- Mikal Bridges and DeAndre Ayton both not getting a single vote is a goddamn travesty. I'm more upset about that than I am Monty not winning COTY.
Spurs- Gobert clearly deserves it but Ben getting closer.
Timberwolves- The **** voted for kcp
