Dame wants out of Portland?

Yeah this one got weird quick. Portland hired Billups, it was made to look like Dame approved of Billups, which I think he did but they neglected to tell him about Billups prior issues and Dame took a lot of backlash all around for backing Billups hiring. Even Haynes report doesn’t say he will ask out, it just says he might. There was another report mentioning other stars have been trying to get him to leave for weeks but that Dame was resistant to that, but the coach thing has definitely frustrated him. Honestly the next CBA may become interesting, because owners aren’t going to let contracts be meaningless entirely.
If you want to read a crapstorm go the Oregon Live website and John Conzano's column about the GM and Dame doing a power play to hire a rapist as head coach. Dame is probably going peace out, I'm going to greener pastures. .

I had never heard about Billups prior issues... anyone want to spare me the internet deep dive?

He and another Celtics players were accused of rape Billup's rookie year and while no criminal charges were filed Billups entered into an agreement with the victim to settle a civil suit over his actions.

A big reason I’m glad Ryan Smith bought the Jazz is because I think he gets how to treat players. He’s been great and supportive of off the court stuff, and with Donovan specifically it seems like Smith is trying to give Donovan anything he wants. Having a power struggle with your star player isn’t smart. Smith has allowed Donovan personal staff to be at our sidelines, he’s brought in Wade, he’s doing everything possible to make Donovan happy. I don’t know if it’ll work, but I think our ownership is important and knows backing stars is smartest for the success of your franchise. What a mess for Portland with a guy who was super committed to staying there, and still may who knows.

I’m still stuck here. In the 113 weather too

Haha yeah we were glad weren’t there for that. We thought we came to the PNW to get away from the heat. Luckily we were on the coast and it was still cool relative to Utah.

I’ve lived here for the past few years, never experienced anything close to this kind of heat. Super freaky

It's funny how the Lakers, their fans and even the sports media always think the Lakers can get anyone with their trash. lol If Portland wanted to trade Dame, they would want a allstar/great potential player in return.

The strange thing about this Billups situation is this happened in his rookie year and the NBA and media seemed to ignore it because Billups has always been held up as one of the good guys and well respected players when he went to Detroit. DL situation changed after reporters and social media trolls started attacking DL for his so called backing of the coaching hire. So Jazz fans remember this can have an impact on a player wanting out. DL probably feels betrayed by his fans for bashing him after he has been loyal to the city and team. It does no good for the Jazz to give up three important components of the team if the main reason DL wants out is he feels Portland has no chance at a championship. The Jazz would not be contenders if they got rid of JC/Bogie /Ingles plus give up 4 first round picks.

It’s true, and it’s stupid, but it does impact things. On a real note I think we’ve actually crossed that bridge already though tbh. Mitchell’s opinion of the fanbase changed about a year ago due to backlash in his comment section, and it’s been pretty clear he hasn’t felt the same way since. “I love Utah” whether PR or truth, has completely been lost from his vocabulary. Outside JazzFanz, don’t be a moron on social media to guys. Here I don’t mind being a moron lol. But I do think last years social media comments have cause Mitchell to take a step back from this community and fanbase, it just hasn’t been the same and it’s been palatably different, he can’t even bring himself to “PR” it anymore. Sure it’s an everywhere thing, but you react to what’s in front of you. And when your own fans are attacking you, and every other fanbase for the moment is photoshopping you in their jersey, I get how it probably irrationally sways your thought process. For us, it doesn’t help that the reputation already exists and any occurrence of those issues perpetuates the narrative and issue and gives everyone a stick to beat us with as a fanbase.

Honestly this makes me sad about Dame. This is all him using a planned exit. It was reported by Chris Haynes a few weeks ago he was super involved in the hiring process. It was reported he was in one of the zoom interviews with Billups. It was reported by Haynes that Dames top 2 choices were Kidd and Billups. Dame is trying to use a bad moment that he helped create as a way to try and keep his “loyalty” image in tact while pointing the finger at the organization. If you can read critically and have read the articles and have a month long memory it’s not hard to see through how ****** what Dames doing is. He can point at the organization all he wants. He was involved in the entire hiring process and gave approval, what a chicken **** way to build towards asking for a trade.

No thanks. He’ll be 31 this summer and doesn’t fit our timeline IMO. Plus Gobert would be part of a deal to get him and our defense would be mediocre at best and not good enough to win a ring.

If I am Portland, there is no way a deal gets made with Utah without Donovan included in the deal.
