Jazz Offseason Plan

But would any of you like the idea of Love replacing Bojan and Favors?

Financially, that's what it comes down to.

No... like not at all. Bojan is a better player than Love at this point and it isn't really close imo.

Sexton/Mitchell would be a better version of Lillard/McCollum and we have the greatest defender of all-time behind them. Imagine Portland with Rudy but better.

Cy is right, and what I said originally - Sexton and Don are not a good fit together.

How much would some 3rd team want Sexton and Favors OR Sexton and Bojan? That's what it would come down to.

Not really. Both are aging and declining but Love is the better rebounder and would immediately replace Royce as our second best rebounder on the team. He can also play the small ball five which we were lacking.

Bojan is only six months younger than Love and his numbers are down from last season. We should look to trade him this offseason before his value goes down any further.

It's an interesting debate for sure. I feel like Love at his best could be amazing for us. Bojan at his best didn't even win us that game where he was red hot in the first half.

For me, it comes down to buying Love low and selling Bojan high. If we could get assets plus Love for Favors and Bojan, I feel like we gotta consider it.

I used to think “do anything to get rid of Fav” was a necessity this offseason. But that was recency bias. On reflection, yes, his contract was a mistake, but no way in hell do I double down on that mistake and give up any of our limited assets to move him.

If someone will take him into space for nothing, or even return a marginal asset or player of equal value that helps us more in a position of greater need (i.e., DJJ) then sure, move him.

But I am nearly 100% certain we can rehab Favs rep, and that he will be a serviceable backup center for us if we just add some perimeter defense. The level at which Fav got cooked against the Clips was more a function of bad perimeter D than Fav being bad or cooked.

TL;DR, we shouldn’t burn a draft asset just to sell low on Fav, but if a deal is there that doesn’t require us to do that, then sure, move ‘em.

Who I am really interested in moving is Bogey. He is certainly worth his contract, but it’s a big’un and one we should try to get off.

I mean the guy did have a wrist surgery he was coming back from. Love is perpetually injured. Bojan still moves well. I'm not saying Bojan is untouchable. I'm saying if you trade Bogey don't trade him for a guy that has worse concerns and a more onerous contract.

We are looking at his deal as "dead money" it isn't that at all. I think his contract is 50% too much... if we trade him as a dead contract that is selling low and a problem. If we are able to get something different and plug in Udoka and be okay then we are good.

I am also working under the assumption that we wouldn't retain Mike, Bojan, JC, and use the taxpayer MLE to improve. That might be incorrect. The tax is enormous but maybe Ryan is itching to whip out his ****** and say "I'll spend with the best of em". If he's willing to pay then don't sell low on favs.

Tony Jones in his most recent article suggested Favs and Udoka might split some time this year... will help Udoka get some PT and keep Favs fresh. I'd support this approach but I thought we could do something similar with the other prospects we had on our roster last year and Quin didn't do it really.

It just kinda sucks that DL overpaid for a backup center who really can't be an every night option because of health. I think we will have some options to move Favs but we may have to be patient. Charlotte strikes out with their cap space I could see them wanting Favs pretty badly. Sacramento loses Holmes then they need to plug the middle. There are some moving parts to this but I don't think we need to panic and pay a premium to move him.

Yeah. I'd only trade Bogey for Love if there are some serious draft picks involved.

He reportedly did not look great in the first exhibition. I would take a chance on him as a buyout guy all day. I will not give up Bojan for him though... no way.
Yeah, the more I look at it, the more I don't like it. I'm intrigued wih Love being here if he comes with assets, but losing Bojan in the process is kind of harsh. The numbers alone make it kind of prohibitive:

Love contract $31.3
Osman contract $8
Sexton contract $6.4

Bojan contract $18.7
Favors contract $9.7
Thomas contract $1.8
Oni contract $1.8
Hughes contract $1.5
TOTAL - $33.5

I mean, if we made a deal that found a 3rd team for Bojan who brought back something we liked, that could make sense. But that's a lot of money to make up for even if we use guys like Thomas, Oni and Hughes as "make-weights".

Rebounds per game can also be a pretty empty stat. Love would probably help but if he's on the floor as your PF in crunch time he's getting targeted.

Love is a great gamble... in a buyout situation.

I only want Kevin Love in a buyout... I'm not sure it gets there for him this year... If it does there will be a ton of competition. Both LA teams, Portland, GS would likely all be way more appealing than Utah.
