I'm not big on draft promises... but if Jared Butler wanted to be here I'd make him a promise and then tell his agent to withhold showing his medicals to other teams. I think teams tend to over-react to that stuff and there is opportunity there. MP jr. , malcolm Brogdon are some that immediately come to mind as guys with medical red flags that slipped in the draft. This is obviously different as it isn't a foot or knee or back.

I’d be on board for that, but if he’s fully cleared I would expect him to show his medicals to anyone in the hope of going as high as possible.

That would be my ideal scenario (other than Cade sliding to 30th), preferably with one (combo) guard and one wing.

Yeah. It would be too risky to do that unless his agent had absolute trust in our promise. Unless he goes in the lotto there isn't a lot of salary difference in the 30s. So its more about the situation. He'd have to like the potential situation here. I doubt he'd do it. I also doubt he slide past Denver (they need guard help with Jamal out). He'd be a guy I'd trade up a couple spots for if we had an opportunity.
 
I haven't been very invested in this draft, but I'm definitely on board with Jared Butler. Saw him play a few times over the past couple of seasons and he can really play. I think he's a better prospect than Davion Mitchell who's getting a lot of buzz at #7...but I think he did get a green room invite so #30 is not happening.

That's my draft hot take is that Butler is better than Davion.

I think Denver and Philly would take him if he slid to the 20s. He's a good analytics prospect, so Philly makes sense... Denver needs help at the guard spot until Murray gets back and he can toggle between both positions. They also are likely less afraid of the medical stuff with Butler since they have had success with Porter Jr.

Butler in Denver would make me really sad.

Jazz need to call Tillman Fertita directly and offer him $5M and #30 to move up to #24 and swipe Butler before those other teams can get him. Don't call the GM... call Tillman directly... his favorite prospect is cash considerations.
 
I think OKC likely has hopes of trading into the top 4 of the draft, but if they can't move either into the top 4 or package 16/18 for a top 10 pick that they would definitely want a draft and stash guy somewhere. If that is the case I could see them using 34/36 to make sure they get Roko... that's likely the absolute best we can hope for on draft night... that is still kinda reasonable imo.

I don't think his social media is that big a deal either way. The Utah/Minnesota Combine helped put Vrenz on the map. Initially he had only 3 team workouts scheduled. Now, he'll have done 13 individual team workouts when it's said and done.

He's also done social media stuff before all that. He got put on the map by Rafael Barlow, the guy who co-host Locked on Draft. He's done a couple interviews with him before anyone knew who he was.

There's value in it now. If you are a more fringe prospect and you can get NBA Draft Twitter and independent draft writers to look at your film, you can build up hype that can reach the mainstream writers and get the attention of NBA scouts. It's like the equivalent of the HS kids who go to small schools who send tape out to college coaches.

I wonder how many times we could pull that off. Offer a team 5 million and move up 3-6 spots. Like, could we spend 15 million and get up to 15?

Oh for sure. Just wish he had more time to focus on draft. Not a knock on him at all, he is human after all but some of the stuff feels unfocused.
 
Roko Prkacin withdrew his name. That's probably a good gamble for him. If he improves on his skills and gets a bigger role, he is a sure-fire first round prospect.

May be some teams saw him as draft and stash prospect.

Also bad for the non-homers who think that having him in the draft might help push a better prospect down to their team. So, for example, Thor jumps up to #29 from #30 on KOC's big board, and Bones moves up to #30. Highly unlikely that things will play out as KOC might prefer, but if they did, it would be bad for the Jazz, imo.
