Jazz Offseason Plan

If shooters are in such high demand, Bojan should have more value than we think.

Bojan to NY
Knox and #30 to Cleveland
Nance, #19 and #32 to Utah

Then I would offer #19 and Favors to the Lakers for Kuzma and #22. Buy low on Kuz.

With these trades, we....
- save $4 million (B&F $28.5 - N&K $23.5 + pick)
- get a stretch 5 in Nance
- get younger and more athletic
- get more depth
- get #22

So apparently Kuzma's stock is super low... was listening to the locked on Lakers guy on the general NBA pod... mentioned it was so low he was thinking of like Thompson for Kuzma just so they have a backup center.

I'm not a huge Kuzma fan... he's mediocre imo... but we are kind of in the bargain shopping mode. So eff it... lets do it.

But because of his contract he isnt a bargain.

Meh. My favorite part is he mentions its Udoka and Hughes "second" rookie season.... we doing this again? "hey we didn't draft anyone because these guys are basically draft additions this year... again."

In other news I hear Dante is primed to win the ROY this year.
Haha, I had the same reaction. “Doke and Hughes are our rookies.”

I mean, it's basically true. We never got to see either player in legit rotation minutes. If you want to get all pissy about the wording, go for it. I'm excited to see both players this year, regardless of when they were drafted.

Ain’t pissy… it’s just hilarious… I’m not sure there are many teams that make additions by keeping guys they already have but we are ****ing awesome at selling that ****… AB is our big offseason addition, Miye is our big defensive wing addition, Dante is basically in his rookie year for 6 years… lots of rookies don’t play… especially when they aren’t good. Plenty of rookies fought through the Covid season to show something last year. These guys had some injuries but even without the injuries they were going to be mothballed. This is their second year and I won’t hear anything otherwise.

I suppose this is Brantley’s rookie year and Matt Thomas gets a reset since he wasn’t on the court either.

I think he was just poking fun at the Jazz spin/messaging behind that wording. It’s just kind of a lame Dennis-ism even if the facts behind the sentiment are true.

I am excited to see if there’s anything there in Doke or Hughes. I know Doke was injured most of the year, but did Hughes impress with the Stars (I don’t pay any attention to that)?

No hughes was awful on the Stars. It was a weird G-League season. A lot of transfers from other teams, injuries, and the bubble. I dont take anything away from it personally. Hughes showed me enough in his pre-season flashes to be excited about his potential.

Unfortunately, I think the sunk cost fallacy gets us one more year of Matty Ice, but we’ve reached the end of Brantley road. He can’t be on another two way contract, and he hasn’t shown enough to earn a full roster spot.

Hughes was poopy with the stars but was hobbled coming back from an ankle injury. He had some flashes in preseason.

It's wild to me that complete cynicism is the mode of communication now on Jazzfanz among a lot of posters. People act like this team is a perpetual 8th seed with no shot at contention.

This, this I could go for.

I wonder about the end of the bench. I think the most likely scenario is we run it back with small changes and pay the luxury tax for one year.

So

Starters

Conley
Mitchell
O'Neal
Bogey
Gobert

Bench

Clarkson
Ingles
Favors

So that is our top 8.

Also under contract
Oni (partially guaranteed)
Udoka
Matt Thomas (partially guaranteed)
Hughes

So we have 12 players
Assuming we draft one player either in the 1st or 2nd round that leaves two spots

One has to be a backup point guard and one has to be wing. That could be Forrest at backup point guard again. It does look like Brantley we be finding a new team .

Huh? I think there is frustration with not being able to get over the mountain to the next level... especially with the crest in sight.

We are also headed into the offseason with fresh memories of the **** ups of last summer. If we can undo some of the damage at a low cost and find some minimum gems I think the tone changes. We are headed into a 10 day stretch that will show us where our leadership is... cynicism and optimism are totally fine with me... I'm pretty guarded after last offseason. Not everyone is excited about making moves to avoid luxury tax. The degree of difficulty with this offseason is like 2x-3x what it was last year imo. I don't have a ton of faith we nail it... but maybe we get lucky.

I would be shocked if Favors AND Bojan will both be here next year. I think that leaves a window open for Brantley depending on what we do in trades, the draft, etc. Also could mean a closed door for Thomas, Oni, etc.

The guys I expect to stay:
Rudy
Don
Conley
Joe
Royce
Doke

The guys I think will probably stay:
Hughes
Clarkson
Two of Oni, Brantley and Thomas

One or both of these will be gone:
Favors
Bojan

Not to mention 2x-3x more difficult largely because of how bad they did last year.

For Christ’s sake, it was so bad that the guy that engineered the Rudy and Donovan heists got fired. We’re not just making **** up.
