Super Committee Fails

In all honesty, my first reaction was about like this: "Wow, the Republicans and Democrats are just about as lame as the NBA players & owners."

IIRC if Congress does absolutely nothing for the next couple years the yearly deficit is pretty much fixed. It would be better if they could just find an answer for our horrendous health care system and bring the boys home but that is obviously far too big a task for elected officials. Their job is simply to point at the other guy. Done! Vacation time!

It really would seem to be a "win" for the Republicans though. All they need to do is declare a national security emergency and here comes all their Military Spending right back. They are giving up nothing and obviously are not scared of tanking the Market.

The Tea Party will destroy the Republican voting base. If they get what they want even for a little bit it won't be long at all before the disastrous consequences change the minds of a huge number of swing voters. Those guys have already ruined any ability of federal government to function.

I guess since the world ends in about a year anyways they may as well have their 15 minutes.

This.

I'm glad it failed - what good could possibly have come from it?

I've always found it interesting that the right believes that increasing military spending is intuitive because it creates jobs and any cuts whatsoever will automatically cost jobs.

However, spending in practically any other sector, jobs bills, initiatives to rebuild infrastructure, etc is useless government intervention and will lead to waste and no net creation of jobs.
