Is Dwill the smartest of the Elite Players?

Dwill is in Turkey making a couple million while Derek Fisher leads a player revolt. My question is "Is Deron Williams the smartest of the top tier players in the NBA?" Also did he have some inside knowledge due to knowing Derek "the lying *******" Fisher?

He was also one of the first players pushing for decertification from the get go and knew this whole thing was never going to get settled. Yes, I can safely say Dwill is one of the smarter players. I think it also helped that he knew Memo, so he had someone he could talk to about living in Turkey too see how him and his family would like it.

I have to say he was. I recall Skip Bayless criticizing the decision and saying that he would regret it eventually. Skip Bayless is obviously a moron. Anyway, Deron is collecting a check while other guys are doing little.

There were two groups of thought as to what DWill's motives were when he decided to play overseas. For those who thought it would become a failed ploy to gain negotiating leverage (even if he ended up playing overseas and succeeding), I think they're probably still right. For those who thought he just wanted to get the heck out of dodge before things hit the fan, actually play ball, enjoy a different country/culture with his family while getting paid a decent wage -- I think it's safe to say he definitely made the right move

he also had two former Illini teammates (Dee Brown and Warren Carter) who both had played in Turkey, so he had information from those who were not natives of Turkey to give him feedback on the idea

from all I've read on his blog and elsewhere, he really seems to be enjoying it. I think it makes a big difference that he was able to bring his family with him, and feels it's a good experience for his wife and kids.

I think he also really enjoys playing a more diminished role - I know it may not seem like that after he scored 50 points in a game, but he's mentioned how he realizes he's not "the man" and that in all likelihood (though maybe less likelihood now...) his Turkish team will be finishing their season without him - it's a different kind of a role for him than if it were an NBA team

But he's also "there" when bitter disputes are happening "here." So he isn't getting his hands dirty like a lot of other players are. He's saying to fans (or attempting to say) that all he wants to do is play basketball. He's saying to owners that he doesn't need them, he can make a lot playing basketball a few places.

Smartest player in this lockout from what I've seen...on the internet.

Skip Bayless is the king of morons.

I would be funny if he gets hurt. JR Smith got hurt in China then we will see if he is smart.

Unless he has some kind of serious injury, it won't really matter too much if he gets hurt. He will still be one of the most sought out FA on the market, and will still get the maximum amount of $$$ teams will be able to pay him under the new CBA.

He probably knew Fisher well enough that he sucks in negotiating, that's why he just decided to go on his own way

I was expecting at least one "if he was and elite player" comment. Great job, everyone.

And yes, from everything we've seen, Deron is the only player that's really known what was up and how he could make the best of his own situation. If basketball comes back this year, he will have a running start on game shape and feel for the game considering how abbreviated training camp is and that there might not even be a pre-season.

Good for him.

To be fair, I think a lot of the other elite players are content just sitting at home, resting, and playing in charity games.

This is assuming that pushing for decertification was superior than pushing for an agreement that would allow them to start earning money again.

DW overseas is making up for about 1/3 of that salary, but if he had the sense and the cojones to argue against the irrational superstars and the fee-hungry lawyers on his own side, then I would've been impressed.

I read this. Then I read it again. Then I looked at your user name. Then I gasped. I had no idea you could write such a short, concise reply.

Has he received any oversea's sponsorships? To me this is where he could make up a good chunk of money, get international exposure, and let his family experience living in another country

This topic warranted no reason to remind my gentle readers how deceptively damaging Sloan's leadership was;). [<--Post length: 16 words. Now 20. I mean 22. Now 25 ...]
