Game Thread Oct 26, 2021 08:00PM MT: Jazz vs. Nuggets

Added to Calendar: 10-26-21

The jazz and the Nuggs both bring a little something extra to their games against one another. So it can be hard for me to put much stock in the stats or other summations (especially this early in the season).

There are more ‘intangibles’ at play. Desire matters a bit more than the average game.

MPJ has not had a big game yet. He was supposed to score 25 ppg with Murray out and I believed it. Either he or Monte Morris will score 40 and I can’t explain how or why.
I’m watching Rivers too… Barton has had big outings against us.

If we lose everyone will start the “Rudy can’t do it in the playoffs” narrative. National TV gam too. We need a breakout game from the guards tonight.

Carved a pumpkin the other day. Used jazz note logos for the eyes (and my daughter wanted a heart for the nose so I obliged) and it turned out pretty good.

This would be a nice game for Donovan to show up. Seems like he's been easing into the season.
Other way around. He has been trying too hard to force himself into the season. He needs to work within the flow of the offense and stop trying to be "the man" driving through all 8 on the other team to try to force up some shot at mid-range. Or get a pass at the top of the key 30 feet out and force a 3 between 2 defenders. He needs to work within the team concept more, and stop trying to be the one-on-one guy.

I think Mitchell tends to struggle early in the season because he's trying all these crazy combo moves he worked on during the summer. It looks cool in an instagram video, but he's better off trying to find easier ways to score. Everything is on extra hard difficulty for him and a lot of that is self inflicted.

First real challenge… outside of our centers no one has really shot the ball well. I mean Joe has been good… it’s time for the sex machine to orgasm… Don, Mike, JC all break out… must win game.
Sacramento going to prove to be a harder game than the Nuggets. No Jamal Murray means they got really mediocre guard play. As long as we dont get a random Austin Rivers game this should be an easy 10+ point victory.

Uhh, he does those moves all year every year...

I'm not sure that is his struggle... just looks like he's not in a great rhythm yet. He seems to be more focused on defense right now. I am also all for him trying new stuff... especially at this time of year. Have to try and fail if you want to add new stuff to the bag. Its fine if it hurts us a bit in the regular season. I think Mitchell and Dort are also the exact type of defenders that give him issues.

We have enough proof that he can get 35-40 in the playoffs when we need it. So work on a few extra moves and do better on defense... kinda what I want out of him.

Mitchell can't see very well so it's hard to expect much from him really. He is playing much better than I expect now that I know he is blind out there.

Yeah I just think Jokic is a puzzle we can't solve well unless he shoots poorly. If Rudy ain't in the paint I worry Barton or MP Jr. could go off. Morris is capable... ****ing Austin Rivers plays well against us every time I swear.

Sure...I don't have any empirical evidence to support that's just the feeling I get. Seems like he's doing a ton of dribbling and everything is coming from an expert level moves...but I suppose that's what it looks like when he's on too.

I think he should focus more on finding easier ways to score. Transition, spot ups, off ball movement ect. Personally I think too much of his offense comes the hard way to be efficient. This way he can spend more energy on defense too. I thought his scoring distribution would change once Conley got here, but his offense has only gotten more self created. It works because he's incredibly talented, but there's another level he can reach as a scorer and finding easy baskets can get him there.

Sure, but he seems to force it more at the beginning of the year. I would definitely say his early season struggles are more related to struggling to get into a game flow rather than easing himself in.
Bruh its been two games and one of them was a complete non-contest vs the Thunder.

I mean I just see him launching a lot of long 3's. He starts off slow because "stopping" Donovan is the focal point of every defense we play. It takes a while to counter that and to move teams out of it.

Mitchell is just forcing things. He needs to just play in the flow of the offense. It might be due to his increased focus on D causing him to be just a little out of sync. He'll be fine.

The other thing I’ll throw out there that could be related to Mitchell’s slow starts is that everyone is healthy at the beginning of the year and that has not necessarily been a good thing for every individual player’s offense. We’ve seen many instances over the past few years of players taking off because other players went down.

I still think that when everyone is healthy on this team there’s some funkiness because not everyone gets the amount of touches/shots they would like.

The rest of the league will be put on notice tonight. It's gonna be a blowout, folks. Hopefully the cherry on top will be Butler getting some burn.
