What's new

Game Thread Nov 13, 2021 03:00PM MT: Jazz vs. Heat

Added to Calendar: 11-13-21

I can see why the Jazz traded for Conley. He was a near All Star-level player who was available. The other glaring problem we have is that our wing rotation of Royce, Bojan and Joe isn't all that competitive. They look good when they're knocking down shots, obviously, but they're a pretty limited trio.
Brogdan was available when Conley was on our radar. He was much more of what we needed. Conley is a good player and really nice guy and overall made us a better team, but it was largely because he was an upgrade regardless. But I think a player like Brogdan would have been much more impactful for us. And quite frankly if we could move Conley and Bogey for a player like Jeremy Grant we would be much stronger.

We knew the size and defense issues were major problems for years, before we brought in Conley. We still brought in Conley. We knew we had no one who could hang on the perimeter or stay with the big wings, but we re-signed Conley and didn't make any moves to address this. Apparently the front office doesn't think any of this is a problem. This means we have the most likeable team who are great buddies with each other, who won't get any further than the 2nd round. I just don't see us getting though the gauntlet with exactly the same teams in the way and the exact same weaknesses.
Malcolm Brogdon anyone? Would have made all the difference imo

ha! saw this after my last post. yup.

...you can't be serious brah. especially after this game. Miami exposed the fack outta him
Have you watched Brogdon?

Conley's size is an issue sometimes but he at least has defensive IQ and stays in front of his man, doesn't get back cut or forget where his man is supposed to be.

Brogdon's defensive RAPTOR stat was -1.3 last year. Conley was at +2.3.

Brogdon is more like Mitchell and Clarkson on the defensive end.

Conley is good, but he's so small that he has to really exert himself and push his body to the limits to be competitive on defense. He's probably been told not to play that hard during the regular season in order to preserve his health. Last year, he was pulling his hamstring every 5 or so games after the All Star break.
