To the AK haters

You're wrong... its obvious the Jazz should re-sign him and here's why... 1. The Jazz are way better with him in the lineup (I'm quoting Corbin on that) He is their best defender(one of the few guys in the league that can guard Durant), best passer, and best facilitator of an offense that may not change much due to the shortened preseason.2. They have a legit chance to be a playoff team with him in the lineup, without him the chances diminish considerably. As far as the notion that he will hinder the rebuilding effort, taking playing time from the kids... honestly the most damaging thing to the Jazz' future at this point would be to lose a lot of games, have a lot empty seats and lose more money. 3.AK actually helps Hayward's development by allowing him to play the 2 where he looked great at the end of year. Pairing those two together would make them long, athletic on the wings. They both shot the 3 well last year, they both can put it on the floor and pass and they both stay in front of people defensively. 4.) You can't get anyone comparable to him with a mid-level exception, no way someone like Prince comes here for that 5) He wants to come back for less than market value- how many guys have been that loyal to Utah?

I understand management may go a different direction because of his history of injury, but the positives of bringing him back far outweigh the risk and i think it would be a big mistake not to.

Losing lots of games with a young team certainly didn't hinder the Sonics's/Thunder's development.

While I"d like to make the playoffs this year, I'm thinking longer term. I'd rather develop our core of young players so they are able to make serious playoff runs in the future. I'm content to wait a bit; I want to see what the youngsters can do and whether they can develop like we all hope they can. AK is the past, time to move on and see what the future holds, even if means no playoffs this year.

I feel that all of your points are moot when ak doesn't play half the season. If ak could suck it up, he would be an asset, but What is more beneficial? Ak for half a season or an almost equally effective wing for a whole season?

It would have to be REALLY cheap. Look, the guy's ALREADY injured. How much are we willing to pay for 30 games of AK?

Unless Millsap starts at SF, it's either CJ starting at SF or AK... pick your poison... Personally, I'd rather have AK there, as he can defend better than any of the other options.
I'm secretly hoping Jeremy Evans gets a shot at some SF this year too, but prolly still a project...

He will command around 8-10 mill, so yeah, that sounds like a great way to blow the payroll.

I am thinking more like 5-7, if that. He knows how much he contributes, and at this point in his career I don't think he is too concerned with the money. And even at 5-7 I am not sure I would sign him, I am more comfortable at 3. Of course, you might be right, who knows......

After his performance in Russia I guarantee you there are at least a few teams that will think he is worth well over 5-7 mill. If we sign him for less than 8 that is a winning situation and I would approve. But really, he is going to take PT away from other players, so unless we get him for 5 (6 max) then I say no thanks. Let him play 2/3 of a season and cry elsewhere.

Good point about his euro performance raising his stock. The only player I see him taking time from that actually needs it at SF if Hword, and MAYBE Jevans. I would honestly love to see AK back on a cheap conract coming off the bench at the 3.

And while I want (and expect) all our young talent to get as much playing time as possible, I also want them to get used to winning. I want them to feel like they have come to a team that is expected to win, and that is what is expected of them. Not that they came to a team that is rebuilding and nobody expect W's (not saying that's not the case). That's why i feel it is important to keep a couple of our vets who have what it takes Ie Milsap, AK, Watson, AJ.

All good players will be concerned with one of two things. Money, or Championships. It's either give him a 7-10 contract(which would be competitive, I would imagine), or get him in the hunt for a ring at cheap. Where do you think we stand in that?

I want him back. I'll say it, and I won't apologize for it. We ARE a better team with him than without him. But we may be paddling up stream.

Even at this stage he is not a MLE player as LogGrad98 already pointed out. He is also one of the last guys I want our rookies to look up to--peak after 5-years once you land a max-contract and become only a ghost of his potential. I hope we never go through that again.

I enjoy and appreciate that AK as a very unique skillset, and its rare for guys to be content in Utah. He is very exciting and extremely valuable at times, but in between those performances is what puts a bad taste in your mouth. Not expecting to see him in a Jazz uni this year.

I was an AK fan for years. I don't want him back. I don't think he helps enough and is not the future of this team. Losing this season is not the worst thing that can happen to this franchise. We need to discover what we have in the young guys and develop them. I don't expect to make the playoffs this year and I don't think AK makes enough of a diffence to push us over that hill. If Millsap and Bell are traded for a PG then I may change my mind. As long as he is not signed for more than 2 seasons. Anything more than 2 seasons at any contract amount and I don't want him back. If he gets 4 years for more than 6 Millions per then I'll be extremely annoyed.

Agreed.

We need to move on from AK. Yeah he is a consistent player but, injury prone and costs to much. If you want a playoff team yeah keep him although, if you want to be a contending team move on use the money somewhere else.

He will never be the AK of old we always hope for every year. Its time to move on like others have said.
