Trade deadline discussion

The Jazz traded fav-favorites like Alec Burks, Joe Johnson and Jae Crowder, and they walked away from Ricky Rubio. Surely, they can move on from Joe Ingles.

Thats not a good comparison, Joe has meant WAY more to this franchise than any of those guys you listed. I mean Crowder and Johnson were only here for like a year and a half and Rubio two years. Joes been here for his entire 8 year career and has been an enormous part of the culture and identity of this team, not to mention everything he's done off the court in the community.

Having said that, he's definitely not the same player he was. Age has obviously caught up with him and I will completely understand if the front office decides to move him.

Hopefully you're right that Ainge will be our salvation. We'll see how it goes.
I don’t know that it will be our salvation. It’s hard to say what’s out there that can be done that improves us, but I think seeing these past however many games is the equivalent of a patient going to a doctor with a fasting blood glucose >180 for 6 months and the doctor not starting metformin because the patient reassures them that they’re going to be disciplined with diet. Starting metformin isn’t going to address the underlying issue, but not starting metformin sure as hell isn’t doing them any favors.

I've liked Sato in the past, but I don't think he's any sort of answer to what ails the Jazz these days.
He’s having an awful year but I think it’s the culture there in N.O. and the lack of playing time. I watched him today in the first game on NBA channel and at least he can still move his feet and stay in front of his man. A 6’7” point guard with a good handle, great passing, good fg and ft % never goes out of style. Pass first made an exceptional pass to Jaxson Hayes inside that made Giannis go crazy and get a T. He’d set up Gobert like nobody else IMO.

Tonight’s loss was a good thing. Had we won it helps justify the “all is well” crowd. I’m sure Locke will say we simply missed and Iggy made two threes he should have missed and “nba maths says we won because shot quality per square foot was a 99% effective efficiency true point added box plus”

But the fact is they were missing their second best player and have another wild card to add… and they just have a ton more defensive force and versatility than us. It’s pretty clear they are better than us and it will take at least 1 key injury for us to beat them. So there isn’t anything really to risk by making a “risky” move. We aren’t there and if we want to be there will need to be some personnel changes.

When I’ve watched he’s looked pretty bad. If he gets bought out I’d go for him but not a guy I’m willing to bet on more than that.

GS traded Iggy… helped them snag Russell who they flipped into Wiggins and a pick… thx Minny.

My assumption is that Ainge, based on what he’s seen since being onboard, is probably feeling that it would be malpractice to keep status quo with our obvious defensive issues. We’ve got an expensive team that has a narrow window that took a lot of time to assemble. We’re essentially driving a Mercedes without insurance and many raising the question are told to shut up and enjoy the ride.

I enjoy the ride. That’s why it needs to be protected with insurance and I don’t want to see all that work go up in flames.
I think you mean a Mercedes on an expired warranty. We need an extended warranty! Our trannys about to lock up. Lotta miles on the engine!

Don't matter what car you drive. Driving with no insurance is ballsy, and reckless. If someone's driving around a Benz with no insurance, why the hell did they buy the thing in the first place?

Huh, didn't realize this before:

You know who else whiffed on Desmond Bane? Ainge and the Celtics.

I guess they decided that Aaron Nesmith and Payton Pritchard were enough in that draft and traded Bane to Memphis (in a Gobert/Mitchell-like draft-day trade).

Haven’t watched one game and I’m happy. We’ll predictably go out in the first or second round.

**** you, Otto Porter.

It would be hard to lose Joe Ingles for all he's meant to the franchise, but looking at the team, that's the player we've got to improve if possible. We need more from our seventh guy than he is giving us this year, and I don't think this is a slump. He's lost a step and is a defensive liability. Maybe he'll start shooting better but honestly I think that is also part of his decline. If we were getting anything out of him, we would have won the Golden State game. If you can package Ingles and a first, maybe throw in Butler if he has any value, and can get back a player for it you got to do it. It's the only trade that is really viable. they are definitely trying. I hope they pull it off because it might be the difference in whether we can make the finals or not.

That’s exactly what teams are saying about Ingles and his inflated contract these days and why we’ll have to gamble to get anything back. We trade an expiring for a lower expiring, it creates all kinds of opportunities as well.

If only one of Don or Clarkson was half the defender Conley is. It would alleviate a huge portion of Jazz's defensive woes.
Conley is awesome defending from the bench in the playoffs.

It would be a miracle if he's 100% and not hurt or "coming back" from not being 100%.

Payton Pritchard can play though. Would have a nice long career providing firepower off the bench. Both Hughes and Doke would be out of this league in a year.

I mean it's not like a 100% Conley has ever won anything in his career. He also struggles mightily against length and athleticism as we saw last night when he shot 4 of 13 despite taking the night off against Minny. Should I mention his G7 against Denver in 2020 or G6 against LAC when our season was on the line?

I don’t know what trade is out there that turns this team into a contender. I think we need to swap out 3 rotation pieces to be a contender. Not gonna happen, guys. This core is going to age out and the rebuild will be on.

2019 moves really put us in a tight corner. Even a Bobby Portis would have made our situation much better

This is something that wasn't really brought up when he officially became GM, he really hasn't had a good draft since 2019. It's not as big a concern for me short term since hopefully they'll be low picks still for a few years, he says hopefully.

Grant Williams is a fine pick... Providing some solid rotation minutes as a 22nd overall in the draft. Payton Pritchard also did pretty well. Way better than guys like Doke or Bradley for sure. He effed their lotto picks but both were 14th overall so it's not like they were DedEx type of mess.

Names that come to mind for me (bigger shakeups than a Watanabe type) - Kyle Anderson and Dorian Finney-Smith. Anderson would have to be basically a straight swap for Ingles, maybe minor value going 1 way or the other? Dorian Finney-Smith I think we could take into the Favors TPE and send a protected pick for.

I wouldn't mind something around a Barnes/Grant sort, but I don't really see a deal available that other teams wouldn't beat the offer on.
