Predict the Jazz starting lineup

as long as al and sap are on the team, they will be the starting 4 and 5, no doubt. which is unfortunate, because i would really like to see favors get 25+ mpg this year.

i think hayward gets the start over bell.

harris-hayward-cj*-sap-al

(*- i'm still holding out hope that they'll bring AK back, but if not, CJ it is.)

Assuming no AK, that's my prediction as well... although I would have listed CJ at SG and Hayward at SF. Not that that makes much difference.

It all depends on training camp, and whether they feel the need to play Favors right away or not.

Barring any Corbin-infatuation with Favors and feeling the need to throw him in the starting lineup from the get go, here's my prediction:

Harris
Miles
Hayward (presuming AK isn't re-signed)
Millsap
Jefferson

If they go big, then it will probably be:

Harris
Miles
Millsap
Favors
Jefferson

Miles will be given seniority, and I am quite sure they'll throw him in whatever starting lineup in the beginning of the season. As the season progress, if Millsap at SF proves effective and Hayward plays well, then Miles will probably be thrown into the 6-8th man position.

Unless Bell starts again.........

Corbin asked Millsap to work at being a 3 for a reason: so he can start Favors at 4.

Harris
Hayward
Millsap
Favors
Jefferson

Where did you hear this? Link?

I don't believe there was ever a report that Corbin flat out said this, but I do recall hearing that Ty asked Paul to slim down and work on his ball-handling, which would suggest he'd like to play him a lot more at the 3.

I think Ty will use Millsap the way he did at the end of last year spot starts against certain match ups, but in most games Millsap will start at pf and play some backup minutes at sf to give Favors more minutes in games where Millsap starts at pf.

As Locke has pointed out numerous times a Millsap/Jefferson is a terrible front court. It's horrible defensively. Corbin should be fired if there is a Millsap/Jefferson starting front court.

Harris/Watson (or new FA)
Hayward/Bell/Burks
Miles/Millsap/Hayward
Favors/Millsap/Kanter/Evans
Jefferson/Kanter/Okur

Locke is following the experts, and the experts aren't wrong that Sap/Al was a bad defensive front court last season. But I will reiterate what I've said before -- we were a bad defensive TEAM last year. One of the worst I saw. If there is one thing Jerry was not good at, it was implementing a system. He believed in fundamentals. If we play team defense the way teams like the Bulls and Celtics do, the problems of Al and Sap in the frontcourt will be minimized. Not erased, because they're not the ideal defenders at the 4 and 5, but they will look miraculously better if the whole team is buying in for 24 to a team concept.

Favors has too much defense and rebounding to not put in the starting lineup. He basically anchors the defense when he's in the game.
If AK doesn't come back, that pretty much gives the starting SF spot to Miles unless Millsap somehow beats him out at the start of the year.
Hayward was already starting ahead of Bell by the end of the year. No reason why that wouldn't continue.
