Trade deadline discussion

Acting like the Jazz could be fixed by drafting your favorite 2nd rounders is the most pie in the sky BS I've heard in a while.

Jared Butler would be looking like a damn steal if some scrub team picked him up in the 2nd round instead of us. The Jazz just arent playing rookies like that unless forced to. Stop pretending otherwise.

The Jazz have had one issue that: Spending (money or picks) too much on backup centers. That's literally it. Everything else is just nitpicking and being Captain Hindsight.

Conley's a great player and our best hope as is. If he can never stay healthy in the playoffs it is what it is. It's worth the risk. He's that good and you consistently **** on him and act like he's trash. Go back to making a billion post about how badly you want to trade Conley for Julius Randle and get off my nuts.
Conley is a great player and a great dude. I don't make any of this personal. I don't judge players personally.

We would have been better served re-signing Rubio for less than half of Conley's salary, kept Jae and kept our picks.

Or we should have ponied up what New Orleans wanted for Jrue Holiday.

Many of us were saying that then and are saying that now.

Uncle Jeff was a good signing... Quin gave him the Rudy Gay minutes but DL thought the negative valued Rayjon Tucker was better
He likely ended up with some of the Ed Davis stink on him. Ed was so bad that he murdered every lineup he was in.

Like I said before, Conley is good but not that good. kinda like the jazz themselves as a team... GTFO now... everything people said about Conley here, they are really talking about Chris Paul, who's basically transformed the suns since he got there. Conley isn't that for the jazz... like at all
Exactly. Jrue Holiday or Chris Paul would have been better fits.

Nobody can dispute that.

The Jazz could’ve ****ed this up worse than they did, but had they done the simple, easy moves that were there and done some of this stuff they’d be positioned so, so much better.

Just in the last two years the Jazz have traded a lightly-protected 1st far enough out that the Jazz could convey a lottery pick just to get off that horrific Favors signing. FIVE (!!!) 2nd rounders just to save money (and most of those contracts were avoidable). Drafting Doke.

Not to mention the 2nd Exum contract. Woof.

Just… if they had just not committed obvious blunders where would we be?

Not at all. Dude has ZERO interest playing in Snyder's system. It had nothing to do with Davis. He was just a terrible fit.
it has nothing to do with what Uncle Jeff wants. He's signed a deal here and logged 20min the night before he was waived by DL. It's not like Quin refused to play him or vice versa. It's DL who wanted Rayjon Tucker over him. Period.

Mike Conley is severely underrated by every moutbreather on this board.
Mike Conley is a great player and a good dude. That doesn't mean he was a great fit for what we needed.

Derrick Favors was a good player and a great dude, but he didn't fit what we needed.

yeah Ed Davis was a BS signing, but uncle jeff can still play
The Ed Davis signing was universally praised. Like insanely praised. Both on this board and in national media.

I was one of the few people here, or anywhere, saying it was a bad move in real time.

This is what makes this **** so funny. 90% of the board praised this move when it happened, but now y'all want to act like it was the dumbest signing of all time.

**** out of here.

I supported the direction this franchise had gone in up until late fall / early winter of Donovan’s rookie year when we knew what we had. It was then apparent that the window was opened and we needed to get aggressive. Most everyone was still in tank and asset acquisition mode because Rudy being out artificially depressed our record. Since then we have been too slow and half-assed to aggressively take advantage of the window. DL wanted to “keep dat powder dry” and waited until our option was a narrow focus on Conley. And now we’re wasting this window by not realizing it’s closing. It’s likely going to close not naturally, but with help. Our bad decisions and indecisions will lead to the same lackluster results that we will then conclude there’s not a pathway forward and make a “large pivot” that likely won’t be successful, and when we go through a serious lull that we were spared from after Hayward left, we’re going to look back at how far we’ve fallen and wonder how we ****ed this up so bad.

Mike Conley is a damn near perfect fit.

He's a good defender, he's a great PG and leader, he's AN ELITE SHOOTER, he doesnt hog the ball. I could go on and on.

He's a ****ing amazing fit for Mitchell and Gobert.

The only issue is playoff health, and that is just bad luck. If he's healthy for either years in the playoffs, the Jazz go to the Conference Finals in both years. He has been that elite in the playoffs.

I think about what happened there somewhat often and it never makes a lot of sense to me that he got cut. The only thing that actually makes sense is he was given a verbal promise to cut him if he requested it (since he could sign a minimum deal anywhere) and he just wanted out.

You’re going a little overboard but are mostly correct. If he wasn’t small and old he would be actually perfect.

Cy still talking about Conley like he's Chris Paul or Jrue Holiday. But he's really not.
Yes, he is on both their levels IMO.

Obviously CP3 is way more important to the Suns than Conley is to the Jazz given their roster, but Conley's positive effect on both ends is enormous.

It's hilarious how badly some people want to act like Conley is just some run of the mill starter who averages 15-5. He does so much for this team that can't be captured in regular stats.

He was an okay fit, but it didn't justify the price. Losing Jae hurt more than adding Conley helped.

He's not a good enough defender to slow down any of the great players that torch us.

He has not been elite in the playoffs. Without the Memphis series where he was good but not dominant, we have lost more games when he plays than when he sits. He's only put up one monster game in two postseasons.

Did you know that one of the 1st round picks that went for Conley could have gone to get Jerami Grant instead? And we could have still had Jae and another 1st rounder.

But he is small and he is old and he is injury prone. And we knew that going into the trade (and so did Memphis).
