Trade deadline discussion

I'm a big fan of Joe Harris. NOTE - he might need ankle surgery so no thanks...

"The Sixers and Nets have proceeded with other trade calls in recent days, sources say. The Nets, for their part, are looking to see if there is a market for injured guard Joe Harris, while the Sixers are looking for a way to move Tobias Harris -- potentially to clear cap space in the summer to sign Harden outright."

I mean, what does this mean?

Some are saying that's for Hart since he was sent out by New Orleans. That makes sense.

NOP are just the dumbest. They were in such a great position when they drafted Zion... Had so many assets and some good young players that fit with vets. This is why you don't swing from "asset accumulation-patience mode" to "win-now mode".

Sell of Holiday for picks, let Lonzo walk to sell off some picks to get Grahamn, sell some picks off to go from Adams to JV, cash in on Hart and picks to take on the bloated deal of CJ. This is simply a GM trying to save his job by winning 2-3 more games this year and hoping to do well in the play in. Weird ****.

I'm okay with this from Portland depending on what happens in the draft and FA. They have cleared the decks to maybe use some space. If they just end up overpaying Simons and retaining Nurkic it will look bad... unless they hit homeruns in the draft.

I think Dame would love a trade out, but with his contract, you can only do so much.

My bet is some of those outgoing NOP players don't stay with Blazers. I think more are on the move.

Hart very likely sticks in Portland... he's a great role player there. If they are stupid enough to want to collect more draft assets and get an expiring deal then maybe he is re-routed. Not that we would have what they are after.

I don't know. Part of it blows my mind and part of it makes sense.

Draft Zion - I personally would have traded the pick, but they had to take him
Trade Holiday - he wanted gone and their haul was decent
Letting Lonzo go - I don't understand it
Adams for Jonas - I love that deal if Zion was playing. Adams and Zion just got in each other's way
Graham deal - better get him than lost Lonzo for nothing

The CJ deal is bold, but when you have a bunch of picks and a few decent players (Ingram, Zion and Jonas), sometimes you gotta go for it. I'm not trying to start an argument, but many could say the same thing about McCollum as people said stuff about us getting Conley. I don't love this deal for New Orleans, but I think it makes them better for a little bit.

Worth noting that the Blazers now have 17 players under contract and both of their two-way contracts. Something has to give there.

They gave up a pick in the Graham deal too… they just gave up a valuable pick and a veteran role player for another two guard who is too small to guard 2s.

They are lucky they hit it out of the park with Jones. But imagine they kept Lonzo and the treasure trove of picks… I get why they traded Holiday. It’s just you can’t be impatient if you do that move.

Dame is a part of this… he is notorious when it comes to money… wants every damn penny… I’m cool with it. He wants to get his max extension because he can really only get that in Portland. They will give it to him. If the retooling fails he will ask out… but he’s sitting this year and being patient to get his money.

They should have kept Lonzo and the pick instead of getting Graham, but I just don't know how bad that whole Lonzo situation was.

As for McCollum, I don't know how to fully judge it yet. Ingram and Jonas are in their primes pretty much, and Zion's injury has crushed that team. McCollum will give Jonas and Ingram a ton more space to work with. More than Hart was providing.

If Zion comes back 100%, that team is going to be very hard to guard. The biggest issue with the Pelicans has been Zion not being what people thought he would be. Hard to blame the GM for that.

What? He’s been exactly what some people feared he could be: fat and perpetually hurt because of it (topped off with maybe some level of intent cuz he didn’t want to be in NO).

I would’ve traded down honestly. Easy to say that in hindsight but I’ve always thought Zion was a generational-level hype.

I agree 100%. I would have traded down for Morant.

Fat is potential in disguise... sometimes. If the kid was committed and self aware he could have been just a transcendent star. I was skeptical but you had to take him. They just have no team or organizational culture. They should have begged Ty Lue or someone like that to come in.
