What's new

Does anyone still like this team?

Does anyone think we can pull a heist like Indiana did and snag Scottie Barnes in a Gobert deal?

That’s not what he said but I’m not surprised that you’re twisting this to fit your narrative. The sad part is the thesis of your entire argument the past two years is mostly correct but the supporting paper of the thesis is just pure trash.

Donovan is not going to be here long-term. We all know that and I don’t think there is anyone who truly believes he will.

If the off-season comes and we trade Gobert and we are fighting for a play-in spot. There is a great possibility Donovan asks out.

If we get to the off-season and Donovan says it’s me or Rudy at that point you may as well trade both.

Best case scenario is we make a pivot and move Conley or Bogey and give it another shot with Mitchell and Gobert in my opinion. Next best is to go full OKC and trade both.

I do fully think a package we got for Donovan if constructed right would be enough to help us compete if we kept Gobert vs trading Gobert and keeping Donovan.

Basically what we shouldn’t do is trade Gobert and be a mediocre team in Donovan’s prime. Unless we somehow got $1.25 on the dollar for Gobert.
You’re right that I didn’t quote it word for word. Tim literally said “Donovan is not long for Utah”. He literally says it could be this summer. I didn’t twist anything so piss off. And yes, you’re right. What I’ve said was going to happen, is exactly what’s going to happen.

@oneye’s idea of dealing Donovan before it’s too late isn’t exactly bad. Shame is he has been such a ****ing ******* on this board instead of thoughtfully portraying his thoughts. He’s become full on obsessive but can’t really do victory laps because he’s been such an idiot on here.

Sad thing is that NYK doesnt have enough assets I want to raid.
I think the Dallas future picks are terrible but NY future picks could get real juicey.

If they jump up in the draft this year to the top 4 then they have one big asset. I assume they would want to keep RJ to pair RJ and Donovan. They could put together a 5-6 quarters equals a dollar type of trade if they don't move up. Not my first choice but say they send us:

Toppin, Grimes, Quickly, McBride their 2022 pick (after they have exercised it so we can get 23), 2023, the Dallas 2023 pick, 2025, 2027 and pick swaps in between... they have to all be unprotected since that is kind of a ****** package. If we can bet on the Knicks to be ****** that is a good bet. I think there should be way better packages though.

Maybe Detroit says they will send their top 4 pick this year, Grant (who goes to Portland for another lotto pick), and another future pick plus reclamation project Killian Hayes?

I think you can really extract a premium as there will be lots of buyers.

I think the best we can hope for with Gobert is probably one decent rookie contract prospect, some bad contracts (unless we are trading with a team who needs to swap their center out and he isnt bad/bad contract, and a first round that will project in the late lottery to mid first round.
We could also use the Dallas offer against a team like Memphis that would be directly competing with them... so maybe you can use their interest for a better package. Memphis could put a few picks, better salary, plus you could get like Melton, Clarke, who if you didn't want to keep them you could flip them. Giving guys like those two more playing time in a tanking situation could really increase their trade value too.

The thought of us somehow getting Paolo Banchero is making me feel fuzzy inside.

Banchero looks soft/disinterested in defense in what little I have watched. IDK... I like the top 4 guys this year... there are a couple other interesting dudes too.

“Donovan is not long for Utah” “If Rudy were traded, and that’s if, because he would prefer to stay there”. I mean idk Tim basically went all in on this interview that there’s a real possibility Donovan tries to force his way out THIS summer. Pretty dirty garbage considering the Jazz are hosting the All Star game next season. Donovan cares about one thing. Donovan. Rudy cares about winning, the Jazz organization, and this community. It’s unfortunate after the first couple years that Donovan’s Jazz career is going to end up in a dirty exit, and I’m going to be proven right. I would have rather been proven wrong, but it’s been pretty obvious how much Donovan has changed and what he’s not willing to say anymore. The **** part of this is we may end up having to trade a guy with actual and true commitment to this franchise in Rudy over the douche. Tim on trying to play-cate Donovan to make him happy “I think that’s a terrible approach, listen Donovan Mitchell is not staying in Utah”.
It's one thing to quote some insider who has an opinion on what the thinks he hears. Tim has opinions and it seemed to me that Lowe differed with him often.

It's another thing to take shots at Donovan based off your own feelings. Compartmentalize your personal hatred for Donovan so we can have a civil conversation.

If we aren’t trading Gobert then Banchero, Ivey , Griffin or Murray make the most sense. If we are then Chet becomes a top-2 or 3 option with a top-5 pick.

Spot on. Dude legit HATES Donovan and it’s hilarious because he used to love him. It’s like Eminem’s song Stan. Exactly like that.

Yep. Exactly. Donovan just hasn't gotten to oneye's fanmail yet and oneye is literally melting down because of it.

For me its Smith, Chet (who would terrify me), Ivey, Banchero...

Donovan is going to demand one of two things:

TRADE RUDY - I think this is what Donovan wants. Their relationship has been strained for some time now, and they have both tried to make it work. I think they annoy the ever living **** out of each other, and you can see that the team doesn't have fun. Ingles alluded to being peacemaker. I'm not going to blame either guy (Rudy or Don). Just separate them. Picking Don over Rudy is the simple decision for the long term health of the franchise. If Utah wants to trade Don at the deadline or even next summer, we still have that opportunity.

TRADE ME - I don't think Don will be here his entire career (not contract sorry), but I also don't think he will ask out this summer. If we refuse to trade Rudy, he might.

I'm not a big fan of all the speculation, I try not to get too ahead of things. That said, here would be my preferences for any Rudy/Donovan break up scenario:

1. Trade Donovan for a borderline all star + assets. I'm a fan of OG Anunoby or SGA. I would prefer to extend our competitive window and give Gobert some more chances here in Utah.
2. Trade them both. Make sure Gobert goes to a contender. Do good by Donovan as well. Get as many picks and young players as possible. Make sure to not be competitive. Get back to the thousands of pages draftee watch threads.
3. Trade Gobert and keep Donovan. This would be my worst case scenario.

So you think we should keep Donovan but also that he won't be here his entire contract? Trading Rudy means next year is a struggle/pivot year... maybe you make the 7/8 seed... maybe. Donovan only has 2 years left on his deal at that time and now all the noise about him wanting out gets LOUD... it won't be fun.

I think there are reasons to trade both guys. Rudy's contract gets scary if he has a serious injury... I just think the best path forward is to trade them both as wild as that would have seemed a year ago.

I think with the play in and the fact that so many teams refuse to bottom out it creates an opportunity to be more effective with our tank. Using our vet contracts to help teams trying to win will create even more assets... those assets and the draft are a bet/gamble... so you just tilt the odds in your favor as much as you can.

Oops. I mean career not contract. My bad. I'll fix that.
