Adrian Wojnarowki: Paul to Lakers for Gasol & Odom

Before acquiring Pau Gasol, the Lakers couldn't get out of the first round, and that was when Kobe could score 81 pts in a game and when Derrick Fisher could play, sort of. Bynum isn't a guy who can play a compressed 66-game schedule, and I'm not sure Kobe and Chris Paul can either. This makes for good television, but I wouldn't put the Lakers ahead of OKC right now.

If Howard moves to LA for a package based around Bynum, that's going to smell bad.

Oh lots of fans would be pissed (except Laker fans of course), and yeah they would need to get creative. But after the ******** they used to get Gasol I do not put it past them, or Stern, to figure out a way to make sure a Lakers Dynasty continues unbroken.

Every team might as well go into full rebuilding mode, including the Heat, if they get Howard. No one would have a chance for the next 5 years.
 
So it doesn't look like Chris Paul has agreed to extend with the Lakers, although it's quite possible that he would. The free agency rumor mill is likely to continue.
 
The unbelievable part in this whole deal is that the Lakers hung on to Bynum. Gasol is obviously more durable and the better player but he's 32 and has 3yrs/$57 million left - while Bynum is 24 and has 2 yrs/$31 million with the final year being a team-option and is the most talked about piece the Lakers could build a superstar trade around.

The Nets supposed best offer to Orlando is Brooke Lopez, 2 1st-round picks - their own and the Rockets' 2012 pick (top 14 protected in 2012-2016, by 2017 defaults to a 2nd round pick) as well as taking back Hedo's contract.
Can the Lakers offer more than Andrew Bynum and 2012/2014 late-1st rnd picks? They obviously need to throw 1 more substantial piece in there - that they don't have - so hopefully no other team deals them any kind of asset in a trade they can turnaround and repackage for Dwight.

Really? They might take a ship for one or two seasons but they wouldn't be 100 percent unstoppable. The offense can't be ran by Kobe and Chris at the same time
 
The Lakers have done it AGAIN. <puke>.
On the up side, I would be very surprised if the Magic trade Howard. In the past, he has had ZERO interest in leaving Orlando. He's a different cat from Shaq, who grew to dislike Orlando. Dwight loves it there.
The Magic will surely amnesty Arenas and are looking into a sign-and-trade for Jason Richardson, which will significantly cut their payroll, enabling them to add another piece. And they have over $8 mil in Trade Exceptions...
Lakers used Marc Gasol in the trade to get brother Pau, so they may have him already on the hook.
 
Honestly, I'm just glad I have a reason to renew my hatred for Chris Paul. After we traded Dwill my hate-o-meter went down a bit, but now that he is a Laker it's back at full tilt.

Where else would Paul go? Do the owners just want the Hornets to suffer while Paul plays the rest of the year and bolts for NYC? This is most likely the best deal possible.

The NBA is now pushing New Orleans GM Dell Demps to pull the plug on the trade and keep Chris Paul, league sources tell Y! Sports.
 
This sucks but we need to worry about us and move on from this constant inferiority complex we project. I do think they're going to get Howard but hell, Bryant's basically on his last legs so by the time our young guys develop and (hopefully) challenge teams like L.A., Kobe will be gone or close to it and we'll have to concern ourselves more with defending Paul and Howard. I worry more about the latter and we have a good start with our stable of big men.

My point. Let's think positive. Big men are hard to find and we have four good ones with very good ceilings. We also have an extremely promising wing in Burks (which is hard to find) and that steady glue guy type of player in Hayward. The Utah Jazz: The Future.

Good hell the Lakers are just going to get Howard now. That makes them way more dangerous than with Paul.
 
This is incredible. Right after the CBA was ratified, the NBA OWNED Hornets deal Chris Paul to the Lakers. I'm absolutely positive about 10 owners around the league went nuts, and the NBA front office called off the deal. Even though I think the Rockets were the team that got fleeced, I don't have a problem with it getting nixed. It didn't look good no matter what angle or approach you take when looking at that deal. All people see is one of the best 2 PG's in the league just went to the most popular team in the NBA, and the NBA literally owns the team that dealt the superstar. I'm shocked that they pulled it, there had to be some major backlash.
