Howard and DWill would be a devastating combo assuming the Nets roster is comprised similarly to the Magic in terms of floor-spacing.

The problem for the Nets at that point is that they're out of assets to build with and if they can't extend at least one of them then they are looking at a long, LONG rebuild. They had better hope it works well enough that the both of them stay and bring friends with them.

Do they even keep Humphries after that? How does he play with Howard and more importantly, how would Howard play with Humphries? Who else on that roster would even be worth a damn besides Morrow (who is not a marquee player by any means, of course)?

Risky, risky play by NJ. I still think Brook could be a monster with a good reason to be, and he kind of exploded when Deron arrived. From a purely basketball standpoint, I'd love to see Brook, Deron, and Dwight on the same team. Holy ****.
 
#1 This is amazingly great and wonderful news in that the Lakers won't be getting Howard - the thought of which scares the crap of me.
#2 Good for Deron, like him to see some success and playing with the most dominant big (at both ends of the court) is as good as it gets.

Agree w/Numberica about the potency of that combo, and I think they can have a great team. To go Hubie Brown 1st-person on you: First we know we're set at PG and C. For all his faults, Turkoglu will thrive in that weakside spotup role and we know he can make clutch shots. We also know Morrow is one of the best knockdown shooters in the game. Right there, that's 3 terrific spotup shooters surrounding the most dominant low-post presence in the game. Now, when you add in the playmaking ability of a Deron Williams, you're going to have to pick your poison when defending us in the halfcourt, and then we've got the athleticism in a Travis Outlaw and a Damion James to get out and run a little with Deron.

Howard and Hedo's contracts take NJ's cap to around the $68-$69 million range - giving them the ability to spend the full (or close to full) midlevel this year. If they amnesty Travis Outlaw - that frees up an aditional $7 million.
Obviously a huge void remains at PF - but if NJ can find a 4 with the midlevel (maybe Humphries or dare I say a stretch-4 in AK47 who decides to give Prokhorov a Russian discount?) and then fill out the rest of the bench w/some vets for the minimum (Shawne Williams, Brian Cardinal, Kurt Thomas, ect) they could be a tough out in the playoffs.

As far as 2012-13 - if the Nets somehow convince DWill and Dwight to both sign extensions (and they amnesty Outlaw) they will have so few salaries committed that they could conceivably have enough room to spend their full midlevel again next offseason, so that's DWill, Dwight, Morrow, Hedo, this year's full-midlevel and next year's. If one of their young guys like Marshon Brooks or Damion James pans out - that could be a nice supporting cast before you have to resort to minimum-salary players. Might not be enough to hang with Miami but it could be enough to get them to their doorstep.

It would be, except this is just an article saying he's going to ask to be traded to NJ, not that he's actually being traded. With the Paul trade going **** up, who knows what will happen. I'm not breathing easy just yet.

Agree, alot still to be worked out plus Otis Thorpe is also the type who could say "screw you" to Howard and not trade him to his #1 request. Don't think the league could step in on this one though as main reason for squashing the CP3 trade was playing the "conflict of interest" card because the league owns the Hornets. If they try that with NJ, Prokhorov might send the KGB after Stern.
 
Deron couldn't recruit a buddy to play with him in Utah, but he can convince them to go to New Joisey?

Lopez be a monster? As Dick would say, oof.

You're overthinking this way too much. If they can get Howard, they do it. He's a game-changer. Humphries would be a solid compliment to him imo in that he'd help absorb some of those bodies who try to swallow Howard. If they don't, Kris'll be there for the offensive rebound and the put back. They also already have Morrow who is a deadly outside shooter. Add in Marshawn Brooks who could flourish and fit in perfectly, and you have a potentially devastating starting five.

I'm pretty sure Brook would be going to Orlando in any deal involving Howard.

What a kick in the balls it would have been trading the (arguably) best PG in the league from a small market team to a big market team on the same day a CBA was signed which was supposed to bring more parity to the league. And to top it all off the small market team is currently being controlled by the NBA......PR Nightmare.

The Howard deal is different - The Nets have sucked forever. NJ is not considered a big market team. If a deal is there I think it definitely happens.

Right. I tried to imply that with "still". UNLESS Dwight just opts out and goes to NJ. Which if Howard were to end up there would be the less likely of the two, obviously.
 
Also, didn't think AK and Deron on the same team could make sense again, but in this scenario? **** me.
 
DWill/Morrow?/Turkoglu?/AK/Howard. That would be deadly. Really think AK would thrive on that team.

Sorry if it hurts your feelings but SLC is not a mecca for most NBA basketball stars. Besides the fact that it isn't NJ but it will be Brooklyn NY. Add on the fact that they are going to be playing in a state-of-art facility I can see why DH would jump at the chase. I don't know if your dislike for DW got in the way of being objective but most people wouldn't be too surprised to see the two hook up.

I think the DW hates AK threads might have made you feel that way. I never thought that was the case. You do not go on vacation with someone if you hate their guts. I just think it was AK lovers using DW as an excuse for AK's failures. I think AK would be a nice pickup for the Nets.
 
If the Magic do decide to trade Howard, that's about as good a deal as they can realistically get. They'd get a talented and still developing young C in Lopez, get multiple future #1's, and do a major repair job on their salary cap nightmare with a single deal. They might even decide to keep Turkoglu to pair with Jason Richardson as their main shooters.
If I'm the Jazz, I'd be after Humphries. He's a menace on the boards, which is something we need!! Maybe ship them Okur if Humphries will do a sign-and-trade with the Nets...

They are right across from NYC now and will be in Brooklyn after next season. Clearly a big market team.
As far as the Paul trade. One injury to Bynum would have resulted in the worst front court in the NBA. I think that trade is very fair. New Orleans was going to get four very solid players.
 
New Orleans woulda done OK, not great. Lakers would've gotten an all-star for 2 formerly-great but clearly declining big men. Houston was getting the shaft; how could they be so blind??
